Red Dog Steakhouse REOPENING !!! – The current owners of the Red Lion Grog House in Fountain Square have purchased a Liquor License for North Salem and have all but moved into the Red Dog building. The Red Lion location in Fountain Square was beautifully refinished in the old Murphy Building, which is a plus if the Red Dog can get some of the same love. I think they are going to try to reopen it under the existing name "Red Dog" and "re-kindle" the original applewood smoker. Big boost for North Salem, if this is true.
Dirty/nasty/bad food – I use to visit the reddog, but the last few times I have been in the place just isn't the same. The restrooms are very dirty and smell, the service is awful and the food is way below the reddog standards. I don't know what happened, but I would not recommend this place until someone else owns it. It seems that when the reddog gets new owners they do good for awhile and then they end up not caring and the place falls back to the bottom of the barrel. Don't waste your time driving out the north salem unless you want to lose weight becasue this place will make you sick.
Best Steak Ever – We took a road trip from Terre Haute on our bikes heading to the Red Dog Steakhouse the drive was great and the steaks were even better. I am not sure what they do to their steaks but I have never had a steak with such great flavor. The juices were flowing out and the smell was making my mouth water. I took the first bit and before I knew it my steak was gone. I didn't add any steak sauce like I have in the past at other restaurants. We will be back. Keep up the great job, Red Dog!
Ratings are correct the Best Steak I have ever had – I can't say much more than the other reviews. They are correct. This was my first time to the Red Dog Steakhouse and everything that I have heard and read about this place is right on the money.
Service great, friendly, and by far the best steak I have ever had. I ordered the NY and I will for sure be back with my friends and family. They have much more to offer and who would have guested, the drive was not bad, easy to find and priced just right.
Can't Beat Their Steaks – I have been to the Red Dog Steakhouse several times. and every visit was great. I have had just about every steak that they carry and yes they carry several. This trully is a real steakhouse, they do have other menu items as my wife doesn't care for red meat she is able to get what she likes. Lets get back to the steaks, all of the ones that I have enjoyed have been cooked exactly the way I ordered them with out exception. the flavor is undescribable, the applewood fire puts a unique flavor in the steak and they have a quick season dip that is made in house that is used on everything that is pur on the grill. You can't find any steak around with this flavor. The Red Dog Steakhouse has me spoiled when it comes to steaks, and I have tried several steaks in several states and I always compare them to the Red Dogs Steaks. If you haven't tried this place out then you need to go, it isn't that far and the drive is nice. You might want ot make reservations on the weekends, as we didn't one Friday and we waited 30 minutes to get our seat, and again it was worth the wait,
steaks that melt in your mouth – This was the first time that I had been to the Red Dog Steakhouse, some friends recommened that if we really like steaks then we needed to try this place out. When we pulled up you could smell the applewod burning outside and the smell was wonderful. We went on a wednesday and ordered then NY medium Rare and the filet meduim. While we were waiting we enjoyed a nice large selection salad bar, and the server brought out some bread and butter. When the steaks arrived they looked awsome with juices flowing from them onto the plate. I was able to cut my filet with my fork, I never used the knife at all....The NY was perfect, very flavorfull, juicy and the hint of applewood flavor made it a very good choice. The funny thing about filets is they don't usually have any flavor, this one did, you coould taste the applewood in the filet and I will never order a filet unless I am at the Red Dog Steakhouse.
The server was very pleasant and friendly, we will be back and we are telling our other friends to try this place. The food is outstanding, the service great and the price is in line with the quality and quanity that we received. You have to try this place out for your self!
Steaks are out of this world – I decided to revisit the Red Dog Steakhouse back in April of this year. The last time I was there was about 5 years ago and boy have they made several excellent changes.... The steaks are really out of this world. I enjoyed a nice CAB New York Well done and requested it not to be burnt. Even having ordered it not burnt I was still expecting charred edges but to my surprise and my husband's my steak was well done, not burnt, juicy and I was able to cut it with ease. I spoke with the server who was very friendly and helpful. She informed us that the steaks are all center cuts from the loins and that they have less than 1" of fat on them. All of their steaks come in fresh.
My husband got the Ribeye and there was very little fat, just enough to give it flavor while cooking on the apple wood. We cleaned our plates. We now visit the Red Dog on a regular basis and have made several new friends. We even invite our other friends to come out and enjoy what we consider to be one of the top steakhouses in the state. We drop by at least once a week and enjoy everything about the place. And something that i find absolutly amazing is even though the bar is smoking and connected to the dining room you can't smell the smoke in the dining room. They do a great job of keeping the smoke eaters on and running.
I have even done some singing on Fridays and Saturdays when they have kareoke. The whole bar supports the singers and everyone has a great time.
Awesome steak and atmosphere! – I have visited the Red Dog Steakhouse on several occasions and every time I receive the best steak and service with out exception. I have had several of thier steaks from their 20oz porterhoues to their 8 oz rib eye. They truly do cook over apple wood, no gas, no apple flavoring, the real mccoy. The side dishes are at times ok, but I don't go there for the side dishes I go for the steaks. They work hard to make every visit better than the previous visit. We have already booked our family reunion dinner there. They have a room that will hold all 38 of us. I strongly recommend that if you haven't been to the Red Dog Steakhouse since the new owners have taken over then you need to go and give it a try.... They have recreated the same great flavor that Don and Peg Booker had when they first opened the Red Dog...
Best steak ever! – I am not much of a meat eater so I originally went to Red Dog for the awesome salad bar that has everything that you could ever want. Once there, I couldn't resist the smell of the huge hunks of meat grilling over an applewood fire. I had to try one. I had my first piece of rib eye and I fell in love. I am a regular there now. At least twice a week for a big steak. Can't beat the price because it includes salad bar, potato or rice, and bread. Throw in a beer or two and a piece of homemade pie or cake and you're set to go! Karaoke is awesome too. Atmosphere is great and staff is awesome. Owners Paula and Reid are always wandering around chatting it up with diners. They make you feel at home. LOVE IT!
