Not vegan friendly – Verde bills itself as modern and chic, but offers no vegan menu items. My wife and I were appalled when the waiter offered to bring us a plain salad as an entree after we pointed this out. A salad is not an entree for non-vegans so it should not be difficult to understand why vegans would expect more. I expect more from the restaurants I patronize. I would love to be able to eat at Verde as I live very close and the ambiance seems nice but offering a bowl of lettuce in lieu of providing vegan options doesn't show any deference to vegan patrons. If you want vegan, there are several restaurants in Durham that do respect you enough to provide you with menu items.

great food, excellent service – i visited verde for the first time about a month ago with a friend during lunch. the food was incredible and reasonably priced and the staff was friendly and well-trained. about a week ago i received a coupon in the mail (by one get one for entrees, 1/2 prices on certain wines) and on thursday night my wife and i went with friends to use to coupon. the atmosphere was totally different in a good way. first we got a round of drinks at the bar and enjoyed talking to the bartender. we then moved outside and enjoyed the beautiful night and the excellent food. i recommend verde to anyone that's looking for a nice night out.

Nice place – The food and ambience were terrific, but FYI in the future when you hire servers give them a menu knowledge test or quiz them on certain items. Our server was an airhead that didn't have answers for any of the questions we asked her. Other than that we will definitly return.

Yet another unique eatery by George! – I've been to Verde two or three times now, and it's really growing on me. The food is better than expected for the price, and the atmosphere is refreshingly different. Make no mistake...this is a new, trendy "hot spot." Verde serves up a great selection of sandwiches, making it a wonderful place for lunch, and the steak tips are fabulous, served over flavorful roasted red peppers and rice. The bar is particularly unique as well, with bright green acrylic chairs and under-counter lighting that shines right through the top! The service is top-notch, as expected from any one of George's fine establishments. I look forward to returning again soon. Verde is great for lunch, great for dinner, and great for drinks. And if you're there on the right night, you'll be totally blown away by the live entertainment!

"Light" is right – Very nice decor, friendly service, but food is secondary, both in flavor and serving size, to overall atmosphere.

Choose your time carefully.. – I absolutely loved the ambience of Verde when I first saw it - so reminescent of something I might see in Chelsea, but without the roaring attitude...

On steady/quieter evenings, it is THE bar to chat around - lurid green surroundings and good drinks abounded. I have since been disappointed with my excursions there, having to muscle past vacant-eyed Duke sorority girls screeching at each other, flanked by self-consciously rumpled boyfriends in Tivas. After receiving a caparainha in a plastic cup, I had to call it a night - if you can calculate when Duke exams are, by all means enjoy your time there - otherwise, plan on fleeing by 8.

Looking for a Nice New Spot? Try Verde – Looking to try a new place I sought out Verde on a whim with a friend last night and must say I was very impressed. Though somewhat tricky to find - it is in Erwin Square just past Ninth St. if you are coming from Duke campus - Verde offers a nice, low key, romantic dining experience in an attractive European-inspired cafe setting. We were seated promptly and started with a nice glass of Pinot Noir. The menu is on the lighter side (hot/cold sandwiches, salads, soups) and I went with the roasted turkey sandwich for $7. The host was very friendly and attentive and gave us a complimentary 2nd glass of wine, and the bill was under $30. I will go back to Verde and if you are looking to try a new place it is worth the trip.

Finally a great informal place – What I really like from Verde is that it's informal but its food is top quality. It is not the informality nor the food you'll find in a sports bar. It is the informality that comes when you want to relax and take a break with some friends. Its food has an european touch and I haven't seen in the menu anything over $11 or $12 (which is gooood). In this case, simplicity is the right formula

Sleek, modern cafe offers simple fare with a light touch. – The Scene
Verde's European cafe atmosphere is more hip than quaint. Vibrant greens ranging from Chartreuse to a verdigris finish on the walls are at once bold and serene. Marble-top tables and Scandinavian chairs provide comfortable seating. While the pulsing music and young staff would indicate a club scene, the clientele has gathered for a casual bite. An ample patio provides an alfresco alternative to the urban interior.

The Food
Selections come under the following headings: Light Fare, Salads, Sandwiches and Simple Fare. The sans serif font used for the menu is representative of the unadorned, basic cuisine. The eggplant and tomato confit is fresh with a light drizzle of olive oil. The roast beef is tender with fresh baked bread, but could use more arugula, horseradish cream and sweet onion confit. The tagliatelle with green veggies (spinach, zucchini and celery) in broth serves as a light bite.
