A True Neighborhood Bar – I've been going to this bar off and on for a few years now and I still love it! Very mellow crowd...kinda hipster-but no attitude! True, getting a place to sit can be difficult at times however if a table is reserved they'll let you sit there until the people who've reserved it show up. I think its a cool place with an interesting hodgepodge of people, & good energy!
Ambience/Crowd/Music – Since I am from the Westside, I don't make it up to Hollywood much. I decided to check out the DIME last night and I had the best time! It is never hard to get into and the crowd is always fun. Get to the DIME. It is one my fave bars in L.A.!
More Like The Nickel – This place is about half as good as it used to be. The original review has this place categorized as unpretentious, and being from the nearby neighborhood, we all used to really love this place. Several months ago, things changed and this place became a pretentious nightmare. It's the perfect little hole-in-the-wall, but when some promoter walks in with the idea that it could be the "new spot," then all of a sudden, guys get turned away unless they each have 2-3 girls with them, and even then, may not get in. We used to love this place as a cool, laid-back place to just DRINK, but now it's chock-full of people with something to prove. Now it's just TYPICAL. Please, wannabes, go to Mood or Cabana Club or somewhere else to get noticed. Give us back the Dime. You'll get bored soon anyway.
Annex bar of Winston's – Just found this place after going to Winstons. Dark, NY vibe and it's a total LA mixed crowd, which is a great thing. Some skaters and some beautiful women. Staff was nice and the drinks are the right price. I'm going to be a regular.
small trendy bar with a crowd – The drink are moderately priced, but don't expect to sit if you don't have a reservation. There is always a line but it doesn't take long. The place is always crowded and all hollywood people. It is fun, but not with a large group.
Best Local Dive – The drinks are strong, the people are beautiful, and the music is awesome! This is where to go when you can't stand to swill another pretentious 12oz beer at the Snake Pit. The prices are reasonable for trendy hollywood. But it can be a bit of a sardine can on fri/sat.
Too loud, too crowded – A hip place filled with pretty people doesn't cut it for me when I can't hear a thing. Music is too loud to talk to anyone and you can't move around to save your life. As far as I'm concerned, this place has too many pretty people trying to get in for it to be considered a dive bar.
The review's already outdated... – Pretension reigns at this place-that-could-be-cool. There was a time (and still is the case on non-prime nights) where this place is cool, laid-back, and without attitude. Come Saturday, they play the usual games at the door, and management scurries normal patrons for their "industry" trash. Avoid, avoid, avoid on weekends, unless you get off seeing Lance Bass in a bedazzled denim vest.
Drop into the Dime – Cool crowd. Owner and staff have great attitudes and are very welcoming. Low-key, good-looking crowd. Always a great DJ spinning. Worth the parking hassle.
Perfect Place – Been hanging out here for a few weeks and I love this place. Sundays is a very fun 80s night but my favorite nights here are Wednesday and Saturday. The DJs on both nights are amazing...Saturday is straight hip hop and Wednesday is mostly hip hop with some other genres mixed in...had a blast there last night...
People are friendly and the crowd is cool and good looking...
