Really the best in Seattle – I recently started Pilates at Metropolitan and am very pleased with the results. I've done Pilates before and decided to give it another try. At Metropolitan, I have seen 2 different instructors so far and they were both top notch. They were great at explaining the fundamentals of the system to me and I feel my core is getting stronger every day. The studio atmosphere is super nice and the free parking is a plus.
No More Pigeon Toe! – I am very new to Pilates- I've only had a handful of sessions so far- but I'm totally hooked.
As a performer, the body awareness that I'm already experiencing is opening a whole new world to me. Metropolitan Pilates is helping me become more aware of how my body moves in space. All those ballet classes I've been too scared to go to because I'm a total klutz? Well, it might take more than a few sessions to overcome my klutziness, but the way the instructors have explained to me the ways in which I'm holding my body incorrectly is something they never explicitly told me in dance class, and I'm totally amped up to try dance again with a new understanding of how my body is supposed to be aligned.
The energy at Metropolitan Pilates and the individual attention you receive from the instructors is ah-mazing. They don't coddle you- they totally put you to work and push you to your limits- and that is definitely the style of instruction I need when I'm working out. That said, they're really good at making sure you're doing the exercises properly so that you 1) don't injure/overexert yourself and 2) don't counteract the effects of engaging yuor core by doing movements that bulk up the muscles instead of lengthening & strengthening them.
I've had a ton of injuries, mostly leg trauma, over the years, and it's very exciting to be working with different instructors to correct some of the weirdness, like in the way I carry myself and my gait (omg, I'm SO pigeon-toed), that resulted from those injuries.
Gah! I could go on forever about how excited I am to be starting my Pilates journey here! I wish I could come every day! I f-ing love this place!
Great Studio – First I want to point out that having to clean the equipment you work out on is not a weird concept. When you go to the gym you towel off what you just used, why would it be different here?
Anywho, I've been coming here for 4 years and have always had good intructors. I am currently seeing Chris who is warm, funny and makes me work my butt off. I am standing taller and I feel so much better since starting pilates.
I wouldn't go there again! – This is NOT my favorite pilates studio in Seattle. The trainers here are not the friendliest nor the most patient. The last instructor I had there was rude and seemed bothered when I didn't remember the routine. I would not recommend anyone to go here. There are far better pilate studios in Seattle with nicer staff and that cost less!
Gone downhill – I've been coming to Metropolitan Pilates off and on since early 2005. It's expensive, but when I started, the instructors took wonderful care of the clients - getting all necessary equipment, cleaning up, asking questions about the clients' needs, general state of health, etc. I felt I got what I was paying for. That has changed. I've gotten to know new instructors recently, and they were cold and disinterested, not starting on time, talking to other instructors, etc. The final straw was my last visit with a new instructor. She looked like she had rolled out of bed, asked NO questions about the state of my body and barked commands at me that made no sense. She told me to get up and get my own equipment, and made me clean all the equipment while she stood and watched. I couldn't believe it. I asked clarifying questions regarding the moves several times, but still couldn't really get what she wanted me to do. After telling her specifically that there was much I wasn't up to (having just had a baby), she still had me doing exercises I could not do, once nearly bringing me to tears. Multiple reminders later that I was in terrible shape (my whole reason for being there!), she finally got it, but still gave incomprehensible directions. It was a humiliating experience, and my last time at this studio. For these prices, I expect more.
