Not worth the high prices – Total of $19.22 for a piece of fish, some rice, and a soda at lunchtime on a weekday. Wasn't good enough to be worth $20. Everything on the menu is too expensive.
The waiter mumbled and was rude. He shorted me 3 cents on my change, so I didn't say anything and just let him keep that as his tip.
HOWEVER, I'm glad I had such a bad waiter. I would've hated to waste even more money. That was the best part of my Romano's visit: a waiter so bad that I guitlessly saved by not tipping.
Next time, I'll get a Filet-o-Fish at McDonald's.
Horrible Valentine's Day experience. – It was a horrible Valentine's Day experience at Macaroni Grill.
I had called in a few days before to setup a reservation knowing that it was going to be busy. This way my girlfriend and I wouldn't have to wait for a long time after we got there. Our reservation was for 7pm. We got there 10 minutes before. The people in front of us in line at the hostess station were being told it would be a 45 minute wait until seats were available for non reservations. When I got to the counter and mentioned I had a reservation at 7, the hostess hands us a buzzer and says we'll be called soon. We were not called until 7:30 which was 40 minutes later. That is completely unacceptable to wait that long when having a reservation.
At our meal the waiter named Jon, who only had 3 tables, took his time getting to ours. When he did all he did was pour olive oil on a plate and take our drink order. When he came back with the drinks was when I had to mention to him about the bread. He grabbed the bread and I had to ask about the seasoning for the oil. He also forgot to bring us water despite bringing us empty glasses to put the water from the decanter in. He never took our meal order until after my GF and I had finished eating the bread 15 minutes later. My girlfriend ordered the Florentine steak meal and I ordered the daily special.
My meal was bland tasting and most unappetizing, the butter nut squash special. It was advertised to have truffles and prosciutto on it. It came with neither. Nothing but giant cheese filled pasta with some chopped up vegetables and sauce put on top. Parts of the pasta were hard and over cooked but edible.
My girlfriend's meal was much worse. She asked for her steak to be cooked medium. By aggregate that was what she got because have the steak was almost raw and the other half was burnt to a crisp. It was a steak I wouldn't feed to a dog. She barely ate any of it and stuck with the fries that was served. She's not the type to send food back either and refused to let me do so.
Even after all this, my original drink order was never refilled nor asked to be refilled by the waiter until he was handing us the bill. Didn't ask if were ready to leave, but walked up to our table and plopped down the bill. As he was about to walk away that was when he noticed my empty glass and asked if I wanted a refill. I said no and he left. He never asked if my girl friend wanted a refill on her soda and she was almost out as well. I paid and he left. Not once asking if enjoyed the meal or if we would like to take what we had left to go, which we had plenty because the food was so appalling. Nor would we have taken it, but the utter lack of care and trying to rush us out the door showed us how well Macaroni grill treats its customers.
I did ask to speak with a manager as we walked by the hostess station. I explained a bit to Douglas, the manager, about some of our bad experiences that night. He asked to see our bill, which was about $45, so he could compensate us for the trouble. He comes back and hands me a new bill with $5 taken off. That was almost as insulting as the rest of the experience we had that night.
Bad Restaurant – Took my family here on Sunday and it was horrible at many levels. The water glasses and utensils all had water stains. To start, I gave the waiter a fork that had cheese stuck on it. The water bottle they used to serve us had some kind of food particle, and once the food came, it was barely warm. Looking at the bar, there was a glass container with limes and lemons which was very dirty.
I ordered a pizza flatbread, however once the waiter brought the food, he took it upon himself to bring me a pizza instead--- wow, he never once asked or informed me of the change. The waiter turned out to be the bartender so after he got busy bartending, we ended up having to waive down the manager/waiter who cashed us out.
Bad, bad, bad. I will never eat in this restaurant again.
Used to be great – Before they became apart of the chain they used to be great, but then they got bought out and slowly they went downhill. They got rid of all of my favorites (spinach art dip, crab cakes, this chicken breast dish with broccoli and angel hair and a create your own I used to do with sun dried tomotaoes, artichokes, garlic cloves [sauteed with the perfect little burnt side that brought out all of it's garlicy goodness], chicken, linguine and olive oil sauce) and their pasta became medicore. I used to eat there on a weekly basis (the owner was really nice and used to hang out there often), but the last two times I went it was horrible.
The first dish, Chicken Rustica? had no flavor and the second, the Chicken Canoloni? was HORRIBLE. Not only did it not have any falvor, it was oily and was nothing but cheese.
I wish it could return to it's former glory, but I can't see that happening now that they're owned by some company who decided that all of the food that made it such a great place should be replaced by some menu they no doubt thought up in some board room with the hopes that it would save them time and money.
Not what I expected – I finally got to go to, what I knew as "the wonderful Macaroni's" Well, boy was I ever dissapointed. First the prices were out rageous for what you received. I don't mind paying high prices IF I receive QUALITY service & food! Which here I did not.
The atmosphere was very dark. When I arrived there was a half bottle of wine sitting on the table so I assumed the people that were waiting for me had drank it. Then to my suprise I found that no one had touched the bottle, yet, it was half gone. What's up with that? Then I was told they will charge you by the glass. Yea, like I want to drink out of a bottle someone else handled. The server was OK, but several times I had to hunt for him to get things I needed. This was my first trip and DEFINATELY my LAST. I drove 59 miles round trip for this experience. BLAAAAHHHH NOT AGAIN! Sorry...not my cup of tea. Although, The bread was absolutely wonderful!
Just Another Chain Restaurant – Macaroni Grill used to be a unique, fun place. Then they sold the place to a Restaurant Chain and the Chaingang did what they always do. The result is, Y-A-W-N, more of the same ol same. It's getting hard to tell Macaroni Grill, Olive Garden, Carrabba's, Johnny Caruso's, McItalian's and so on. If you want something really special, look for a Family run neighborhood place. That's where the real food is.
