Fabulous homemade baked goods! – I absolutely love Delish Gourmet Bakery & Cupcake Shop!
excellent truffles, but bad service – I read about this place in the monthly neighborhood newspaper, and decided to try it out. I didn't have an occasion where I needed a cake to be made, so I cannot help you there. I am really interested in culinary arts, especially baking, and wondered if this place would perhaps CONSIDER hiring me as an intern or something. I called them and asked, and the lady on the phone replied very exasperatedly saying they did not need any more workers and hung up before I could say anything else. I decided to give them another try (this time their food) and I went into the store. It is very, very small and the walls were covered with pictures of their past decorated cakes. Although I had already felt slighted towards this place, I could still admire the great artwork that went into their cake designs. I went up to the counter to buy some truffles (rather expensive, but totally worth it in my opinion) and they had over 10 different kinds. Not sure what to buy, I hesitated for a couple minutes. The lady helping me got frustrated with my lack of a decision, and just left me there to pick it out while she helped out customers that had come in after me. I bought my truffles and got out of there. Good thing the truffles were phenomenal or I would never set foot in that establishment again.
Pros: great truffles, and by the look of it, great cakes as well
Cons: bad service and attitude
Terrible Customer Service & Poor Ethics – Four weeks before my wedding reception I placed an order. I spoke with a staff person & the owner. I explained the wedding would be in Las Vegas and the reception would take place in Austin after our return. We discussed options and sketched a design for the bridal cake. I was prepared to pay up to 50% of the cake that day and was told "No, we have plenty of time." They wanted me to think about some options we discussed and come back after we returned from Las Vegas.
I returned to their bakery the day after arriving home from Vegas, only to be told by the owner that she would not be doing my cake because no deposit was paid. I offered to pay it the day I was originally in but was specifically told "No, we have plenty of time." The owner then gave me the true reason she did not want my business...she had a much larger order for that same day. (300 people)
Furthermore she explained if she had ever planned on baking my bridal cake, she would have baked it the weekend before. That seemed odd. I would certainly prefer a fresh cake. Today I read a review here about a woman receiving a half frozen cake.
I ended up ordering my bridal cake just one mile down 183 at Ann's Kitchen (on Spicewood Springs Road) and they did a phenominal job on my last minute (semi-panicked) order. My reception went off without another hitch, and my guests loved the Italian Creme cake I got from Ann's Kitchen.
The price I was quoted at Cakes Chocolates & More was $210. I ended up getting a fabulous cake from Ann's Kitchen for $95 and they catered to my last minute need. For much better service, for true service and to avoid the risk of having your order shelved because something bigger came alone, go to Ann's Kitchen.
OMG...This place reminds me of home... – I just moved from New York and I was having a very tough time trying to find the right Bakery. I tried so many other Bakery's but nothing measured up to what I was use to in New York. I thought I would give Cakes, Chocolates and more a shot and man I am so happy I did. I first called to place an order, but the lady who answered the phone recommended me coming in. I honestly thought that it was out of my way, but I just thought that it wouldn't hurt. When I walked in it smelt just like my old bakery. The pictures on the wall were phenomenal and unique. I talked to Irene and brought her an invitation that we had sent out. She came up with a concept that no other Bakery I had been to ever thought of. She designed this sketch for me in like 10 min. and I was really amazed. She even had samples of her cake out to taste. It was so rich and moist, my mouth is watering just thinking about it. When I picked up my cake this past weekend, I almost burst into tears. It was the most beautiful cake I had ever seen. I was so surprised that I didn't even want to cut the cake. I would highly recommend using Cakes, Chocolates and more to any one who has good taste.
Phenomenal Cakes!!!! – This cake shop is the BEST in Austin!!!! I have never tasted a cake this moist or scrumptuous ever! I was really pleased with the "designer purse" cake I got for my friend and so was she! Not to mention, the customer service I received was absolutely fabulous...unlike the previous reviews! Truth is you get what you give out! From now on, this is going to be the place where I buy ALL my cakes!!!
WORST Cake & Customer Service for $175.00!!! – If you're thinking about spending A LOT of money for a cake that tastes YUCKY with HORRIBLE customer service, then shop here. I should have picked up on the fast-talking owner who bragged about her designs and tooted her horn as if she was the best in Austin. No problems with that, but the end results should match that too! I was quoted $175 for a cake that I thought would make my son SO happy. Well, when I picked up the cake - it was partly frozen!!! I couldn't figure out how I was supposed to feed kids a rock piece of cake... Not to mention that glue on top of the cake called icing! That was the worst icing I ever tasted in my life. The cake was "supposedly" in the shape skateboard w/ tires on it. Funny that one of the guests made the comment when I served him a slice, "Oh, you must have given me the tire off of the cake?" I was thinking to myself, "No, all of the tires are still there!" He said, "She made that tire to taste just like rubber!" LOL!!!!! I couldn't believe that. I was sooooo embarrassed!!!! I thought about packing that junk up and taking it back down there to that ignorant-acting lady who had already ticked me off when I picked up that frozen cake! Sometimes you think when you're paying top dollars, you will get top dollar service and goods. Not at this hole!!! Stay AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Really bad customer service! Price is far higher than quoted on website! – My wife and I were planning on getting her father an interesting and unique cake for his birthday. We filled out the online request for information, and detailed what we wanted - a 3D Harley Davidson motorcycle, to serve about a dozen people. They replied the next day, and said that they couldn't complete this request, and we should go to the shop to "discuss options." So, we went to this bakery this morning and spoke to the woman (we think she's the owner). She said that there was no way that a motorcycle could possibly be scaled down to such a small cake, and suggested that it be at least 50 slices (and gestured about 3 feet long)...which is obviously too much cake for 12 people.
After declining the super-sized cake, she asked if my father-in-law had any hobbies - he does, I explained - motorcycles. To that, she said "maybe a saddlebag?" and pointed to a picture of such a cake on their wall (hardly the "unique" cake we wanted, if she's already made one like it!). We again said that we had our hearts set on a motorcycle, and she countered with another suggestion - a "Route 66" sign....which I guess you ~could~ ride a motorcycle along, but he lives in Texas, not California!
She then said she could make a Harley-Davidson logo, but replace their name with his "so as not to break copyright laws." This. she explained would serve twelve people, but she stressed several times that we would not just be paying for the cake - we would be paying for her time, which is not cheap. This 12-slice cake wouldn't cost the $4-7 per slice quoted on her website - her labor alone to airbrush it would cost $155...almost twice the price per slice that they advertise.
Throughout the whole "conversation," she seemed distracted, and kept glancing over our shoulders out the window, and stopped to help another customer who came in after us. REALLY BAD customer service! In the end we decided to try making it ourselves...we can make ten cakes for the inflated price she wanted.
