bamiyan; horrid service and uninspiring food – The food was bland, my lamb was dry and overcooked. The price seemed excessive for rather small portions. The service was far and beyond the worst I have ever experienced. When I arrived I had a wait to be seated while the waiter took a personal phone call. When I complained that my lamb was bland I was told I simply didn
Who are they kidding? – Rude waitstaff, small portions, overpriced.
Good Food, Good Service – I'll have to admit I've never had Persian or Afghani food before so I was skeptical. When we went we asked the waiter for suggestions and he was very helpful. Even with allergy issues, he was able to point out the things that we should avoid and suggested asking for certain sauces on the side.
All the dishes we had were excellent and I wish I had left room for dessert.
If you're looking for something different, give this place a try.
Best Kebab around here – We've been going to Bamiyan frequently since it opened. My husband and I both love Persian and Afghani food, so this is a natural for us. The Afghani Kebabs are particularly good, as is the Aush soup. I find it amazing that so many are complaining about the service. We've found the service to be absolutely perfect. Maybe that's because we're relatively regular. The owner is very friendly and very quick. When he's not around, his backup is a bit less sure of what they're doing, but, still, always kind and attempting to be accomodating.
We love to go out for good food and can't stand how much average to awful food there is at restaurants of this price range around the eastside. Bamiyan is well above the rest and is our go-to place for reasonably priced very good food in a comfortable setting. Now if only it wasn't in Issaquah since there's just no quick and easy way to Issaquah from Redmond.
AWFUL - you'll feel ripped off! – My husband and I only ventured out to this place because of a coupon in our Entertainment book. There were only 2 or 4 other diners in the restaurant, but it took at least a half hour to get our orders to the table, and when they arrived they were very, very cold. We would have sent them back but our waiter was no where to be seen. The portions were small, mine was badly over seasoned and included the MOST stale bread I've ever been served, and they had significantly raised their prices from those printed in the Entertainment book. Instead of complaining we decided to get out of there ASAP. As we were walking to our car we figured out why we had such horrible service - the waiter was out back talking to his friends instead of delivering hot entrees to his customers.
Delicious, nice 'stay-cation' from our regular food haunts! – We don't venture out to the 'Quah very often (typically head into Redmond), but found this restaurant that has TWO menus featuring middle eastern food choices.
The staff (the owner helped us pick out our meal, as we hadn't tried this type of food before) was super friendly and attentive, the portions were huge (if you like that sort of thing), and the dishes were delish!
Fun departure from the regular food we grab in Redmond - a nice 'stay-cation' for dinner! Will definitely try again and will bring friends!
Nice setting spoiled by very inept service! – I agree with the previous 2 posts that the service is just plain weird and inexplicably delayed. My girlfriend and I went couple of months ago around 7 pm and there were just another couple seated. For no apparent or stated reason we had to wait unusually long to get served.
On a culinary note, the lamb shank we ordered was excellent but for the very big pouring of marinara sauce on top. It made no sense that a whole bunch of semi-sweet (and somewhat spicy) sauce was poured all over the otherwise deliciously tender shank. Their appetizers were better but overall pricey.
Worst Customer Service – My husband and I went to this place last weekend for lunch. There was only one waiter and he greeted us with no enthusiasm. Later when we asked for warm water (as it was a very cold day), he literally brought the cup of water and slamed it over the table. We were shocked by his gesture.
Then finally we ordered the main dish. He never offered us any help with the selection and was always having attitude when talking to us. We had to wait for more than 30 mts for the dishes to arrive. Then he disappeared. He never came to check whether we need some water, or whether the food tasted okay. The quantity of the food is very limited too.
We would never go again to that place.
Bad Customer Service and Long Wait – Our family of four including two youngsters went to Bamiyan for an early dinner on a Sunday. The waiter / owner greeted us with dis-interest. That should've been a good sign that he wasn't interested in our business. After waiting for 10 minutes, we were served water and then another 5 minutes later he took our order with an attitude - don't know if it was because we were planning on sharing our appetizers and entrees since our kids don't eat that much. After waiting 30 minutes, we finally got our appetizers. By this time, we were very hungry and chowed down on our Bolani (potato pastry) and the soup. Then, we waited again for another 15 minutes for our entree - chicken kababs. Meanwhile, others came into the restaurant and were greeted nicely, seated promptly, and received their appetizers with 5 - 10 minutes after placing their order. We've eaten here before and enjoyed the food despite the wait. However, since the service and wait times have gotten worse, we won't be going back again. Perhaps, we'll go back to Kabul Restaurant in Wallingford although it will take us twice as long to get there.
This place is not worth the money!!
We went over to Bamiyan for dinner yesterday and was shocked to find the restaurant absolutely empty. Having been informed that the food was really good I was expecting to find it hard to reserve a table. The only waiter there was on his cell phone, and refused to acknowledge us till he was done chatting. He handed us the menu and went onto another call with more friends of his. After about 15 minutes he came to take the order. HE offered no help or suggestions while we attempted to identify the various options we had. While waiting for the food the cleaner decided to begin cleaning the bathrooms and there was a strong smell of chlorine that filled the restaurant. Finally the waiter served us our food, and you will not believe it, with the cell phone in one hand and dishes in other. He continued his conversations while serving us. The Appetizer was expensive and had no taste. It was literally yogurt mixed in bread. When food was served ... and the waiter STILL on his phone, the vegetarian 'Tarkari' was like boiled vegetables and a slice of bread for $12. It was horrible. Our bill came to $40 and we were definitely not satisfied. The food was too expensive and quality was terrible. We asked for water, but the waiter was too involved in his conversation that he forgot to serve us water. Please think twice before going to this place. There are other options like Kabul, etc.
