Great breakfast! – watching the Flag Day Parade had breakfast...awesome 'huevos rancheros'. Made the Parade!
Horrible – Do not eat here. They do not deserve your money. If there was a way to give it fewer stars I would
My mom and I arrived for a quick lunch at 1230. Place was relatively empty but it still took 15 minutes before anyone came to take our order. We told the waitress that we need to get going in forty minutes or so and were told, "no problem". We both ordered sandwiches.
With less than five minutes to spare and with no food in sight (and without the waitress approaching us in any way - no "sorry for the delay", no "it will be right out", nothing), I went to the front and spoke with the manager (owner?) who simply didn't care. We said we need our food to go now...she shrugged and did nothing. Stood at the register totalling a large party bill from the night before (I read the register upside down). Now a second manager comes over and says, it'll be right out. "Sorry."
Waited another fifteen minutes. No food. No apology. By this time all of the staff and managers are avoiding catching our eye. Finally, we just walked out.
This was pretty much the worst service I have ever had. I cannot emphasize enough that when a business cares this little about it's customers, that it's time for that business to close. They truly, truly sucked.
By the way, it is not like the food was great the last time we were there.
La Mesa rocks! – Since when is there such a great food scene in La Mesa? We stopped in to Gio after hearing Village Garden had closed, and were so pleasantly surprised with the food, service and the updated look of the space. Great tapas menu (stick to the small plates stuff -- it's good and well price. No need to order their $30 steaks!) and huge wine selection. I had a $5 glass that wasn't bad. And overall a cool vibe, lots of people but not crowded, just a great neighborhood spot with good food.
Editorial Review by Erin Chambers – Contemporary small plates spot and wine bar anchors downtown La Mesa's food scene with a huge outdoor patio.
