Free Burger With Your Beer! – This is a great little find north of 90th St. on the UES. Hidden behind lots of scaffolding is a fun Irish bar with a pool table, skee ball machine and lots of TVs to watch any games. It's also home to one of the best damn deals in the city: a FREE burger with a beer purchase during happy hour and all day Saturday and Sunday. And may I add that the burgers are awesome! I've tried their regular and turkey, and loved them both. And you get some great fry selections: steak, curly, waffle or sweet potato! I haven't had a bad fry there yet.
They also have great happy hours specials: From 4-7 pm on Monday - Wednesday and 10:30 am - 7 pm on Thursday and Friday you can get domestic bottles for $3, import bottles for $3.50, drafts for $4 and wine and well liquor for $4. The South Hampton Alt bier is $3 all day, every day, and happy hour continues on Thursdays from 7 pm - 4 am with half-priced Brooklyn draft beers.
If you're in the neighborhood I would suggest adding Merrion Square to your list of local pubs because you simply won't find a better deal around.
great burgers – I had a cheeseburger and fries (curly and waffle cut). They were fabulous. Introduce yourself to Carl!
Great Neighborhood Local – My husband and I have been going to this pub for the last two years now and love it. A refreshing break from the fratty dive bars all along 2nd ave, this is an oasis for the post-collegiate crowd looking for a place to drink without with the beirut debauchery going on a few blocks down. The Irish bar staff are great..really friendly and attentive. I don't drink Guiness but apparently Merrion's is pretty awesome. They've got great music, a pool table. The large space is really well done: classy and homey as well as clean. During the day and early evening its also nice to see families going in for a meal. Its a real neighborhood place. The only thing that could use improving is the food. Its okay but not amazing. Overall, a fantastic bar. When the 2nd Ave subway comes in, it will be THE local for sure.
One of the best pubs in town. Try the hamburger, watch the game and just relax baby – This was one of the best pubs new York has to offer (trust me I sampled a few). I was there twice once during a night out and then again during the day. There was great customer service on both nights. They even remembered my name when I came back 2 days later. Which I was very impressed by.
But you just have to Try the Hamburger - the best in New York by far and full service with a smile you cant go wrong in this pub. IT makes you feel like a part of the city even if your only there for a few days.
I loved the feel of the pub with real wood and the toilets were spotless as well (always a must).
When I go back next year I will pay them another visit (hopefully they still will remember my name) ha ha :)
great prices, friendly and great staff.. – Recently moved to the neighbourhood and visited tuesday for lunch. Their lunch specials and happy hour prices are amazing. Altough i never ate i had a few beers and talked to the two irish girls whom worked there. They were very quick to engage in conversation with me and i have to say i,ll definetly will be making this my new local hang out. Great local bar.
Maybe the food tastes better after a few drinks – It's surprising to see all the rave reviews here about this restaurant. Stopped in for lunch for the first time recently and had an experience of atrocious food (watery, bland burger, soggy, limp fries). The only other patrons in the place were a sparse bar clientele who looked like they might ask for spare change.
The saving grace of the meal though was a kindly waitress straight off the set of Touched by An Angel whose thoughtful service thankfully relieved the bleak "dive" atmosphere; after "dining" here, it's understandable as to why the place always seems to be half-empty.
Great Neighborhood Pub – This irish pub on the UES is currently one of my two favorites to go to in the City when I'm looking for a laid-back and fairly-social, atmoshpere. The crowd is usually good - Merrion Sq doesn't only cater to early 20s people like many of the bars in the area. The bartenders I've dealt with are good and I can't really give an opinion as to the food because I haven't eaten there yet. For what you get, the price of drinks is better than average. Other usual stuff there - jukebox, pool table, etc. . . .
Nice hangout – This little-known bar on 95th is a great place to hang out and not be bothered by a crowded bar. The staff is polite and will bring drinks/food quickly. This is what I think of when I think of great neighborhood bars.
Reminds Me Of Cheers Good Place to Drink Beers – I went there with my friends after work. We work at the hospital. We got there about 9:30 pm. They have $3 dollar Coors Lights. If you're going to drink you should eat right? My buddy ordered the potatoe skins. Thick bacon covered with lots of cheese. They are not cheap with the ingredients like other pubs.
I had 4 beers and a burger and french fries and it was less than 20 bucks. I'd say that's pretty good for the Upper East Side. But It's not about the money. it was a nice place.
Plus it was a nice crowd and clean. None of that bar smell if you know what I mean. It reminds me of a small scale Cheers. I could see myself hanging out with my dad there or one of my aunts when they visit from Ireland to watch a football game or have a few drinks.
The bartender was a cute girl. lol
Excellent - Respectable Irish Pub - Nice Prices; Clean, Well Lit – There are few places in NYC where you can have a meal and a beer for less than $10.00 like this here pub.
The place is clean and well lit. The bathrooms are clean. No-smoking is strictly enforced (unlike other pubs on 2nd ave)
Everything is new (tables, chairs, bar, pool table, juke box, etc) . 5 TV's for watching sports.
I found the staff to be friendly. The proprietor is often on the premises - he works hard to maintain a friendly atmosphere such as greeting you by your name with a handshake.
The food is good. I like the burgers. They have a $5.99 burger special ( burger, fries, soda) all day until the kitchen closes at 11:00 PM. The appetizers are also good. I like the chicken fingers and the wings (not greasy).
The drink prices are good. A selection of $3.00 bottled beers, $5.00 pints of Guinness, happy hour specials.
I love it there. Me and my friends usually either start the night there or finish off there before the sun comes up. It's a great place to meet a date for a drink.
