Reviews for Pane Bianco

Pane Bianco

On my last trip to the Valley of the Sun, I only had enough time for either Pane or Pizzeria Bianco before picking my travel companion up at the airport, so I initially opted for Pane. Then, after my very tasty tuna sandwich on housemade bread, I remembered Parkinson's law--that work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion. Which somehow seemed to justify hitting up Pizzeria Bianco next, and what do you know? I was early for my airport pickup.

Overpriced and Arrogant ! – I arrived to try the place out during a slow time and there was only one other table there who was already having lunch. I placed my order and asked if they could warm my sandwich in the over to which they replied

"we don't do that here". Ok, I guess the customer is not gonna get any hospitality. When I did get my sandwich, I asked for a glass of water. We only have bottled water was the reply. I asked how they washed their hands and they said they had a tap but don't give tap water. What arrogance. How does this place stay in business. The sandwich was ok, but nothing special . And at $8.00 for a cheese sandwich, a bit overpriced.

My favorite Phoenix eatery. – I used to live right down the street from this place and my daughter and I would walk there every Saturday to each eat a Foccaccia del Giorno and split a Tomato, Basil and Mozzarella sandwich. The things that really set Pane Bianco apart from other places are its bread and its mozzarella. The ciabatta is so rich and flavorful and the mozzarella... Well, just give it a try.

I give a lot of credit to the quality of the food here to the attention-to-detail of Chris. I see him in there regularly and am confident that he will keep this place at the same level of Pizzeria Bianco. Pane Bianco is my hidden gem.

I live in Tucson and I will even take the 10 through Phoenix to go to San Diego SPECIFICALLY to stop by this joint on Saturday mornings. That's how highly I think of it.

The front staff is great and always remembers my name. I wish I could say the same!

Some of the Best Sandwiches I've Ever Had; Gourmet But Pricey – Great minimalist menu, kitchen, outside dining area. Sandwiches are all amazing. But paying $8 for a brown bag sandwich, no matter how good, with no chips, makes this one for special occasions versus a daily meal. It's the "daytime" version of the famous phoenix pizza joint... this is open during the day, the other location downtown at night. There soprassetta (mispelled??) sandwich is a standout.

Great Place! – This is one of the best places I have ever eaten. They use very high quality ingredients with quality production. The food is simple and spectacular. One the best places to eat in Phoenix.

Journey to Mecca – This whole little shopping center with Lux on one side serving the best coffee, Passage on the other side presenting truly artistic clothes, and Panne Bianco in the center serving the best sandwhiches anywhere makes me proud to live in Phoenix.

Great sandwiches – I absolutely love the tuna sandwich and tomato/mozzarella salad. I've been told that the daily market sandwich is better. Not cheap but worth every penny. Nice casual atmosphere.

Brown-bag gourmet lunches on a Central Avenue patio. – The Scene
Chris Bianco's commitment to a simple menu featuring fresh, local ingredients earned his downtown pizzeria a national reputation. Applying the same approach to sandwich making has made his uptown lunch spot an instant success. Office workers, downtown artists and neighborhood residents order at an inside counter, wait for brown-bagged meals and dine outside at umbrella-shaded picnic tables with views of distant Camelback Mountain.

The Food
This is sandwich making elevated to a fine art. Wholesome, often organic, local ingredients are piled generously on delicious, home-baked breads. A small menu lists four sandwiches, two salads and assorted beverages. Microbrewed and classic-brand sodas are displayed in a glass case. The mozzarella sandwich with Bianco's own freshly made cheese, crisp local tomatoes, balsamic vinegar and fresh basil is nothing short of sensational. Salads include the delicious tuna on local organic greens, and the creamy mozzarella, local tomato and basil salad.
