The restaurant's bar, the Taj Bar, is the reason to go. The bartenders are great--especially Jeremy. Plus, in the warm months, they'll serve your drinks on their large people-watching patio. Great spot!

Not worth the time or money – The food is not very good. Very over priced dinner, and a far cry from good Indian food. I will not go back and will encourage people to go elsewhere. Mediocre food and that is over priced.

Save your money and a trip to the ER – Taj Mahal is no longer the place to find great Indian food. Recently they have been investigated by channel six for their horrid cleanliness. So it is with out a surprise that upon my last meal there I was not impressed. (Before the Channel 6 segment) The taste of our meal was on par, yet presentation, portions and just over all quality of the food was poor. Plus the price was ridiculous. My naan was cold! If a restaurant can not deliver warm bread then what is the point? A high employee turn over rate also indicates a massive disorganization of Taj Mahal's owners and management team. Please CHD, shut this place down before people get sick!

Huge portions, good food, but service is kinda weird... – First let me say I ONLY eat here because I can walk there & back in under 10 minutes. Otherwise, for my money, its Taj Palace all the way. I cannot sing Taj Palace's praises enough. But we're not talking about Taj Palace. (Did I mention I like Taj Palace?)

Onward. Taj II is good Indian food. The rice is made properly with cloves & fennel, etc. Their naan can be a bit on the buttery side, but its good. And if you get takeout, as I usually do, you can order an extra rice container & stretch it into 4 tummy-filling portions.

The downside is that their service is strange. I agree with the reviewer who said her server seemed to be high. I know exactly which girl she means. She's got a tattoo on her arm of this: !? I've gone in to pick up takeout and stood at the bar for 2 or 3 minutes while the bartender watches TV (even though the wall that he's facing is a mirror, so he knows I'm there!). I don't mind silent, awkward service from real Indian people, but these are college kids. If I want to be made to feel like I'm not hip enough to spend my money there, I'll go down the street to Hound Dog's Pizza, if you know what I mean.

Too expensive for dinner? Try the lunch buffet and see what you've been missing. – It's a shame that user "cornflake" wrote such a terrible review of this restaurant. If you "do not claim to know much about "real" Indian food" you probably shouldn't be telling people not to go someplace, hmm?

1. "This is low quality, passable-at-best Indian food."

False, cornflake. This is great quality, delicious indian food. If you're new to this sort of cuisine, go for lunch during the buffet. At this time it's only $7.99 and it can't be beat. They offer (at least) 3-4 different dishes every day, along with the standard Tandoor Chicken as well as Naan. Try the Samosas. Little triangles of pastry dough filled with potato, peas and spices. These are fantastic with the sweet (Tamarind) chutney or the mint chutney.

If vegetarian dishes are your sort of thing, they offer lots of them. The buffet usually offers at least two different vegetarian dishes.

2. "But, they are charging $12-16 for entrees (maybe more), which is way out of their league."

False again! If you're looking for a cheap meal, check out a fast food joint - But from what I hear, you can't even get out of McD's for under 6-7 dollars without ordering off the dollar menu. No thanks. Yes, the dinner entrees are 12-16 dollars, but they're worth it. What cornflake forgot to tell you is how much food you get. At dinner, you are given a dish with your entree, and a large bowl of rice. Order an appetizer and side dish and sure, it might cost you 30-40 dollars for a date. That being said, I wouldn't go to dinner here every night. Taj II is worth it. And again, if you're just "an American chick who does not claim to know much about "real" Indian food" then try the buffet and develop your own opinion - not one borrowed from friends who tell you this is barely "passable" as Indian food. If the food was truly ghastly I'd relate...But at this point I suggest you stick to reviewing White Castle and Dollar General.

Dismal value – Let me preface my review by saying that I am an American chick who does not claim to know much about "real" Indian food. I was, however, introduced to Indian cuisine several years ago by Indian friends at what they considered to be the best Indian restaurant in town...

OK, that said, this is low quality, passable-at-best Indian food. Fine if they are charging appropriate prices. But, they are charging $12-16 for entrees (maybe more), which is way out of their league. The service was OK, kind of weird, the servers seemed high or something, but they were nice. The garlic naan was awesome, I'll give them that. But the entrees did not have the consistency nor complexity of flavor I'm used to.

The upsides: not crowded so no wait, a great outdoor patio for warmer evenings. If this place cut its prices in half, it would be packed with people who are craving some basic Indian and an evening with friends on a budget. As is, I have no idea how this place will stay in business.

I am crossing my fingers that there is much better Indian food in town at a better value. I can't believe this place was rated above 9!
