Looks are deceiving. This place only looks fantastic. Great lighting, cool bar and wine storage.... but don't be deceived. I went here after work with a friend and we were so disappointed. It took 15 minutes to get our drinks and we sat at the bar! Waitress never came and asked us if we wanted another, we had to flag her down. It was very crowded and very loud. To top off the evening we had to send our bill back twice because they kept charging us for things we never ordered. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!!
One of our favorites. This place rocks. To the person who spent $120 on cheese and wine for 4, what on earth did you order? Granted, we generally go on Mondays for half-price bottles, but there are numerous wines under $30 (and therefor under $15 on Mondays, or Sundays in Woodinville) and the cheese is very reasonably priced, in our experience. The staff is knowledgeable but not snobby - they're happy to serve affordable wine and great food. The butter that comes with the fresh bread is delicious, and the bacon-wrapped scallops in a blackberry reduction are to die for, and you get 4 good-size scallops for $11. The baked brie is delicious and just right for 2, although it's RICH, so be warned. Our favorite dessert is the little ice cream cookie sandwiches, which are just the right size to finish off a meal.
Even if you're not a wine connoisseur, the cuisine is wonderful!. I absolutely love this place! This is my new favorite spot. For years, friends have been trying to get me to appreciate wine and it wasn't until my visit to the Purple Cafe where I actually learned to enjoy wine. The Fresh and Crisp wine combo of four was perfect for those who are not savvy wine drinkers. Notably, what I really enjoyed was the wonderful menu this restaurant has to offer. The vegetables were fresh and crisp, perfectly cooked and the pesto pasta dish I ordered was hands down, the comfort food I was looking for. You will walk out of this restaurant feeling extremely satisifed. Give it a try!
Great atmosphere. This restaurant is one of my faves in Seattle - it's got a great atmosphere that's casual but cool, a delicious menu, TONS of wines - it's just a cool vibe, perfect for dinner with friends, a business lunch, or even for a date vibe that's chill but on point - it's just a classy joint that isn't stuffy. I personally love the salads, esp the oriental one with mandarins, or the goat cheese roasted pepper salad! :)
More than 300 by-the-bottle selections at this friendly Kirkland wine bar and cafe..
In Short
Eastside oenophiles don't have to go far for their fix--this friendly cafe offers all a wine-lover could ask for. The long list has an amazing variety of glasses and bottles, separated into categories like red, white, under $30, hard to get and magnum size; there's a handy glossary in back for those who don't know a Riesling from a Rose. Food is upscale cafe fare, including sandwiches, pizzas, pasta and other entrees.
Great for wine tasting. Every month my sister and I have a tradition of coming here and ordering their cheese/wine flight. We pick three cheeses and they are brought out with three different wines to compliment. I have just turned 21 and its a great way to try new wines and relax with my sister in a comfortable laidback, slightly industrial place. The bread and crackers the cheeses come with are amazing and the ambiance is very serene.
Overpriced and BAD service!. Went here for drinks and apetizers before dinner ($120 for wine/cheese for 4!) The flight of wine 'special' was a ripoff, $30 for 4 samples of wines. 2 of them were terrible, the other 2 acceptable. We ordered a cheese platter as our friends said it would come with "all kinds of fruit and crackers". What we got was a piece of wood with 5 (yummy) cheeses about the size of a half dollar each, a glob of fig jelly, 1/3rd of a pear, and 4 large crackers for $17! We were with a group of about 12 so they added on an 18% gratutity which seems to have given them the right to give us the worst service ever! It took them 20 minutes to get us extra chairs and the place was not even packed! We had to beg our waitress to stay around to take our order!
Good food & service. The food was good and service was good (although our server was clueless about the wine list). Nothing spectacular -- We enjoyed the restaurant, but wouldn't rush back to it.
Relaxing atmosphere. We have had lunch at both the Kirkland and Woodinville restaurants, and dinner at the Kirkland Purple Cafe. Lunch was especially wonderful, with the wine/cheese pairings a real delight. Out of 4 servers we have had, only 1 was knowledgeable on wine. Food very good lunch and dinner. Only really downer was waiting for a table for dinner at the Kirkland restaurant, as it does not accept reservations for parties of less than 6.
Mixed feelings. The staff here has always been wine knowledgeable and helpful. The wines by the glass selections have been decreased and remainig selection choices have increased in price. Noisy. No soft good to dull the din. Food has gone from good to mediocre of late. Still worth a visit, but be cautious....
