Weak to inconsistent staff, over priced drinks, not really bad but nothing to write home about.
Violent Staff – A friend and I stopped in for a drink Sunday 10/25/09. I had a beer and my friend had a cocktail. The cocktail was quite good and my friend ordered a second one but from a different bartender. The second bartender a bit rude, dismissive and the drink was bitter and undrinkable. When the first bartender came around we explained the situation. He walked over to the second bartender and while looking directly at me told him that I had complained. The two bartenders, young, muscled guys in Affliction tshirts, came over to us and got very hostile and threw the check at us. They made gestures like they wanted to fight. It was the most ridiculous treatment I have ever experience at any place of business. I don't know if these bartenders were drunk or high or just didn't appreciate customers interrupting their conversation with their friends at the end of the bar, but if you go Chapel, you may be threaten by the staff or worse.
Amazing Staff, Drinks, Music and Performance – I have been going to The Chapel for years and have always enjoyed the space. It seems as though it is transitioning now and just getting better. The staff is friendly and fast, the music is better everytime I stop in and fire performers every Friday night? AMAZING. I would recommend this bar to anyone!
Love it – I love the atmosphere - white seating, high ceiling and bartop. I'm not a big fan of most of the menu drinks, but some are really good. The pineapple is just pineapple infused vodka and I recommend. Be nice to the bartenders and they will be nice to you. The cheese plate is excellent as well.
Chapel = worst of seattle – The drinks are weak and over priced. The staff is awful it's as if they can't be bothered and no matter what you tip they act as if they should be tipped over 20% for the bad service with an attitude they serve up. I'd choose Sizzler over Chapel.
I love Chapel! – I've only been here once but can't wait to go back!! This place had such a fun atmosphere on a busy Friday night. The music was great (I'm a huge electronica/trance fan!) and the martini selection was amazing! Even the bar service was fast...always a plus :)
Unaccetable service. What happened? – I became a fan of the Chapel in 2001. They had excellent service, and had a loyal following of low key locals. Throughout the years, I have hosted many parties at the Chapel, from engagement parties, wedding after parties, birthdays, and happy hour gatherings.
Never had an issue with service.
Until the last 3 times.
#1 Dec 2007: Serious attitude from the new staff, we brushed it off, but stopped becoming regulars
#2 April 2008: Same as above
#3 Aug 2008: We ordered 2 drinks, then, 1 minute later, asked another server to please cancel the order b/c we had to leave. We told another server, then walked out of the bar. At the stairs, the original server caome out and yelled, "Hey! Where are you guys going? Didn't you order drinks?" I said, "We canceled it, we need to go!"
Her reply? "F*** You! Stupid F**"
Even the bouncer was astounded, and apologized on behalf of her.
We left because our other friends got ran into by a car while crossing Pine Street by some drunk idiot.
If I wasn't in a rush, I would of let management know that this type of inappropriate behavior from their staff is completely unacceptable. If we were at some trashy dive bar, then sure, I'd understand. But the Chapel? Needless to say, I will never bring anyone there, or ever host another party or event at the Chapel again.
I can count 4 separate events where I have brought in over $1,500 in revenue for this bar; I don't expect to be known there, or be treated like a VIP, yet common respect is to be expected! Perhaps at an upscale, trendy venue in NYC or LA I might expect snobbery in their service, but this is Seattle. Not Manhattan or West Hollywood.
Martinis with a smile – I love martinis and I love bars that I can walk to with little to no effort. The Chapel fits the bill? now. I live a few paces from The Chapel but there was a period of time that I refused to go there because the service was so atrocious. I am happy to report that I believe that era has come to an end. The last two times I have been to The Chapel I have had great service! The wait staff even smiled. I think things are on the up and up for The Chapel.
Love it here – I'm a big vodka fan and this place just amazes me. The three times I have went the service was great. I got my drinks so fast I kept a pretty strong buzz going. The martini and vodka list keeps going and going. So many drinks so little time. The crowd is mostly trendy yuppie types, but I felt comfortable going there. I was given primo service even though I didn't remotely come close to fitting into the general crowd. Dress to impress at this place. Leave the jeans and Hollister T-shirt at home and I promise you will be singled out and provided great service. The servers even brought me food until last call which is odd since so many bars stop serving food at midnight.
Chapel needs a new staff AGAIN! – I have been going to the chapel every since they open a few years ago. This is a great spot for happy hour and yes they have a beautiful space but the staff RUINS it! They are not consistent with their level or service and they always seem really put out to do their jobs. Come on people open your eyes!
