Best Sushi Restaurant in Chi-town! – They have great tasting and creative maki rolls that I haven't seen in other sushi places. I love the strawberry, verve hamachi, pacific surf, and hawaiian rolls. This is one place to check out if you have never been. You are in for a treat! Also, great atomosphere and it is never too crowded.
decent sushi – My wife and I shared Edemame and four special makis. The edemame was very good. The portion was large, the pea pods were big, and had a generous amount of salt. It was probably the best edemame I have had, but we didn't come for the edemame. Had the Lion, Sundae, Red Samuri, and White Tiger maki. The fish on all of them were good, not fishy, but something about them lacked flavor. Sushi decent/good, but definitely not great. One good thing about the restaurant was the ambiance: stylish, comfortable, great for conversation, and good service.
Satisfying Japanese fare in a relaxed, stylish West Loop setting. – The Scene
Joining Randolph Street's hip raw-fish scene, Izumi boasts two roomy, open dining areas and a stripped-down, urban-chic look of exposed brick walls, lofty ceilings and a flowing wall of water. Neighborhood couples on dates nibble up front by the light of the sushi bar, while groups dine in the spacious back room. Service is friendly and careful, if not particularly polished.
The kitchen offers a full slate of standard sushi, from 20 different nigiri--including sweet suzuki (sea bass) and buttery toro (fatty tuna)--to an assortment of basic and deluxe rolls. Seared tuna tartarki is a stunning starter: thick slices of bright red fish grill-kissed with zingy lime-soy sauce. Entrees include fine tempura and teriyaki options, but most diners are here for the maki, from tasty basics like spicy tuna and crunchy spider roll to deluxe rolls like the lion, a combination of tuna, yellowtail, avocado, cilantro and jalapeno.
Cool sushi place – What a great sushi place I ever visited. I enjoyed
the sushi and all varieties of maki immensely. I had
Agedashi tofu, Tuna Tataki and Cyawan Mushi, Tokyo egg soup.. all were so yummy. Cool place, Fine food and reasonable price.
Absolutely will be there again."
