Mission 261 Restaurant

Low key dim sum joint on Mission with fantastically fresh yum cha. Checklist ordering, complimentary tea and relatively decent service.

Mission 261 Restaurant

A traditional dim sum favorite with an exterior boasting a Spanish-style early California motif.

Best dim sum in LA – Took my parents here when they were visiting from out of town - very impressed. Top notch dim sum - freshly made when you order - not rolled out on carts. The standard Har Gow and Siu Mai are excellent. Prices are a little high - but you get what you pay for. The restaurant itself is pretty cool - an old mexican restaurant converted into a chinese dim sum place - interesting combination.

Rude attitudes – The hostess was extremely rude, even by Chinese restaurant standards.

I'm never eating here again.

Updated dim sum takes an elegant turn in a historic mission-style landmark. – In Short
Symbolic of L.A.'s endless cultural transmutations, this century-old Spanish mission-style former city hall has become a Chinese dim sum palace of the first order. The gorgeous architecture remains with white walls, tile floors, oak beams and a magical courtyard under a 100-year-old grapevine canopy. Three big rooms serve elegant meals, from dim sum to dinner. Forget about dragons, red lanterns and rolling carts--this is modern dim sum ordered from a picture menu, with offerings even seasoned experts will find intriguing. Deep fried "bees" are actually minced shrimp encasing a salt egg, artfully decorated. The fried taro dumplings are among the best in town. Chewy imperial tea dumplings are sheathed in fresh bamboo leaves, and delicate, steamed spinach and sea scallop morsels are pale as spring shoots. Shanghai rice dumplings trumpet richly with cured ham and vegetables, and steamed juicy pork bun is exactly that, bursting with flavor.
