What's the fuss about? – Four stars for the atmosphere, 2 stars for the food.
I have eaten here twice (with a group) and have been completely underwhelmed.
The 2nd time I thought I would play it safe and get a burger. Who can mess up a burger?
It was dry as a bone, over cooked, and there was a fair amount of gristle.
I didn't finish it.
None of my friends ooh'ed and ahh'ed over their food either, so I can't figure out why so many people love it.
The restaurant itself is nice and enjoyable.
So So Experience – Judging by the reviews below, everyone loves this place. But, I had brunch with friends there the other day and I was less than impressed. Food was cold and service so so.....I will definately give it another try though.
Love this place! – My husband and I thought Atkins was a great place! The atmosphere was relaxed and the food was awesome. I got their special BLT and my husband got there buffalo chicken sandwich. Both were excellent, but what topped the experience was our dessert. It was a phenominal warm apple stuffed pastry on top of vanilla ice cream and swimming in caramel. Definitely save room for this! We highly recommend Atkins.
Great food and atmosphere – Went to Atkins Park for the first time this weekend with family visiting from out of town. We all loved the food- especially the mussels, pueblano queso, jumbayala, and burgers. We sat on the porch which was covered and heated and very comfortable despite the chilly temperatures. We will definitely return for the great food, drink specials, and relaxing atmosphere.
Great Bar and Great Food, Wonderful for Smyrna! – Smyrna is on an upswing right now, and Atkins Park Tavern is at the helm. Going out on a Friday night with friends here is a real pleasure. The food is delicious and exceptionally prepared, and the service has never let us down. Whether you order just a burger or a full entree, you will not be disappointed. My favorite entree is the Boursin Filet, and for lunch I love to get the Shrimp Po-Boy. This is DEFINITELY a place worth looking into if you are around Smyrna and looking for a great time and great food. I like to take clients for lunch here as well. Definitely recommend it, don't miss out!
I have eaten there twice and won't go back. – Most of the good reviews on this site are probably from people who live in Smyrna, where there aren't very many decent food options outside chains. The Virginia Highlands version of this place is a interesting bar with a good history. The Smyrna store lacks any of that appeal.
The food is expensive. The jambalaya is overspiced. The fried chicken is underspiced. The sides tend to be overcooked. The service is inattentive. Bottomline, if you're from out of town, drive into Atlanta.
Atkins Park is Awesome! – WOW! Atkins Park is clearly part of the changing Smyrna landscape and a wonderful culinary oasis to the area. Recently we stopped in for a late lunch and ate outside on the patio. The fountain across the street made for a pleasant cafe-like setting. Our server, Lauren, was prompt, pleasant and helpful. She informed us that the gumbo was spicy which only encouraged me to order a bowl instead of a cup. My partner ordered the meatloaf and I chose the hazelnut Greek stripped bass. Lauren confirmed that both were popular choices.
The gumbo was authentic to its Creole origins and validated Chef Hamlin?s Louisiana background and training. The Andouille and chicken flavors reigned supreme over a complex blend of supporting vegetables all held together in a medium rich tasting roux. Eating it was like taking a trip to New Orleans. "Laissez les bons temps roule!"
The meatloaf was moist and tender and had a light texture and taste. The sweet barbeque glaze complimented this comfort food to a starring role. The bass was also delicious with just the right balance from the tomatoes, capers and artichokes. The fish was moist and flakey with a thin golden crust and a very subtle taste of olive oil. What a treat! The portions for everything were just right and so was the seasoning. Nether of us needed to use any salt or pepper throughout the meal. I was looking forward to my next visit to Atkins Park even before my check came.
Good food, good service. – Great food and service, we really enjoy their Sunday Brunch too. Only complaint would be the noise level sometimes gets crazy since the rooms are not carpeted. Otherwise, it's definitely a go...
Friendly neighborhood pub keeps the food and drinks coming until the wee hours of the morning. – In Short
The original Atkins Park has been a neighborhood fixture in Atlanta since 1922 (making it city's oldest continuously licensed tavern). The Smyrna locale continues the tradition with dark woodwork and deep booths to draw in the locals for libations. The separate dining room offers a quieter space for sampling the Creole-influenced menu. The tasty bar menu with bulging sandwiches is served until 2:30am, making it the perfect place to end a night.
Great place – Atkins park tavern is a great place to eat, drink, hang out with friends. We love it!!!!!!
