Alexander G. believes that communication is the most important part of your hair appointment.
Through a series of specific questions we begin to learn who you are. Active listening is key to understanding the concerns and desires of each individual. As the new look is discussed, a sense of ease and comfort is established for the client. Although method of haircut and technique of haircut are important, communication is critical.
The way you feel about your hair directly affects how you feel about yourself. At Alexander G. a confidence is attained through the transformation that occurs. Alexander G. creates a distinct look tailored for you.
An appointment at Alexander G. is the beginning of an ongoing commitment to gorgeous, healthy hair.
Mirror, mirror, on the wall... – My haircut with Amy about a week ago is so awesome. It looks cool and modern and has lots of movement. Can't help but stare at myself in the mirror ;)
Great experience, every time. – I have dishwater blonde hair that is wavy and easily gets frizzy. Since finding Jennifer almost three years ago (just after she started at Alexander G,) I have had the most manageable hair that I have ever had. My highlights and lowlights always look great and my cuts are always fantastic. Not only does my hair look great when I leave the salon, but her cuts are so dead-on that I can recreate the just-left-the-salon style in less than 15 minutes with my roundbrush and hairdryer. AND I can still leave my hair curly when I want to.
Thanks, Jenn, for giving me the best hair of my life and minimizing the time I have to spend in front of the mirror in the morning.
Over Rated!! I felt duped! Worst haircut I've ever had! – I chose this salon based on the reviews from this site and I was unfortunately disappointed. I paid top dollar ($85) for the experienced stylist who was "good with short hair." I even brought in clippings from a magazine of my desired haircut to better explain what I was looking for. She started off going at a good pace but I felt she rushed towards the end as her hour was up and another client was already waiting. The rushing at the end, resulted to an uneven haircut. I called to have it corrected and learned that the stylist was on vacation. Since I live and work outside of the city, I was unable to come back when she would return from her vacation. After much explaining and requesting, they were able to accommodate me with a correction appointment a few days later. To my surprise, the gal who was tasked to correct my hair was the gal who was answering phones the first time I was there. (I am assuming that a high end salon wouldn't have their top stylist answer phones.) I felt duped especially having paid for a top stylist! Bless her heart, she was very patient and meticulous, but just not a very good stylist (you just know when you get a good haircut vs. one that isn't). My hair still doesn't fall right and I even need pins to make it look ok for work. What can I do? I have short hair so I'll have to wait til it grows out... This is by far, the worst haircut I have had! Take-away: Over-rated!! At the end of the day, what matter isn't everyone else's reviews /experiences, but YOURS!
Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry you were dissatisfied with your haircut. We try to accommodate the specific requests of our clients. Alexander G. is committed to clear communication between client and stylist in order to prevent complications as expressed here.
I decided not to go based on my "experience" – I've been looking for a nice place to get my hair done. I've purposely looked for a highly rated salon in an effort to get a really nice look I could be proud of. I wanted someone to give me a really nice color - to even out the line around my head because I?m tired of keeping my highlights up. I wanted one color and a cut to clean me up. I called and introduced myself as a first time caller and if I can make an appointment with someone to work with me. Before I explained what I wanted, the receptionist went through a list of stylists, their names, their years of employment and "experience" at the shop, and prices per stylist. I was told that years of "experience" deemed the price of each person's styling services. While I appreciate paying for "experience", I failed to understand what it meant for me and what I needed. I had a specific need, and expected to call and be matched to the stylist most experienced to help me correct my problem. I was not given that opportunity. Instead, I was left to choose based on "experience" and being a first time caller, (and an online marketing executive), I was left to make a decision I was not able to make with confidence. I decided not make an appointment because the first point of contact didn't create an "experience" for me to feel comfortable and confident about spending a lot of money. I rated this below average due to poor customer service, which sadly many pay a premium for when patronizing this salon.
High standards are important to us at Alexander G. Our receptionists are trained to give specific pricing and years of experience each stylist has achieved. Our aim is to allow clients to choose a stylist without feeling pressured. Sometimes, clients will request a consultation with a stylist prior to making an appointment--especially if they have specific needs. I am sorry you were unable to make a decision with confidence. There is a risk one takes when choosing a new salon. Please give us a chance to demonstrate our care for hair.
won the award for a reason – I just moved to SF from LA. The past few times I went to my ex-hairdresser she did not listen and rushed me through the color leaving me dissatisfied twice in a row. Thank goodness I found Aimee at Alexander G in SF. I do not have the funds to pay top dollar so I chose the cheapest out of the four stylists (not that it was a cheap adventure - $190 for full highlights and cut). But I was so impressed. The salon is calm and tranquil and Aimee really took the time to listen to what I wanted out of my cut and color. I was so pleased with the result. I will continue to go to Aimee for life. But make sure to leave about three hours for the process - it is well worth it!
Jennifer is the best for short hair! – I went to see Jennifer back in April for my final haircut before I re-located to New York. My hair is very short and cropped and Jennifer always makes it look feminine, well textured, and fresh. She knows that since my hair grows quickly, the texture is thick, and that it's SHORT, it should only be cut with a razor. SHE IS AMAZING WITH HER RAZOR!! I promise you, every time she cut my hair I never left a haircut feeling anxious to "grow into the cut", hating how they styled it, wishing they took more or less off, OR WORST OF ALL, LOOKING LIKE A BOY! It's been almost 2 months since my fantastic last hair cut with Jennifer and I know I'll have to find someone else to cut my hair here in New York very soon. This new stylist will have a lot to live up to. I also want to add that this is also the first time that I'm enjoying the grow out of my hair. It doesn't look as if the cut is in an "awkward grow-out stage" AT ALL!! Aside from her great talent and skill, she has an extremely pleasant and down-to-earth disposition. If you have short hair or want to make the transition to very short hair and are nervous about who to turn to, I assure you that you can totally trust Jennifer AND that' you'll never go anywhere else! OH!! ALSO, I TOOK THE #2 MUNI TO THE SALON FROM DOWNTOWN AND RAN INTO A DELAY ALONG THE WAY AND ENDED UP ARRIVING ABOUT 30 MINUTES LATE!! SHE WAS SO UNDERSTANDING AND NEVER SEEMED AS IF SHE WAS RUSHING THROUGH ANYTHING!! SHE EVEN TOOK TIME OUT TO LOOK AT PICTURES WITH ME BEFORE WASHING MY HAIR TO MAKE SURE WE BOTH KNEW EXACTLY WHAT WE WANTED!! I DON'T THINK ANYONE COULD ASK FOR A BETTER STYLIST!
A place I call Home. – I saw Alex several times and then decided to try a different salon (even though I was happy with his work; I just have a hard time sticking to one thing). Let's just say, my adventures out there were far from good, some even disastrous. But now, in an awkward situation, with messed up hair, I couldn't possibly go back to the man I had cheated on!! Well, here I am 7 months later, back at Alexander G. and so grateful that Alex has welcomed me back with open arms. I'm reminded again why I came to this salon in the first place. Kind, understanding and unparalleled results. In my experience, I had met quite a few stylists that I know would surely give me the cold shoulder if they knew I had tried another salon. It's nice to know, Alexander G. is above and beyond that.
Surpassed my expectation – I recently went to Alexander G. on a recommendation from a friend. I saw Jennifer, senior stylist, for highlights and Alexander for the haircut. They were kind, attentive and the work was great--my hair looks fabulous. The synchronicity and atmosphere was an impressive experience. I completely recommend this salon to anyone.
Fantastic visit #2 – I've now been going to see Jennifer for a little over a year. I wrote about my first experience on this site earlier and how she fixed a disastrous color done at the number one rated salon in SF/Berkeley. My hair is an amazing color, she really worked with my skin and eye color. It is dramatic and arresting. I get stopped on the street constantly with women asking where I get it done. Jennifer can cut too, for the first time in about a hundred years, I didn't have to wait a week for it to look good and I didn't have to run home and re style my hair, before going out in public.
This may be my best experience in close to 25 years of high end salons in Los Angles, NYC and SF.
I have never written a review for a business before this experience , but just had to for Jennifer and Alex G salon.
The salon is always a pleasure to visit, it is not this freaked out over the top, noisy, chaotic, "scene". It is peaceful, sophisticated and I don't come out of there feeling like I have been at a too noisy, too coked up party. It is just right. I always feel like I was one of one or two clients the whole day. That is a singularly rare experience.
I had hoped for more – A positive experience, overall. I called for an appointment and was given one with Jennifer for the following day...well, then they called back and apparently Jennifer couldn't (didn't want to?) do it, so they placed me with Becca...on the same day I called! Pretty miraculous. The salon was very pleasant, clean and orderly. I was treated very cordially by the receptionist (who appears to also be a stylist, or at least an assistant). I was offered coffee or tea and settled for water, which was kept replenished throughout my stay.
Becca listened carefully and then provided a very good color job (highlights and lowlights) and a very professional cut.
My only objection may be my own fault. I was willing to pay what to me was a fairly exhorbitant price for what I hoped would be a new, more exciting look. I told Becca, "I want to put myself in your hands." My hair does now look very nice and healthy, and falls and moves better, although the style has no particular pizzazz, and the color, while very professional, is not particularly exciting...I sort of went from mousy blonde to nondescript brown. I wish I had known better what to ask for. I had hoped that in my "consultation" she might have shown some enthusiasm or insight other than a wish to eliminate the sharp contrast between the colors from my last color weave elsewhere. I am trying to talk myself into feeling better, but I am not excited when I see my new look in the mirror, and after paying for the services including the tip and purchasing the shampoo and conditioner, I was about $300 poorer...and Becca's not even one of the ones commanding the highest fees in this place.
