Great atmosphere, menu variety – This place has a great atmosphere, the interior decor is amazing, very romantic (dim lights, curtains hanging from the ceiling to separate tables, etc.). The food is also good and they have some unusual selections - like salmon tartare and calamari salad (both yummy). The sake martinis are also fabulous. My only complaint is that the service can be inattentive and a bit slow.
Tall Ceilings, Dim Lights, Romantic! – Zen Grill is a romantic restaurant tucked hidden in Westwood. We were pleasantly surprised by how quickly we were seated and how the service was polite and prompt. The food is average in the sea of "Asian Fusion" cuisines out there, but with reasonable prices, friendly service, and a dark, yet romantic setting, Zen Grill is the perfect place for a dinner date.
Very good – I went here w/a girlfriend. the waiter was so nice, did not hound us while we were chatting, let us be without ignoring us. We let him order for us and he give us reccomendations (which I never do). The sushi was great! The drinks were good/fun. The thai food was ok, but not bad. Overall the check was very resonable.
The decor is warm. The restaurant did not fill up on a Thurs night, odd since this was a good restaurant that I would go back to.
Sleek ambience and Asian fusion menu give Westwood a dose of Hollywood chic. – The Scene
This expansive two-story space is dressed up in designer Dodd Mitchell's dramatic black-and-red decor scheme. Bamboo and lacquered concrete walls with flowing ceiling-to-floor Japanese flags create an Asian vibe with a modern twist, complete with a pulsating electronic music soundtrack. Twenty-somethings and pre- and post-moviegoers of all ages make for eclectic clientele. Service is informed and unobtrusive.
A diverse Asian fusion menu runs the gamut, from vegetarian creations to standard Mongolian beef. Delicate and fragrant shrimp dumplings are a sublime starter, as is the fresh albacore sashimi with crisp garlic chips. Zen's signature tuna-rice tower, layered with avocado and wasabi, maintains well-balanced flavors, and Thai green curry with tofu or chicken is spicy, and complements Japanese eggplant, broccoli and tomato to perfection. Tender Korean-style short ribs served with tasty kimchee and a rich side dish of roasted garlic-spinach fried rice is also a winning entry.
Pricey Asian Food – Zen grill doesn't really offer the best tasty asian food in the LA area. i've had better chinese, jap, korean, and/or vietnamese food for a much cheaper price. one thing i do want to praise is their fried banana dessert. a definite must-try!!!
beautiful interior, fantastic food – This place is elegant and relaxed at the same time. Go there for the great food, or ask the sake experts to educate you on some fantastic exotic sakes in the sake lounge upstairs. This is an experience no one should miss. Big parties or romantic dinner for two. The white gauze panels hanging from the 40 foot ceilings to partition booths down stairs provide privacy and intimacy without shutting the restaurant out. The red carpet, black concrete walls and dark wood sculptured ceiling inspire Zen and elegance. The food is out of this world. What ever you try it will be the best youve ever had. The fried bananas are insane. Im not a banana fan, but this is now my favorite desert on the planet.
zenerific! – I hate to spread the word, but this place is fantastic. From the Asian inspired decor to the unique and flavorful dishes to the fully stocked Sake bar, this gem of Westwood is a diner's paradise. Once you eat here you will definitely want to go back either for an intimate date, or a friendly gathering! Start with the soft shelled crab tempura and a happy buddha cocktail or one of the many Sake varieties! Feel free to ask about the different Sakes, you might just get a history lesson about Sake in America.
