Avoid this club at all cost! Hostile staff! – A group of us went out on Saturday night. We were on line at about midnight. We stood in line for 30 - 45 minutes, it was 20 degrees. Our ids were checked about three times. We were given tickets by the second bouncer who checked our ids, which stated "Complimentary Admission", so we're thinking this night won't be so bad after all. Once we were pat down (which honestly felt as if the female bouncer was caressing and not patting, more than one girl in the group spoke to this), we get to the register. Here we were told that the "Complimentary Admission" was not valid and that they used the color on the ticket stub to determine how much to charge you. Women were $20 and guys were $30. Women had a mandatory coat check ($4) but not guys; I guess the $30 was enough.

Once inside the club was empty (~200). It did fill up by the end of the night. The dj was terrible. He couldn't read the crowd; he would start a song and then mix in another that was terrible. People started booing at one point. Kid Capri did show up and that made up for prior dj.

The facilities are HORRIBLE!! They decided to make the men's room a unisex bathroom. It was awful it smelled like hot urine, everything was wet and dirty. The locks on the doors didn't work. There was no tissue in the stalls. You had to ask the poor lady who worked at the sink, for toilet tissue and she gave you two squares of one ply paper. There was no hot water to wash your hands with and once again you had to ask the lady by the sink for paper towel to dry you hands.

The drinks were expensive and depending on which bartender determined how well it was made. The whole experience was awful, don?t go!

Worst club experience of our lives! – Okay so here is the deal. We came down to NYC for the weekend as a group (16 of us). Before coming we researched clubs and since Avalon was advertised as 18+ and the guestlist was advertised with free admission before midnight for guys and 1:00 am for girls if you were on the guest list we decided to go there. BAD IDEA! Upon arriving we found out that the club was actually 18+ for women and 21+ for guys. Not 18+ for all as was advertised and as it has been in previous years. In addition, the guys were all made to pay $20 to get in the club. No big deal but they had advertised FREE BEFORE MIDNIGHT. We didn't figure this out until we got into the club because they screwed up and let one of the guys in who was only 19. After negotiating with the bouncers, a cashier and a part-owner (all of whom were very rude and unhelpful) they actually THREW OUT the 19 y/o guy who they had mistakenly let in. At that point we gave up and left the club. This was all over the space of almost an hour of trying to find someone to talk to who would help us. They then refused to refund the $20 covers for the guys who did get in and it took another 15 minutes of negotiating to get back the $60 we had paid to get in. We never actually made it into the club itself. Awful experience and it really ruined our weekend in NYC.

Liers – I've bought tickets to spend the New Years eve at Avalon, because I found out that it would have the MTV champagne party hosting by MTV's VJ #1 Vanessa. Also there were proposals of New Years balll drop countdown watching and hot d'oeuvres by the famous Tao, but the only thing that I paid money for was the entrance to the club. It was an usual dance discoteque, no Vanessa, nothing except for the music. I was really dissapointed because paid 100 per one ticket, and it was so boring that I left early. I was more dissapointed because I was cheated by the club, so I do not understand why the advertisment and the real party were so different, it is just not fair t make money by cheating on people

Crapiest Club Experience in NYC... EVER! – Of the many years that I've spent going out in NYC... tonight's night at "Avalon" was probably the WORST experience that I have ever had. #1) They falsely advertised the special guest list price #2) They overcharged some of my friends #3) They have some of the worst drinks in town which were severely overpriced for such a cheesy establishment #4) The music sucked and the crowd was pretty lame. #5) The club staff were completely rude and trying desperately to do anything to earn a few measly bucks.

In other words, I would have rathered stuck pieces of wood under my nails and lit a few twenty dollar bills on fire instead of going out to this piece of sh** tonight. Avoid this club at ALL COSTS!

great venue – I went there once when the annual Black and Blue Ball (bdsm party) was hosted there. It was a great space with tons of rooms. It was easy to get disoriented when you're walking around which I liked. I don't know how it is on a regular night but it seems like the crowd might lean towards bridge and tunnel. I'd recommend going if a specific event you want to go to is using Avalon as their venue.

overhyped, bad music, later is better – I was expecting a lot more from all the hype surrounding this place. The music was horrible... DJ was repeating tracks. Drinks were ok. Definitely a go late venue.

it was okay... – I went to Avalon a couple of days ago with a couple of my girls. The lines werent too bad because the bouncers were letting ladies in before the guys. So even though we were all the way in the back of the line we got in before all of the guys. We got there pretty early and the club was already packed. The main room was playing techno which I thought was horrible but the vip room was playing hip hop and later in the night, the main room started playing hip hop and the vip room played techno. There were too many guys from LI or New Jersey (spiked up hair etc.) for my taste.

The dance floor was really crowded and this couple that was making-out kept bumping into me. There was a lot of the usual hooking up and grinding.

Good times ahead – The night my friend and I went to Avalon we were let in very quickly. Coat check was fast and friendly. When we arrived there the chapel was playing mixed music but the main room was playing trance/techno. I didn't understand why though. No one was even in the main room. It wasnt until 12:00 that the club started to fill up and the DJ started spining in the main room. Felt like I had to wait forever even though it was only half an hour. Drink were okay, not great but okay. Also thought that DJ was playing songs over and over again. If I was to come next time I'd go in after 12:00.

BLAH – Unimpressive. I expected much more from such a talked-about venue. Firstly, the DJ who was supposed to be spinning (and the sole reason I even went to Avalon) never showed. Bouncers were rude, drinks were expensive, and the club didn't fill up until 12am. Worst part of all tho, was the repeats in songs. I felt like I was listening to Z100 with how many times I heard Ciara's "Goodies" and Usher's "Caught Up." With all the great clubs in NYC, don't waste your time at Avalon.

Best Club in NYC – This is one of the hottest spots in NYC... it used to be the Limelight in the 80's and 90's and even with its new name is still the hottest spot to hear new and upcoming dance and electronica from all over the country and europe. CHECK it out! You'll be happy you did!
