Terrible food and service at exorbitant prices – I had selected this restaurant to celebrate my wife's birthday. We live in Fremont but decied to go all the way to San Jose to try out a place we had never visited before.
When making reservations the person asked me if this was going to be a special event , and I did tell him the occasion that we were celebrating.
The reservations were for 6 people for 7pm. We were prompted seated, and that (unfortunately) was the only positive experience in an otherwise terrible evening.
We ordered calamari for appetizers, which was just slightly warn when it arived at the table, and the quantity was pathetic.
While waiting for our main course, I asked our waiter if they served bread; it was only when I asked did he bring bread to our table!
The king crab legs were cold (seemed as if it was barely defrosted), and our glasses of water were never refilled during the entire couse of our meal which was for about 90 minutes.
When ordering dessert, the waiter never mentioned anything about the occasion we were celebrating. It was only when I asked him if they did something special for birthdays did he say that the dessert for the birthday person was on the house...
For the kind of money they charge, I think they provide terrible value, and I would never visit this place again and nor would I recommend it to any friends.
Not recommended!!! Inattentive service!! Poor management!! – I love eating at restaurants, typically ones that are hospitable and upper causal. I don?t mind spending money for my entrees, but I have my limits! We had reservations for this restaurant at 7:30 on Friday night for 6 people. My wife and I arrived at the restaurant around 7pm expecting to have a drink in the bar while we waited for our 25 year old daughter and her fiancee, and our 21 year old son and his girl friend. My wife and I sat at a table in the bar, greeted by a very nice young woman that eventually took our order for a few appetizers and cocktails. The bar and restaurant were moderately busy and she greeted us in a timely manger. The cocktails arrived promptly, but somehow we never received our appetizers. When we asked the waitress about the appetizers she said that the kitchen was busy and they would be ready soon and asked us if we wanted to order another drink while we waited for the food and agreed. Although by this time, our daughter and son had arrived and we still did not have our appetizers, since our server was quite busy, I told the manager that I wanted to have our appetizers brought to the table. He agreed and said he would take care of it.
Our server in the dinning room was rude, sarcastic, and not very attentive. I had to ask him multiple times for refills on drinks or more silverware. The food was served luke warm, and to top it off we never received our appetizers. Somehow though at the end of the meal, I was charged for the appetizers I ordered in the bar and never received. When I told my server, he sarcastically replied that it was a transfer from the bar and the manager I spoke with had already left for the night. He said he could buy me a dessert, but by the time we finished our dinner, I was so unhappy I just wanted to leave and my daughter and wife were quite unhappy.
Clubby corporate restaurant draws seafood lovers with fresh daily catches and posh atmosphere. – In Short
Upscale and sophisticated, this chain features art deco-inspired trappings such as dark wood, shiny brass and beveled glass. Servers clad in black and white weave through cocktailing couples and businessmen at the bar. The classic American, seasonally inspired seafood menu changes daily; specialties include starters of Dungeness crab cakes and oysters on the half shell, plus entrees like cedar plank-roasted salmon, sauteed lobster with scallops and rock shrimp, and seared yellowfin tuna with wasabi, soy and ginger.
Sorry Service – I had the pleasure of having a blind date on Saturday evening, and we both choose seafood and this restaurant. It was the worst service I have ever experienced, the waiter (S. Margert) was very rude and inattentive, she took to much time to respond to our table, and she was not that busy. The food was over priced 25.00 for a bowl of Cioppino that was over seasoned , 19.00 for a plate of fettuccini alfredo that was served luke warm, but adding insult to injury was I charged 8.00 for a glass of tea with not one refill. To say the lease it really screwed my evening . Up scale me A**
Absolutely enjoyable from start to finish! – My "date" suggested if (for our first date together, she had been there once before years ago and liked it)..
I got there early and when I sat down at the bar I saw that a recently met friend was the "Bartender"! (I hate the taste of alcohol, but he mixed me a pair of "Long Islands Ice Tea's" and they were EXCELLENT!)
My "date showed up and he fixed her a "Virgin Bloody Mary" and she said it was perfect (Thanks, Mike L")
Our seats were ready at the exact time they were promised on a Saturday night, place was full on a "Sharks Night" even after the beginning of the game The entire staff was courteous, constantly moving without acting as if "overwhelmed" by the crowd and were attentive and helpful throughout the evening.
The steamed muscles with white wine sauce were excellent (I highly recommend them...great sized portion, enough for three to enjoy...but I finished the dish off MYSELF without any help!) My date ordered a shrimp cocktail that looked tasty and was well presented. The bread also was good and the waiter made sure that we never ran out.
My date ordered (an "Atlantic") Salmon, she enjoyed it and it was a good looking, though small piece of fish. She had "no complaints", and said the portion was "just right" for her. I had some "crab cakes" and rice pilov (SP?). I was able to pour some excess wine sauce over the rice and it was DELICIOUS that way..really, try it! The portion was adequate, though I was hoping for more for the price. EVERYTHING was fresh, presented well, served in a timely manner and cooked well. I'd have no problems recommending these dishes.
I WON'T forget to ADD that the DESSERTS were exquisite and well worth the moderate price!
Overall a wonderful night!
Sickness and not worth $$$ – Yes, it can happen anywhere, but for us it happened here. My boyfriend was ill from his fish dish. Lots of cramping and throwing up. I had a different dish and was fine. The food was mediocre and definitely not worth the price, even without the sickness. Pick a different restaurant. Nearby, we liked E & O Trading company and Azucar.
I joined citysearch just to write a review of McCormick and Schmicks... – We went to McCormick & Schmicks this weekend for my husband's birthday. Our reservations were for 5:30, buyt we arrived shortly after 5:00. Not only did they go out of their way to get a table together for us, they let us sit outside on the patio, when I changed my mind at the last minute.
The manager then had the staff remove the umbrellas and replace them with heaters since my year 1/2 old daughter was outside with us. (We were the only ones sitting outside on the patio).
Our server (Elizabeth) came and we put in our orders and I ordered a small cup of orange juice for the baby. She came back 5 minutes later with the drinks and told me that they didn't have little cups, so she made one (looked like an empty pint of ice cream, cover and all) and put a little straw in it. She was friendly and very attentive.
My steak came back overcooked, but it tasted good, and I didn't want to wait for another one, so I just ate it. Elizabeth came by to check on us and I just made her aware that my steak was overcooked. She told me to just give it back to her and she would get another one, or at least see if one was being cooked at the moment. I was totally blown away with the service and how much the manager and staff went out of their way to accommodate us. My husband and in-laws enjoyed their lobster and halibut, as well as the clam chowder.
Crustacean is my favorite restaurant, but McCormick and Schmicks has the best service -- hands down. One of the best dining experiences I've ever had...Highly Recommended.
The best – We tried it is was the best and we return for the Sunday lunches and special dinners.
Great Experience – We saw this restaurant when walking by the Fairmont. Everyone loved their meal, along with the diverse wine list and dessert menu. I had the salmon stuffed with crab, incredible. It doesn't make sense that such a good restaurant would be so empty... perhaps its the location.
Fantastic Fish – SO I had never been here before and I must say it was great! First off my margaritas kicked butt! Then the fish I got was perfect, I almost ordered another. My girlfriend was very impressed and since she is a wine lover she had a good variety to chose from. Was really quite on a Sat night, not sure what that was all about, but had a great time. Ambience was very nice, gave us a good feeling
