Lots of choices, but not much taste. – I was excited to try this vegan bakery in Fremont and decided to make a morning coffee food run out of it. There were lots of choices and I had a gift card so I got a little of everything. Unfortunately though things were not very good. Cookies were hard to swallow, muffin was dry. I have had much better vegan baked goods at other places and for less. I did enjoy the tabolli, but I think I wont be back. I was amazed how crowded it was though and had to ask someone if I could share a table so maybe its just me. I was pretty dissapointed after wanting to try it for so long. Maybe I just didn't know what to order.

I went vegan almost five years ago, and I frequented the vegan bakery in Denver, CO. Upon moving to Seattle, I was quite sad to leave my Watercourse Foods. But I have found another love in the center of the universe. I would be giving five stars, but sometimes the pastries can prove to be a bit dry. However, I am consistently impressed at what is to me made without dairy, wheat, and sugar. I'll be stopping by whenever I visit Fremont.

Specializing in the world of alternative indulgence, this cozy bakery and cafe has customers lining up for vegan, gluten-free line of maple-sweetened pastries, stevia-enhanced cookies, brown rice breads, and organic pies that dare to be called "healthful." Daily soups and salads are listed on the lunch board, and are the gluten-free bread and soy butter of this relaxed neighborhood spot.
amazing lunch and great gluten-free baked goods – I love baked goods (cakes, pies, you name it), but am allergic to wheat, so I was super stoked when I discovered Flying Apron in it's new Fremont location. I stopped in to grab a pie for Thanksgiving, and ended up staying for lunch. The staff were all kind and attentive, despite the holiday frenzy, and the food was fanstatic: the soup of the day (lentil, potatoe and rosemary) was hearty and delicious, and the salad (greens, kale, apples, red onions, red peppers, broccoli) was the freshest and crunchiest I've ever had - seriously! The pie (mixed berry) was amazing (it looked so good I had to steal a bite before turkey-day) with a short-bread like crust. I've tried baking with gluten and wheat free flours, and I usually fail miseraby, so Flying Apron gets a gold star in my book! I'm glad there is somewhere in Seattle I can go for a pie-fix without having to suffer for it later. A note to those of you who have never had gluten/wheat free foods - don't expect these to have the same texture and consistency as their wheaty/gluteny relatives, as it's almost impossible to re-create. What you can expect is the best of vegan/wheat-free/gluten-free baking in Seattle.
The Worst Bakery I've Ever Visited – I was recently visiting Fremont Street in Seattle for business and was excited to find a bakery in the neighborhood. The smells coming from inside were amazing which is what lured me in...
But, to my disappointment, the baked goods and the espresso were some of the worst I ever tasted. I ordered a triple espresso shot and a raspberry cornmeal muffin. The triple espresso shot was not only bitter, but was not even the amount of a single espresso shot. The cornmeal muffin was frozen...yes, FROZEN! A the nice guy I am, I simply asked them to heat it for me...and, I was returned a still frozen muffin. I repeated this exercise three times with no success. I left totally disappointed and with barely enough cash left to buy a triple espresso at Peets down the street.
Really really BAD and really really EXPENSIVE!
Once a cute little bakery tucked away - now just OK – UPDATE 2009: Ever heard the story of a small bakery that became really popular and then the quality suffered? Well, that's the story of this bakery. I no longer seek them out and don't think their stuff is that good anymore.
I like it even though it's not great – I've often visited the charming little window of this building after a meal in the University District. I delight in trying new things every time. The only problem is that almost nothing tastes any good to me. The rum balls are fantastic, but after that everything else tastes obviously like it's missing something, and at the very high prices they charge because of their totally natural mostly vegan and mostly wheat/gluten free stuff, that isn't a good thing. I suppose it's pretty awesome if you can't normally eat at a bakery because of some dieting condition, but for us in the majority it's a passing curiosity. The type of place one likes to support but would never serve for company.
