Busy Little Spot – I had met for a business dinner about amonth ago. This little spot was so packet that the people next to us sneazed so we had to say "Bless you". The sushi was good(too much sauces), they are on the pricier side for the portion, not much ambience ( much more like a casual Japanese diner) cute waitress but very slow and constantly forgetfulor clueless!
Overall, this place is great for a small bite and not for a business meeting. I would recommend this place for lunch spot. Great location!
Rolls are good, always busy – This is a great place to stop when you're en route somewhere. The tables are close together and it's always noisy and busy. The sushi rolls are very good, but it's not somewhere you would go for a quiet dinner. Things are pretty pricey, considering the fact that the atmosphere and decor aren't the best.
They Tried To Make Me Go To Yu & Mi and I said NOOO NOOO NOOO!!!! – Let me begin by saying that I am not hating on Yu and Mi one bit. This place is what it is, people enjoy it, so good for them. I'm just being 100% honest. I'm actually glad that it is around because all it makes all the good sushi places in town less crowded and hence easier to get a table.
To anyone who says this place has "The Best Sushi Ever," it is painfully evident that you don't know sushi from Starkist Canned Tuna. I mean...really. The fact that this place can take a lackluster spicy tuna roll, cover the top with some crunchy green paste, tack on a $15 pricetag and call it "Spicy Tuna #2" is just outrageous to me. Not just that, but if you have any allergies to dairy, I would steer clear. Pretty much every roll has is served swimming in a cream sauce of some sort and after awhile its just like, enough already with the damn sauces! In addition, if you ever sit at the bar don't miss the signs that are posted saying that they use imitation crab in all of their rolls. IMITATION CRAB? Are you joking? What is this, the sushi counter at Vons? Gimme a break. If you're looking for dishes swimming in creamy sauces to mask the poor quality of the actual fish, this is the perfect place to go. However, if you are looking for a genuine sushi experience with fish that is fresh, I would suggest going elsewhere.
Yum Rolls, bad hostessing services – The rolls are really fresh and tasty, and the prices are very reasonable for being right in the heart of Beverly Hills. It's true that you have to wait, but whoever suggested making a reservation is misinformed, because they NEVER. EVER. EVER. answer the phone. Try the blue crab and spicy lobster handrolls!
The BEST sushi anywhere!!! – By far... the best sushi anywhere!!! All those high priced spots on La Cienega and around LA are no comparison to the excellent quality and presentation that Yu & Mi Sushi have to offer. They have ORIGINAL rolls and ABSOLUTELY use NO MSG in the flavoring of their sauces used on their specialty rolls... I made sure to ask for my Mom when ordering since she is allergic to it. Chef Ted is a refreshing change from the normal Sushi chefs that wants you in and out of their restaurants within 15 minutes. His rolls, like the El Nino, MJ and Nicky are some of the best tasting roll you'll ever try! Their Stuffed Squid appetizer is truly unique and is a great start to any meal. The seared Toro or seared Albacore sushi will melt in your mouth... trust me! I recommend making a reservation and though you may have to wait a few extra minutes, the food is incredible and well worth the wait. By the way... did I mention all the celebs that frequent Yu & Mi.
Tasty sushi – This place has some of the most unique and tasty rolls. The lobster and Yu-N-Mi rolls are excellent. Sushi is also good, I tried foie gras sushi for the first time. Be sure to ask the waiter what's fresh. We had reservations so they seated us promptly. The only downfall is that that service was rushed. It's more of a quick lunch spot, not a place where you can linger with friends. Right after the waiter gave us the bill, we were informed we needed to leave b/c there was another party waiting for our table.
Delicious Sushi Rolls! – My co-workers and I just went for lunch by the recommendation of my boss. We ALL loved the different rolls, especially the Spicy Tuna Roll #2 (with wasabi chips to add crunch) and the Lobster Roll! It was quite crowded and loud, but we made reservations, so there was no wait. It's a fun place to go and you can easily walk over to Pink Berry or Sprinkles for dessert!
If they're so great, why do they need to use MSG!?!?!? – Yes, it's sad but true. I found this out after a great-tasting meal (I should have been suspicious given just HOW good it was!), and I was still awake at 4am with my heart racing. So I called them and was told that yes, in some dishes, this "great" sushi place does resort to MSG. So many people have adverse reactions to it--ranging from headaches, to sleeplessness, to stomach upset--that it's just egregious for a restaurant of any worth to rely on this flavor-enhancer, rather than just plain good cuisine, to create their reputation.
Without a doubt the best tasting sushi – Forget that you have to make a reservation or you're stuck waiting for god knows how long (and outside, might I add). And forget that once you are seated, it's less than a half a foot between you and the party next to you. And forget that they're not even open on Saturday's... Regardless, if you want the best tasting fish in LA, go to Yu n Mi!
It's a combination of fun rolls and top quality fish. Whether it's a roll, handroll, sashmi, or a fun salad...it tastes AMAZING! Fresh is the only word to describe it. And the waiters will let you know what fish is the highest quality that day.
I've been to Japan and the sushi at Yu n Mis is better. I live all the way in Marina del Rey and make the trip to Beverly Hills every week night to get my fix of sushi. The Yu n Mi II is my fav.
Cozy, fresh fish, great location – This sushi restaurant offers incredibly fresh food at moderate to expensive prices. The atmosphere is cozy and slightly loud. Great for lunch or dinner with a friend. I would avoid sitting by the door as it can be a bit too busy.
