TINGA TINGA CLOSED – JUST THIS PAST WEEKND I WENT TO NYC TO TINGA TINGA.. WEBSITE STILL UP.. PHONE RINGS... GET TO TINGA TINGAA... FIND OUT IT CLOSED DOWN... MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT TO ME N FRIENDS.
Terrible. Terrible song selection, organized poorly. When given the suggestion that they have more English songs, we were told "If you don't like it, go somewhere else." This was 5 minutes after we got there, and were expecting 20 other people, so obviously that was not going to work. The videos do not vary, they are just tourism videos for Asia. They did not want us there, and I am more than happy to accommodate that.
avoid the manager at all cost! – First of all, Yung the manager had an attitude when i was making the reservation. This place has nice decor in the rooms but they had a funky old smell and the bathrooms were DISGUSTING! Our room wasn't available until 10 minutes after our reserved time and we had to wait with all our bags of food and our guest in a tiny little room. I was told they closed at 3pm, Yung shut our party down at 2:30am. I was told they would provide plates, forks, cups etc. I had a party of 15 and Yung gave me 6 plates, i asked for more, he scoffed and told me they don't have any more. I had to leave the party & buy more plates!! When we were ready to settle our bill, i seemed to have miscounted and gave the exact amount. The manager looked at me and said, "what? no tip!?!?" I was appalled and was going to walk out but decided to give him a small tip for starting my party late, being rude, having 6 cheap paper plates for dinner & dessert with a party of 15, shutting our party down early and demanding a tip! The other staff was very nice. The manager just ruined it for us with his attitude. Not much of a English selection either.
Kara-okay – Went to tinga-tinga last night, had a good time, could have been better. Nice rooms, good sound system, BYO is always an inexpensive plus, friendly and professional service.
Song selection, not so good. Huge book of 30,000 songs, 28,000 are in korean, unlike anyone in our party. While we had a very nice time, it was not as fun as other karaoke experiences we've had with larger english song selections.
Fun place for BYOB karaoke. – The rooms are nice the low-cost "bottle service" makes for a boozy evening, but if you don't read korean your song choices are fairly limited.
30th Bday party – Just had my 30th bday party at Tinga Tinga. Everyone had an amazing time. The selection could be better but the service, the byo and the rooms definitely compensated for that. I believe that the staff are saints. They are so polite and helpful despite the crazy drunken chaos we left behind. Be ready to spend money though. We went over the time we thought we were going to actual spend there and the bill reflected that. But, I think it was well worth it. Plus, other Karaoke places in the city are much more expensive and don't offer BYO.
Great Karaoke Place – I came here for a birthday party a few days ago and it was great. I loved the room decorations and the lighting. The song selections could have been better. But overall it was a great place and I had fun. Everybody wanted to stay longer and we're strongly thinking of coming back again.
Hidden Gem! – What a departure from the "same old, same old" of city nightlife. This place is surreal...like I was tucked away in an uber-kitsch, sparkling little hideaway in Japan. My friends and I stumbled on this place and I hesitate to write about it bc we want it all to ourselves! BYO, decor, and good company make it a night to remember! Song selection is not the best we've seen, but it kept us busy for 5 hours, so good enough!!
sound quality was terrible – the place was very beautifully decorated and clean. but unfortunately, it doesnt make up the fact that they have an extremely poor karaoke system. the first thing we noticed were the dented mikes -- yes!! dented!! they were so horribly mis-shapen, it's difficult to understand why the management havent replaced them. but we overlooked it and tried singing our first song -- and got nothing but sharp, painful static!!! we tried lowering the volume, switching off the second mike, turning the lights on and off, standing at various locations in the room, but the sharp, screeching static lasted through the entire song. that's when we decided we had to leave. the sound system is horrible!! if you're a karaoke-nut like i am, you're more concerned about singing/music/sound than the look of the joint. also, $40 for 1 hour, for up to 4 people isnt exactly an easy-going price.
Be Wary of parties – I had my party here but BE WARY if someone simply comes into your room, you will be CHARGED for it... people came in to say hello, stayed for like 5 minutes and our bill was charged as if they were in the room for 3 hours! Therefore, our bill was $60! more than what it should have been.... BEWARE!
