My family of four went to Jim's last night for dinner. We were seated promptly, without reservations. Ice water and butter were immediately placed on the table. We waited approximately ten minutes for our menus. We didnâ??t receive the rolls to go with the butter until the salads and soup came out. I ordered the market price large lobster and the others ordered the steaks. The menu suggests not ordering the steak well done, so we asked the waitress to tell the chef only a little pink. My sonâ??s steak was taken back to the kitchen because it was bleeding when it arrived. When it returned it was pink throughout. My market price lobster priced at $80.00 was DRY. I would have needed a whole pound of butter to make it palatable. Desserts were on Jimâ??s and they were the best part of the meal. We would never go there again, our bill was over $200.00 and we all left dissatisfied and hungry!

I love this place! – Great place to take a date. they always cook my steak just the way I like it , the food is quality, and the atmosphere is very warm and ambient. Very classy place!

Their menu has a decent amount of variety. And it is open later than most restaurants! Almost nothing is open late in this town.

Methinks? – Methinks you watch The Office too much and don't get the joke. I travel extensively also. 3 out of 4 weeks a month in hotels and restaurants is not an exaggeration. Sadly, it's true that Jim's Steakhouse is on par with most steakhouses in it's price range, but that is a poor commentary on the other steakhouses as well. The last time I was at Jim's was with a client that wanted to try it despite my warnings. I had a medium well ribeye that was black on the outside and actually dripping red (not pink) on the inside. She had the hamburger horseshoe. The hamburger was so uncooked on the inside, the waitress insisted on taking it back. She must have mentioned it to the owner because he stopped by our table and commented that my client should have been more specific on how she wanted it cooked! We were seated in the bar area because we thought the piano bar might be enjoyable. The piano player was so offkey and loud we could not hear each other talk! The only people that write good reviews of this dump are regulars trying to kiss up to the owner so they can feel like they fit in at the bar. Don't waste your time at this mess.

Good as many – I get a kick out of seeing the self annointed restaurant experts write reviews. I travel as much as anyone, and have been to steakhouses nationwide, and Jim's is on par with any of them within its price range. I don't care if my water glass was filled every two minutes, or if I wasn't seated within 30 seconds, all I care about is the atmosphere and food, and Jim's is fine. Quit your whining people! We in Central Illinois are lucky to have a quality steakhouse like Jim's. Methinks the old, crotchety people need to go back to Old Country Buffet and quit writing reviews.

An interesting experience, but not necessarily a good experience – Jim's is the kind of place I normally like--this heavy dark steakhouse with a weird seventies steakhouse decor and a frou-frou menu (also apparently straight out of the seventies, from what I can tell.) But it's just too dark--it's hard to tell what anything is (or even how clean it might be, for that matter.) The food is really not very good. I've been there three times, and each time it's been a disappointment. The first time I had a salad with my meal; it was really more of a bowl of dressing with a few lettuce fragments. My chicken (I know--why did I have chicken at a steakhouse?) was dry and overcooked, and the potato side was bland and unattractive. The second time, I went there for lunch and had the steak tips--that was OK, but the steak pieces were gristly and fatty. (The gravy was really really good, though.) The third time, I had the salmon and green beans...the salmon was incredibly overcooked--it was very dry and tough. The green beans were really overcooked--barely recognizable. All this aside, the ambience at Jim's is still a neat experience--it just seems like the sort of place where important people make momentous decisions while smoking fine cigars and sipping an expensive brandy. I just wish the food was better. I've talked to people who've lived in Bloomington longer than I have and they all rave about how the food used to be....if the food were better, Jim's would be a pretty cool dining out experience.

I can't believe this place... – Very over priced, service is below average, steaks were tough .... not worth the money. I travel for a living has to one of the worst Steak houses I have ever ate at....

most recent not that great – I have been to Jim's a few times in the past and I have found on my last visit that the food wasnt what I expected. I have had no problems in the past but on my most recent visit i was with a party and the steak was tough (or grisselly). Ihad to cut my meat into baby prortions to enjoy it... if you can say enjoy. It is dark inside and slightly out dated but this resturant has been apart of the community for years. I hope everyone else's experience are positive after my recent visit

needs some updates – The last few visits the filet has not been the best, a little chewy. I feel they need to update the inside since it's a little dated.

Best restaurant in central Illinois – The founder Jim Comfort's philosophy was to give a man a good steak, a good martini and fresh oysters and he will return. His son Greg owns and operates Jim's in Bloomington. He follows his dad's principles and makes a home like atmosphere where customers feel like part of the family. Eddie the head cook is an outstanding chef. The waiters are attentive but not overly intrusive. We grew up here and get to Jim's two to three times a month. Our favorites are: Oysters on the half shell, Shrimp Dijon, New York Strip Steak (the J.C.), Filet, the big Lobster tail, the house salad. The soups are excellent and at noon they have Maidrite hamburgers.

When we have friends in town or when people ask for a dinner recommendation in the area we tell them to go to Jim's. We always eat in the piano bar where Chuck entertains, you can smoke and the drinks and food don't have far to travel.

Awful! – My $70 dollar lobster tail was like rubber and had to be cut with a steak knife. They served it to me with margarine instead of butter for dipping. Ultimately it was inedible. The steak was fine.
