Ghastly – One of the worst breakfast experiences in Portland. We were one of two tables in the entire restaurant. The server got our orders wrong: brought the wrong food, missed food that was ordered, mischarged us for what we ordered. We ordered tepid hot cocoa's for small children and they came out scalding. The waffle was worse than from a box. I cannot believe the prices this place is charging considering the construction, terrible quality and service. BLEH!

Very Bad Breakfast Daily Grill Portland OR – We were in Portland on 03/07/09 and looked forward to a great meal at the Daily in Portland. We had the worst breakfast and service we've ever experienced at a Daily. My omelette was dry and brown and the potatoes were definitely scrapped from the bottom of the pan, with odd bits of debris. Service: had to get up and find jelly that we'd requested. A very disappointing experience and we won't be as confident in our decision to dine at a Daily in the future. We travel frequently and always look for a Daily in our travels.

Thanks for making my Christmas special!! – I love this restaurant. I came in on Christmas and thank goodness they were open cause nothing else was. My husband and I stopped in for both breakfast and dinner. (We were stuck in the hotel due to snow) Breakfast was awesome although very busy. The female server explained to us that they were one of the only restaurants open in the area and due to snow were under staffed. Unless you were someone of serious impatience, the wait for food was not long. I read the other reviews and it's upsetting. Barbie was the morning manager and she came to our table because a side of bacon was misplaced. She was so nice and took the side of bacon off our bill all together even though we told her not to. (The side showed up before she even left our table).

We returned for dinner with friends. The restaurant was even busier than at breakfast. They did happen to run out of quite a few items (thankfully non of which we wanted). We were served by Ileana in the dinning room. She was so funny. We did have a bit of a wait getting into the restaurant but it was worth it. A nice young lady served us in the lobby of the hotel, so we were able to enjoy drinks with friends in front of a fireplace! it really just set the night off.

I recommend the Daily Grill with high remarks. The food is amazing (especially the Pork chop! ) Thanks for making my Christmas.

Worst dining experience of my life! – We went here for breakfast on Christmas Day because almost everything else was closed and we were downtown. It was horrible. We stood there in the bar area for almost ten minutes while we waited for a hostess; the bartender and a server both ignored us until we asked for help, then told us to just keep waiting. We should have left, but eventually we were seated way back in the rear, away from everyone else except one elderly couple who were also ignored and neglected. It took half an hour for someone to even take our order; my husband had to go find a server, who offered no apology or explanation for our wait. At one point a busboy tried to take our order, and just made up a bogus answer to a question I had about the menu. We did get one cup of nasty burnt coffee while we waited.

Against our better judgement, we ordered from the overpriced menu (seriously, $13 for one burned sausage link and some dry eggs?) and waited another forty minutes for our food. When we finally found a manager to complain, she told us they were understaffed (obviously) but offered no sincere apology and insisted that she was usually complimented on her food and service. She offered us a $25 gift card, which we didn't take since we're not coming back, and comped our breakfast, so at least we didn't have to pay for it. We only saw the server for the fifteen seconds it took us to order; she never came back after that.

As we left, the hostess and bartender ignored us, and no one ever apologized for our miserable experience or the crummy food. They even had the cooks serving tables instead of cooking and it wasn't even that busy - I guess they were trying to save on staff payroll. Bad move. I could've made better food at home and eaten it faster, and without getting snide attitude and neglect on the side. We are never going back there!

huge portions, great flavors, excellent service – My wife and I recently celebrated a wedding anniversary at the Daily Grill. We'd never eaten in this venue before and I waffled over this restaurant versus Morton's. I'm thrilled that I chose the Daily Grill. I had the Blackberry pork chop and was simply blown away by the size of the meal, as well as the flavor!!! Did I mention the house salads? Damn, that's a meal in itself. For dessert we shared a slice of carrot cake (calorie ALERT) garnished with whipped cream (on the side).

Total bill: $87, including $13 tip. For that we got: 2 gigantic house salads, 2 glasses of wine, 2 entres, and 1 dessert. In fairness to readers of this review, I should mention that neither one of us ordered steak--that would have boosted the bill considerably.

We can't wait to take our friends to the Portland Daily Grill.

Great Food, Service, Prices – I don't understand the bad reviews for The Daily Grill and I am so glad I ignored them. We were looking for a place with ?classic American fare" to celebrate our anniversary and this place was spot on. We were greeted with a smile, seated promptly and all the staff that stopped by wished us a Happy Anniversary. The food was fantastic! Our meals were of the best quality, flavored just right and were hot from start to finish (not that we could finish everything with the portions as huge as they are). The wine list has a nice selection and the prices are reasonable. Our dinner for 2 was $140 with tip (2 martinis, appetizer, shared salad, a bottle of wine, 2 entrees and 2 desserts). I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a place with great food, service, and menu selection. Without a doubt, a wonderful date night restaurant that won't break the bank. You gotta try this place!!! We'll be back!!

great portions, friendly staff – I have been to several Daily Grill locations on the West coast, and it is safe to say that they never cease to amaze. This location more than lived up to the high Daily Grill standard, with exceptional, attentive (and in this case, even entertaining!) service, and outstanding, generously-sized portions. My wife and I love the Ahi appetizer and the Iceburg wedge salad, and the fresh seafood and steaks are perfection. Nightly specials are always worth checking out- last time we split an amazing (and amazingly HUGE) Lobster potpie that I swear I still have dreams about. The fruit cobbler of the day tastes just like Mom used to make, so we always save room for their homemade (and again, Huge!) desserts. The atmosphere is great as well, with comfy booths, a 40's-style feel, and Frank Sinantra playing in the background. I cannot say enough great things about the Daily Grill, and will continue to visit this small local gem on a weekly basis.

Excellent Steaks and Service – This red walled restaurant is classy with attentive staff. The food is always exceptional, very rarely do you go to a restaurant that can cook a steak perfectly everytime. Every steak I have ever ordered has been exceptional and right on temperature. I especially love the blackened ribeye and the filet with fried onions. The spinach artichoke dip is the best anywhere, stuffed with artichoke hearts. The servers have always been quick to refill empty glasses, and remove dirty dishes.

I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone who is looking for a great steak and great service.

Managment is the problem – I went to eat at this place and right when I walked in I saw a manager (I think her name was Barbie) yelling at the poor little host. I asked him what it was all about and he said he was new and sat someone at the wrong table. Later I saw the same sous chef working on the line minutes ago sitting up at the bar drinking Buweiser yelling "F*** Seattle, F*** Portland, F*** this and that" in an obnoxious and belligrerant manner. The food and price were mediocre, but thats not where the problem lies. If you notice all of the other negative reviiews - it looks like it relates back to managment. In conclusion - this establishment could reach further potential with much more professional managment staff - who knows what goes on in the back.

Hotel-style comfort food served in a slick downtown bistro. – In Short
An expansive room with crimson walls, deep leather booths and quaint artwork lend a nostalgic '40s brasserie feel to this Los Angeles-based Grill Concepts, Inc. venture. Traveling businessmen staying at the adjacent Westin hotel eat at the bar, while locals slip into the bright dining room. Starters and bar food are the way to go here--meaty Dungeness crab cakes; smoky, grilled artichoke halves; and buttery sashimi tuna with inventive fried spinach garnish are winners.
