!!!! POISONED !!!! – I have ordered from Chai many times always getting the same thing (mee krob rad na), and it was decent, nothing special, just one of those easy lazy meals to order-in that are filling, but I was satisfied. Last night I ordered it again, and a different person was at the phone than usual (a man who barely understood me/english) and I believe he is the reason why my order was placed wrong, as some other dish showed up to my place. Which is fine, mistakes happen, I simply called and said there was a mistake. They said they would cook my correct meal and send it and I needed to give back the other meal, so I did. When I got the meal I originally ordered I said thanks and sorry about that to the delivery guy, but he just turned around and walked away and said nothing. I presume because he had to come back out in the cold and give me another meal with no tip this time. Which I don't believe I should be expected to tip twice for the restaurants mistake. I had the food and only ate maybe 2/3 of it as it just didn't seem appetizing to me. Lo and behold, I have a restless sleep all night with sharp graduating pains in my stomach. This continues all throughout today until I feel so tired from no sleep last night that I take a 3 hour nap. When I wake I have diarrhea 3 times in one hour. I have been eating at home with my own cooking for a week and ran out of groceries hence why I ordered in. This is the only meal out of place that could have caused this, and the only meal I had within proximity of the sickness. I have not changed any other patterns in my life and I am a healthy person who rarely has these type of ailments. I find it funny that with my sickness since that food, I have not had any fever or other effects that generally come with food poisoning, which leads me to believe this could be the doing of an angry chef or delivery boy with their laxative stash. We all know that it's a gamble on whether or not public food is at its best quality and service. I guess I gambled wrong here and should have just asked for a refund and ordered from somewhere else to be safe. Do not trust just anyone, people do all kinds of weird things for odd reasons. I will never order from here again, and certainly will advise everyone I know to steer clear.

It's ok... – Maybe I was hungry... The portion of the serving is small, about 7 of us was dining there, after spending over $150 there, we still feel hungry. Their food is ok. Good atmosphere and design though! Maybe it's really for romantic nights out only...

Amazing vegetarian duck with chill and basil – Couple days ago, I went to Chai Restaurant which has a cute pond at front. The atmosphere is very cool. I had the vegetarian duck with chill and basil and my friend had pad see ew. Both were fantastic. The service was very nice. I would recommend you guys to go there. I would come back again !!

great food, beautiful ambiance, pressurizing service – Although this small restaurant has a beautiful, upscale atmosphere and delicious food, I found the service somewhat annoying. My waiter was pressurizing me too much to order a drink and then afterwards, to order dessert. I heard him pressurizing the table next to me to order an appetizer saying "this dish takes a long time, you should really order an appetizer", etc. This was somewhat off-putting, but the food was so good that it was worth it to go there anyway. They have some eclectic offerings that depart from the usual thai fare which make this place worth a try. Just don't get suckered into ordering something you don't want!

Go Over Your Bill Carefully !! They added a 18% tip for a party of 2 people !! – Food was OK... Staff was attentive... But, what ruined the evening was the bill... they added an 18% tip into the bill... as if it was a mandatory charge... i asked the manager about it, and she said that Chai adds 18% to the bill for "foreign" people because "foreign" people are not used to tipping well !! WHAT NERVE !! what's worse is that Chai did not do that to the pople next to us because they looked "local" - WHAT DISCRIMINATION !! On another note, I asked for Shrimp in my Tum Yum soup, and while they did give me what I asked for, they doubled the price of my dish without informing me of it in advance !! Go here at your own risk, and tell the immigrant manager and staff to learn better english !!

A Haven for Hostile Drunks – The of run of the mill American-Thai food is acceptable, but no big deal.

But here is the reason I WILL NEVER GO BACK:

I stopped in with a female friend on a relaxing sunny Sunday afternoon. All was well until a completely drunk idiot lurched up and planted himself at the counter. He was creepy and hostile, and immediately began harrassing anyone within earshot.

In any other restuarant or bar a slurring weaving drunk like this would've been refused service immediately, and sent on his way.

The staff at Chai, however, let him ruin everyone's day.

Refusing to stop bothering everyone, he continued forcing his company and slurry opinions on one and all, yammering about $80 bottles of wine, South Beach, how Americans s**k, waving around an expensive camera, and vaguely threatening anyone who wouldn't pay attention.

Sadly, this type of moneyed Eurotrash toad is becoming more and more common here.

Still, rather than refusing him service and kicking him out (or putting in a call to the local precinct), the visible staff of six allowed this solitary drunk to harass the handful of other patrons. At one point the staff sat around a corner (out of his view), eating and chatting among themselves, pretending he wasn't there. The rest of us had no such luxury.

I finally went over the the staff and told them to give me the check so we could cut our meal short and get the hell out of there. And that they might want to kick the drunk idiot out. Or if it was beyond the capabilities of the staff (which included three large men), they might want to call a cop before things escalated.

I will never set food in that place again. If Chai can't find staff smart enough to 86 a hostile drunk, then they shouldn't have a liquor license.

I can't believe I actually paid for that meal.

Avoid this place at all cost.

Small, romantic, intimate setting with delicious food – Chai is the place you end up in if Sea is swimming with people. Just west of Sea, on the same street, you'll find this cute corner restaurant with a pool of water filled with flowers and surrounded by cushions for guests waiting to be seated. The food is delicious, and the service is fast. One bathroom is all there is, but it's a pretty one! Two doors to the place make it chilly when the staff opens one for some air. Compared to Sea, this place is a lot more intimate and less cosmopolitan, but the food is just as amazing.

Excellent Thai – Although not as elaborate as Sea or as lively as Planet Thai, most certainly worth the trip to Williamsburg. The food is delicious and the service is very pleasant. Highly recommeded and would go back again for sure!

Little Thai heaven! – It is very small, quiet, and romantic. The food is just fantastic and the service is exceptional. Chai is hands down my favorite Thai place. I do not even know whether this food is authentic Thai or not, but it surely tastes amazing.

I always order appetizer: crab cakes or satay; soup: tom yum gun; entrée: duck with pineapple curry or fried fish with sweet and sour chilly sauce; desert: definitely fried ice cream with orange sauce and passion fruit green tea. I am very constant with my choices, but my bf always orders something new, and not even once he was disappointed. They also offer great variety of sakes, beers, and wine.

The price is very reasonable. For two people we always spend no more than $70 for a full course meal. However, be aware that they only accept cash and on weekend do not take reservations.
