Terrible terrible service, mediocre food – Today was the day I was finally able to get to Junebug Cafe for lunch, a trip that has been eagerly anticipated. I had been in once before for a bubble tea and, while the service had been a bit slow, I found the people behind the counter to be reasonably friendly and enjoyed my beverage. Today was a vastly different experience. The place was very quiet when we arrived. My boyfriend and I ordered two panni sandwiches and were told it would take 15 minutes (to be expected, I know pannis take a while). 35 minutes later the less-than-friendly girl behind the counter shoved our food across the counter toward us without a word. The sandwiches were small (for almost $8 a piece), and soggy. My veggie sandwich was missing 2 ingredients that were listed in its description. Overall very disappointing, will not return to this establishment.
The worst service ever... – "Not only was the sandwich good but also the customer service was extremely friendly. I felt like a part of a family when I walk into the cafe shop. I highly recommend checking it out because everyone was so friendly."
Whoever wrote this review above, obviously works there...
The food is great, and the place is really clean and cozy - but the short asian woman, who I assume is the owner or manager, is one of the most rude people I've ever run into, while ordering food. She acted as if I was keeping her from a personal phone call, and I realized that was true when she threw my change on the counter and continued with her phone call (that was not business related). I've also called many times to place a to-go order, and each time I've been greeted with "Hi - Junebug" and when I start to give my order, I am interrupted with something to the tune of "You know, there are a lot of other orders ahead of yours"...As if I was a moron to think she picked up the phone to take down my order. Maybe she was in the middle of another personal call.
Basically, don't go to Junebug thinking they will be polite and engaging, and treat you like you matter. Apparently they have other sources of income, and don't need your/our business.
Crappiest service I have ever had! – Is it that hard to smile? Seriously. I was treated as though I insulted her mother. I asked how much the egg sandwiches were and she said, "Look on the board." I told her the prices weren't on the board. Then the phone rang. She answered it and began having a conversation. When I tried to make my presence known, she put a finger up in my face. In my mind I entertained turning over all the tables and calling her every awful name in the book...even the c word. My stomach talked me out of it.
The food is great. The music and the owner need a make-over.
If you enjoy being treated like the unwanted step child of a 22 year-old and enjoy all the crappy music Boston radio has to offer, then this is the place for you! I won't be back.
Great Menu - lousy service... – I am a regular at Junebug Cafe and love coming here for coffee/tea/food/snacks - and I really want them to stay in the neighborhood - BUT...
They have wireless, so I do like to get some work done with my computer, but I get distracted by the music, which is usually a radio station (magic usually) too loud with commercials/music what about hooking up an I-pod - with some cool/quiet music - and NO commercials??
The staff do NOT smile, and again, I'm a regular... some basic manners, best practices - with "how can I help you?" "please" "your welcome" and "thank yous?" Just some real basics would make all the difference...
Also - totally understaffed - it would be great if you could have TWO folks up front at all times, one who takes orders, and one who does the prep-work - if not always, than at least at times when you KNOW it will be busy (ie: lunch time, right after work...) The wait is just too long.
Some smiles, quicker and warmer customer service would make Junebug the BEST spot in JP!!!
HORRIBLE service – I went with a friend, who despite the incredibly rude counter-girl, ordered coffee and some food. She enjoyed both, but the coffee was only filled less than 3/4 of the way, thanks to the less than apt server. After seeing how my friend was treated, I declined to spend my money there and will not be going back.
Just what I need – I sat on the computer for severals hours trying to find a nice coffeehouse where I can drink coffee and do my college homework. I wanted a place that was simple and easy to get to. I found June Bug. Great atmosphere, laidback and. Though there werent' many people there at the time, I found it to be comfronting there. The young lady working the coutner was friendly and very down to earth and was more than happy to hold up a conversation. The coffee was great and there was plenty of table space for me to spread my papers across. I had ordered a Roast Beef sandwhich that was excellent. Highly would suggest!!!
June Bug Cafe – Not only was the sandwich good but also the customer service was extremely friendly. I felt like a part of a family when I walk into the cafe shop. I highly recommend checking it out because everyone was so friendly.
Cheap, generous sandwiches and healthy teas draw students and bohemian regulars to this charming neighborhood coffeeshop and deli. – The Scene
June Bug Cafe could easily be Jamaica Plain's official hangout. The cafe, sandwiched between funky Bella Luna and Milky Way Lounge and Lanes, embodies the JP essence of casual and cool. The lofty space is tinged with cherry-red accents and industrial touches like chrome tables and exposed brick walls. Breakfast, lunch and dinner bring the expected swarm of students and healthy types, but there's always room to cozy up with a laptop and enjoy the café's wireless Internet connection.
June Bug's main strength is its exceptional selection of sandwich fixings; the number of possible combinations is mind-boggling. Heaping sandwiches make it difficult to save room for a revolving selection of pastries and cakes. Staple sandwiches include the cafe's namesake, a chicken salad creation with apples, sprouts and tomatoes on fresh-baked bread. For a coffee alternative, try the java-flavored tapioca Bubble Tea.
