Good food, they could care less about your Satisfaction – Probably one of the worst dining experiences in my life! I have dined all over the world in top restaurants,

generally very good, but had a bad experience – I generally love Alta and have had many good experiences there, but my last experience was quite bad. My wife and I didn't have reservations so we ate at the bar which we've done many times in the past. While eating our food, which was very good, and working our way through the red wine list my wife ordered the next wine which was a Labrusca. It was served chilled and was sparkling. I called over the bartender and said that this was not what we were expecting since red wines are generally not served chilled and it wasn't on the list of "sparkling" wines. He said that's how Labruscas are served with a tone that implied that we were idiots. He impatiently asked me what I wanted him to do and when I told him I'd like to send it back and get a different wine he scoffed at the phrase "send it back" and pointed out that he would have to throw it out. He eventually did give us the next wine on the list but with considerable attitude. He then went over to another bartender and audibly made fun of us. Then later to the 3rd bartender, again, loud enough for us to hear him. I was especially bothered because 20 minutes earlier we had heard him warn a woman off a white wine because he said it was heavily oxidized and she may not like it. He gave her a taste and she didn't and chose a different wine. So he clearly knows a bartender should say something if the wine is outside the norm, but chose not to do it for us.

After we finished eating I went to tell the manager what happened and she was apologetic. Rather than ask me which bartender it was she asked me if it was a specific one which leads me to believe this wasn't the first time something like this has happened with him. She asked me if she could do anything, and I just said no because at that point we just wanted to leave. She said she would talk to the bartender about it. We haven't been back since so I don't know if that bartender is still there.

We'll go back eventually.

The best food in the city – I don't even know where to start... everything at Alta is wonderful! I don't even like brussel sprouts and tried them - they are amazing! The white wine sangria is out of this world! The beef short ribs are amazing, and so is their special dessert. They will do their best to get you in, but its best to make reservations or get there early... Since I first tried it I have been back weekly / monthly... It's a must eat!

Great Place. Minute portions – It's a great place to have drinks and nibble on great food, but if you just go for dinner you may leave hungry. The menu is very well priced. There were two of us. We had 7 plates, 1 dessert and two bottles of sparkling water. The bill came to $102. The same amount of money spent at another restaurant would have left us more satisfied. What put the final nail on the coffin for this place for me is that they only take American Express. Great place, just don't go hungry.

Not so Alta (high in spanish) – They should rename it to "Bajo" (low in spanish)

I took a date over there and it was one of my worst dates ever. and I have been around the block once or twice.

first, you cant carry a decent conversation, the place is crowded and the acoustics are terrible, if you are ok with screaming over your food - go for it, thats your problem, if you look for an intimate conversation, decent space between tables, some kind of magic while you eat with your partner then avoid at all cost. the food was ok, I wasnt blown away but again, I could not really enjoy it in that setting. it was very hot over there and took a while untill the AC was turned on- I am speaking about august in new york city. seriously, I am pretty open minded person and easy to satisfy and not a new comer to the city - do yourself a favor and stay away, unless you like the vulgar scene.

Wonderful West Village experience – I love going here. Taking out of town friends through the kitchen to the dining room that faces 10th Street is always fun. Hanging and having nibbles at the bar is a perfect mid-week hang, too. And in winter, you can't beat fireplace-side seating.

Beautiful place, amazing food – This place is gorgeous - it makes you feel like you've stepped out of NYC and into a beautiful home somewhere in Spain. The food is amazing and the menu offers almost anything you can think of!

Comfortable but unfriendly – The food is good but it is served way too fast. I felt like I was in a competitive eating contest. For the price, I wish the waitress had advised us on this because it's a lot of money to feel rushed through a meal. If you go, order in stages.

The waitresses were pleasant but seemed disinterested in us, even though it was a Monday and the restaurant wasn't crowded.

But it is a beautiful room and good for a group.

Incredibly Rude Bartender. – About a month ago I went down to Alta on a Tuesday night and the bartender was so snotty to us. He treated us like idiots when we asked too many questions and rolled his eyes a few times. Worse yet there was another bartender, a young nice kid and the nasty one treated him like dirt... even said "get outta my way" when walking by him. When the young guy stood up for himself the nasty one started demeaning him. I felt bad for him. I didn't think too much of it after but then we came back again last Tuesday to find the same nasty bartender being even nastier to us. He took forever to get to us and the bar wasn't too packed. When he finally came over he just seemed like he had somewhere else to be. At the end he just slapped the bill down in front of us and walked away.....the food is great but steer clear of the short bald bartender !!!

Just Brilliant!!! – Best tapas restaurant in the city.... the food is actually what you find in the streets of Spain.

The restaurant ambiance is nice and romantic, perfect if you want to impress that special one.

Excellent wine selections !!!

Just go there close your eyes and let your finger pick for you, you cant go wrong the food is just delicious!!!
