good wine, food and good service. – very nice place to have dinner and or a drink. Have taken my lady there often. We enjoy the staff and people watching. I have read about slow or poor service, but have never experienced it. We have even arrived very late and they strayed open for us. Try it.

Forget their order, serve then what we have. Poor service! – Wife and stopped by early in the afternoon. We were seated outside, which is the last time we saw the staff for 10 minutes. I ordered a sandwich, and my wife had the heart of palm salad. Although few people were there, the poor service continued. It was obvious that our server really preferred to stay inside. After being served, my wife discovered that the heart of palm salad was really just lettuce. We did the wait - wait for the server again, and then to our suprise she said "yeh, we are out of palm". Suprise again when the bill for the salad was $6 (menu price for the palm -er ahh, make that the palmless salad).

This is a good place for another restaurant to relocate. Until then, we will pass by on the trail.

Not their Valentine – Took the wife for this past Valentine's Day and experienced a few problems. First, I'd called the restaurant a few days before to set up the reservation and also to check what menu would be available. I was assured that the menu would be their regular fare and NOT a scaled down version for the holiday. We arrived to find out that the menu was totally different and with very few options to choose from. We decided to stay however and give this menu a chance. With this, though, comes the next issue. The menu albeit in French, listed a 'FILET'. Thinking this cut would be as listed, we both ordered this menu item. Much to our dismay, we received a piece of mystery meat that was certainly NOT a filet!! It was actually a FLANK steak. Tough and full of striations. I know for a fact ?filet? in French does not translate into ?flank? in English! As if this was not bad enough, after awaiting the foods arrival for quite some time, it was severely undercooked in comparison to how we'd ordered it. Being in a rush to attend an engagement following dinner, we did not have a chance to send the ?steaks? back. We ate what we could tolerate and paid the fortune for the dinner and left. A few days later, I decided to voice my disappointment to the restaurant. I sent an email to the mgr/owner and explained my story. Expecting an apology and at least some sort of discount on our next meal there, all I received was a brief ?sorry? and several excuses about the menu changes and the ?FILET?. All and all a very disappointing $100 plus dinner and customer service. Seems to me, ?Aixois? must translate to ?eat at your own risk?.

A favorite night out; a fast, reasonably priced lunch for business meetings. – Aixois has been a favorite night out for my husband and me since we finally heeded friends' recommendations to try it two years ago. We have since been going there at least twice a month for dinner, and always for our special occasions: birthdays, anniversaries, visiting in-laws. Favorite menu items are the escargots and mussels, coq au vin, steak, and trout. Aixois also has such fabulous treats as soft-shell crab when in season. I am afraid to admit how much I love the fries! We have had, once or twice, the rushed-feeling service that others have written about, but this was definitely the exception to the norm. I have found that the waiters and waitresses to be very professional and well-informed about the menu and wine list, and by being a return customer have found several who have learned our tastes and remember us and make recommendations. If you find the prices daunting, there is a special Monday night family-style dinner (child friendly).

I frequently use Aixois for business lunches, as the lunch service is very quick and exceptionally well priced. There is also wi-fi available. If you want to impress a client, take him or her here for trout or crepes, and then order coffees for dessert; they serve the most extraordinary caffe latte I have ever had.

Good for lunch (outdoors) - caution for dinner – I am a local in the area and a francophile. I love the overall look of the restaurant. However, unlike French bistros, this restaurant often feels like a loud cafeteria. Consistently noisey. The service is always mediocre -- each time I go, I'm disappointed by the lack of attentiveness and ability to recommend items from the menu. The food, by contrast, is consistently good -- generous portions, varied, nice French touch. Lunch on the terrace if great fun, but I often find myself disappointed after dinner -- I never feel spoiled here. It's a fun place to go with a good group of close friends, whose expectations are not too high.

I Loved It – My girlfriend I and went to Aixois to celebrate our six months. The food was delicious. My rib eye was perfectly cooked and was bursting with flavor. The fries are exceptionally good, with the perfect amount of seasoning. The dining area is very eloquent and romantic, despite what the review says. I would highly recommend Aixois to anyone who has studied the French culture or if you are just out looking for a change. You will be sure to remember it for a long, long time.

Aixois is ok but noisy – As French food goes, Aixois provides good value and quality for the price. The servings are generous. The dish I ordered (trout) was full of butter though and I could not finish it. Service was mediocre at best. It did take a while for the food which made it even harder to wait due to the noise in the room. I could not hear my friend at the other end of the table and it was very hard to carry on a conversation. Outside seating would be a better bet. Overall, l'Aixois is a nice addition to the KC restaurant scene. They just need to make sure that they don't take their success and customers for granted

food lover – After a great meal(wine-appetizer-entree-desert)with new friends, the bill had just been paid ($$$$)when we were stunned to immedietly be told to leave to make room for the next party. The 40 minute wait for our initial orders to be taken was tolerable and nearly forgotten during the usual quiet after-dinner conversation. What a bitter ending!! Not even an offer of seating in the bar or coffee shop. Inexcusable!! In life's great scheme, better than Iraq. Get abused elsewhere for less.

Pate, escargot, duck confit and other French favorites get precise, reverential treatment at this upscale but unpretentious Brookside bistro. – The Scene
Upscale without being stuffy, this Brookside eatery draws a mostly older set--professional couples, tweedy academics and sweater-clad retirees--to its buzzing confines. The tables, chairs and banquets are simple and wooden: comfortable but not ostentatious. A color scheme of pale yellow and deep red gives a cheerful sophistication. Exposed wooden beams lend a slightly rustic feel. Service is chatty but sometimes rushed.

The Food
Highly dedicated renditions of French classics are the draw here. Starters include a plate of deliciously rich (and abundant) house-made pates and three types of steamed, marinated mussels. The variant in Roquefort cheese sauce is creamy and surprisingly subtle. For entrees, the scallops and shrimp are impressively plump specimens whose sweetness is well balanced by bitter arugula and a tangy port-wine reduction. The grilled pork loin comes in a smooth sauce of elegant, grainy mustard. Desserts are also French staples. Skip the lackluster isle flottante and opt instead for the chocolate-drenched profiteroles or classic fruit crepe.
