Requires illegal/unenforcible contract – I need a new dentist and was about to Try Dr. Cirka - but have read all of these reviews AND the Ars Technica article about him requiring patients to sign away the right to comment on their experiences there.
The thing is, it;s not legal to do that nor is it enforceable.
don't go to dr. cirka! – So, I went to Dr. Cirka because I needed a new dentist after changing insurance plans. I filled out the usual forms...HIPPA, basic info, allergies, etc. Then came the form where I was supposed to sign away my right to ever write something like this. Of course I'd never signed one of these when going to other countless doctors and dentists. So, I asked the office manager if this was really necessary and she was incredibly surprised anyone would have an issue with this. She brought be back to the office, since other people were in the waiting room who must have signed this form. Anyway, I left, feeling really confused and annoyed...I'd taken off of work, wasted my time, and didn't get to see the dentist. I was made to feel like my refusal to sign this was unreasonable.
Then, tonight, I was reading the Huffington Post, and I read this an article about this same doctor, and another patient who had a similar experience (but is clearly a journalist and more informed than me when it comes to these legal issues.) I wish I could insert the link, but Yelp won't allow that. Just google "dr ken cirka ars technica" and you'll find the article.
Remember, each of the below positive reviews is unbalanced by the other side...because Dr. Cirka could sue them if they gave anything other than a raving review.
Dr. Cirka: get rid of this form before you get rid of all your patients.
BE WARNED: UNTRUSTWORTHY SALESMEN! USE SEVERE CAUTION – Checking out all the mixed reviews I took a chance and made an appointment, actually telling them that I had not been to the dentist in a couple of years just to see if they were really going to attempt to sell me something (when actually I have good upkeep with my teeth and my last dentist has never claimed any problems).
First off, when you come in you can tell there is something a little flaky about the staff’s personalities and that their ‘kindness’ is not really genuine. I go get my cleaning done and the hygienist mentioned that I haven’t been to the dentist in a few years and that she can tell because she feels I need a lot of periodontal maintenance, possibly a night guard. Dr. Cirka came in to repeat the message only to make me realize the reviewers were right, this place is shady. To make matters worse on my way out I overheard the front desk talking to another patient who asked where a former doctor and receptionist was- they replied “Oh, we make changes to our staff often” which goes to show if Dr. Cirka can’t even commit to his own staff, how trustworthy can this guy really be?
I was then sent to pay my bill to which they then made me discuss my “treatment plan to get me healthy” as well as the overwhelming amount. Not only was this itinerary of procedures total b.s. but also the phony and abrasive office manager made me feel really uncomfortable with her high-pressured sales tactics as well as her ill-fitted outfit that kept flashing her unappealing lady parts (barf)!
Overall you can tell that they only care about the money and will make bogus evaluations just to empty your wallets. If you really want to take a chance on this place (which I really don’t recommend) then do what I did, tell them that you haven’t maintained good upkeep and see what they say to you... with any place it's always good measure to get a second opinion before signing any agreements or putting any money down. But save yourself the awkwardness and go to a legitimate dentist who doesn’t ask for their money upfront.
Be careful, very Deceiving – I always dislike going to the dentist and after I went to Dr. Circa’s office, I hate it even more. My first visit was expensive. I’m a new patient and they didn’t offer me any discounts rate. I have to pay around $200 just to get my teeth check. I wish they could’ve told me the cost before doing anything to my teeth. I regretted going to this place, because now I have to live with what is left from the procedure I had done awhile back. At my first visit, I was very impress with the staff and the place. After seeing the hygienist, she said I have periodontal disease and will need scaling done to take care of it. The overall cost for that is $1500. I hesitate after she mentioned the cost because I don’t even know if my insurance will pay for it. They said that my insurance would probably pay 50% of the cost. Unfortunately, when I get the bills, my insurance only paid $125 out of the total cost because they never send a complete x-ray to my dental. This makes me very upset. Not just that, ever since I got the scaling done, my teeth become more sensitive to the hot and cold weather / food. They also created a small gap between my teeth and gum. The little gap wasn’t there before. I feel a lot of pain now. Overall, I not satisfied at all. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone. Yes, they are nice but they are deceiving in trying to get money from you. Instead of giving you time, they want to see you asap because they don’t want you to go elsewhere.
After I got the scaling done, they said I have to go see a periodontist to get another check-up on the gum disease. So I did what I was told. After seeing the periodontist, they found more issues with my teeth and gum. They said I will need to get the laser treatment and the cost for that is truly expensive. As much as I want to get my gum treated and to obtain a beautiful smile, I will have to wait until I have the money. What makes me extremely upset is that, I could’ve saved $1500 from the scaling. If I’m going to need to get the laser treatment, why then I need the scaling? See, Dr. Cirka and his staff didn’t give you that option. They said that scaling will take care of my periodontal disease but that is not what the periodontist said.
I can’t express how upset I am. I work hard for my money and here I am, paying for something that my money is not even worth paying for. I feel like I’m being scammed. Only if I wasn’t that easy to be manipulated, then I could’ve saved myself a grant. Only if I waited and see a periodontist first, then I don’t have to blame myself for not being careful enough. Dr. Circa and his staff don’t let you know more than what you should know. They didn’t let me know that after the scaling, I might have to get another treatment. They only tell you what they want you to hear and know.
I find it hard to find a dentist who is honest about the health of the patient. I don’t even know where should I go or whom should I trust, but definitely not Dr. Circa and his staff. They are nice people but the service is way too expensive. They speak the truth but they exaggerate your condition so that you can get whatever needs to be done. I was feeling pressure. Not to mention, the scaling hurt like crazy.
Be careful. Make sure you ask them a lot of questions before getting anything done. Do your research first before making your final decision. IF you don’t ask them, then you will never find out!

We do offer a special to all new patients which includes a free exam and free cavity-detecting x-rays. The only charge at your first visit is for your cleaning. I understand that you didn't receive much money from your insurance company, and our insurance coordinator can work with you to contact them and see what is needed to get you a reimbursement. Best Experience One Can Possibly Have at a Dentist's Office! – Poor dentists get such a bad reputation but I actually look forward to visiting Dr. Cirka and his staff (not so much the actual cleaning part but the socialization is wonderful :) I have nothing but good things to say about Dr. Cirka, his staff, and their office. Everyone is extremely knowledgeable, friendly, personable, and very patient. I completely trust Dr. Cirka and his staff's recommendations and they always try to work with my concerns as well as budget. They are very courteous and professional and treat everyone with such respect without the stuffy, harried appearance that is common at many medical and denistry offices. And, my oral health has never been better thanks to them. I absolutely, highly, without a doubt recommend Dr. Cirka's services.
always smiling – After moving back into the area a few years ago I needed to find a new dentist, which I was dreading because I loved my old dentist. Luckily I had nothing to fear because from the moment I stepped into the office of Dr. Ken Cirka I felt welcomed and at home. The reception staff is incredibly friendly, always greeting me by name when I enter, and my hygenist always has a smile on her face and addresses any of my questions or concerns without hesitation. Dr. Cirka takes time to make sure everything is A-OK and gives me his full attention. The entire staff is professional and highly trained and the office itself is very clean. I am extremely happy with my dental care and recommend the office to anyone looking for a new dental experience.
I Can Smile Again!!! – Thanks to Dr. Cirka and his wonderful staff I am smiling again for pictures. I chose his office based on the great reviews from other people and because of that, I knew it was the Dentist Office for me. Everyone in the office is very cheerful, kind, courteous and super friendly.
I found Dr. Cirka's office on the internet about two years ago. I had my initial consultation and I knew that I wanted my Lumineers done by them. The cost of the dental work was a little more than I expected so I needed to save a few more dollars. Two years later the cost of the Veneers had gone up; Felipe discussed it with Dr. Cirka and they worked the matter all out for me. The whole office was just as excited as I was to get my dental work done.
I would describe Dr. Cirka as a perfectionist because on the day that my veneers were to be completed, he decided to send them back to the company to be reworked because he did not the way one veneer was sitting inline. My mouth transformation was another two weeks out and Now have a beautiful smile and I am Loving it!!! Thanks Dr. Cirka and Staff :0)
First-rate dental care – I have been going to Ken and his team for my dental needs for a number of years and never cease to be impressed with the professionalism and high-quality care this group provides. From the moment I walk in the door until the moment I leave, I know that I am being cared for by well-trained, highly skilled individuals (with a special shout out to Kim for being a fantastic hygenist). The office is lovely and provides a warm and comfortable atmosphere. Pair that with a team that listens, understands and cares, and you have a winning combination in my book!
be careful – At first I was very impressed with the customer service. Everyone was very welcoming and friendly including the receptionist, hygienist, and doctor. I was surprised when they told me the bad shape my mouth was in and how much the cost to fix it would be. This came to me as a shock since I had a cleaning 9 months before and there were no signs of bad teeth or gums.
I got two more opinions from dentists to make sure this work was indeed necessary as it would be a large expense. Both of them said that this was work that should not be performed on me. I was shocked and when I tried to get a refund for the money for the procedure which had not been completed yet, I had a very hard time doing so. I got responses such as, "Do you not trust us?", "I can't do that", "What are your other options", etc. The way with which the financial director spoke with me was very manipulative and uncomfortable. They finally refunded my money, but I felt very conflicted. They seem so nice and helpful, yet they almost scammed (for lack of a better word) me which is unacceptable.
I learned a lesson, that when something expensive or a procedure that is potentially threatening is recommended by a doctor, it is ALWAYS best to get a second opinion.
You came to us because you went elsewhere and said you did not trust the doctor that you saw. You said that with frequent cleanings at the dentist that you saw for years, your gums were still bleeding. You asked for my opinion on this. Healthy gums do not bleed when brushed and should not spontaneously bleed. Bad gums cannot simply be polished clean. You even had your mom, a physician, call me to discuss what was needed. I sent you an email including a copy of your xrays showing the hard build up under your gums that was the source of the bleeding and infection. I even offered to refer you to a periodontist (gum specialist) of your choice to do the treatments there. I encourage you to seek out a more qualified dentist who can do proper scaling to get your gums healthy so you do not compromise the teeth which may lead to tooth loss. This is exactly what I wrote to you via the email that I sent. There are many great periodontists in Center City who can help you.-Dr. Cirka
had lumineers, cleaning, zoom – I didn't intend on writing any reviews, although Dr. Cirka's office is very deserving of a good one, but I came across this page googling to get his office address before my appointment yesterday - I forgot what floor they were on! I was shocked to see the bizarre negative review here from a guy who's never even been to this office. Made me want to stop what I was doing for 15 minutes and write about my experience.
I visited Dr. Ken's office in early December to inquire about veneers - I've had the desire and money to do it for a while, but put it off. I visited two offices prior to Dr. Ken's, and hands down liked his staff the best. A few people wrote here that they were "pushy" about getting work done, and I could not have had a less similar experience. Friendly, willing to answer any questions, and sincerely excited about what they do. I decided to go with this office for veneers after my first visit, left a check with the office manager (who insisted I didn't have to give one, but I wanted to commit) and came back the following day for a cleaning.
Keila was my dental assistant for veneer prep, zoom whitening and "installation" day, and pretty much the perfect mixture of what you want in a dental office. She was detail oriented and competent but also very relaxing and friendly. Having a little bit of trust and comfort during dental visits makes a huge difference in your experience. If they would let me give her 6 stars, I would.
So 3 visits later and I'm happy with my lumineers, and equally as satisfied with the way I was cared for, I wouldn't even think of going to another dentist for cleanings anymore. There is a few comments regarding lumineers as being "the right choice," but the truth is its a personal decision, lots of information is available on the web. But whats important for this review is that if you ARE looking to get them, or even an opinion on if it would work for you, Dr Ken is an excellent place to start.
I also read here that a few people said they felt pricing was high - its a rather subjective statement though. I would imagine quality professionals in any major city cost more on average than they do in the suburbs, but you get what you pay for. Also consider my first visit was free, including x-rays and the benefit of well qualified people assessing your oral health. Not that credentials mean "everything," but Dr. Ken got his DMD from the University of Pennsylvania . Perhaps I am a bit biased, but if you live in the area and know anyone who has studied in any Penn graduate or doctoral program, you've met some quality individuals for sure. Their medical programs are top ranked and more or less preeminent for attracting and producing the best, and I think Dr. Ken is a fine example of such.
