my husband's favorite bar. It takes him back to his college years playing on pinball machines and drinking with his buddies and ME of course:)
Don't pay attention to any of the old reviews. I've been going here consistently for at least three years and the food and service is ALWAYS the best. All the servers are prompt and efficient. And, oh my god, the food is the best. I always look forward to new menu items--they are well priced and so good. I can't imagine why someone would write a negative review.
great little bar – My husband and I first went here about 3 yrs ago while waiting for a table at Yokos before they renovated and moved into the old corner store space. AT first we made fun that the "C' stood for something not so pleasant to say because the female bar tenders were the epitome of that word. But now the employees have changed and we love coming here for late night munchies and cocktails and the pinball machines.
They had a new years dinner 2 yrs ago that was out of this world and we wish they would do it again.
Their chef is great and creates wonderful crazy menu items. My favorite is the poutine. Fries smothered in gravy and topped with collard greens! Who knew!
I went in for brunch this weekend to try it out. The bloody mary's are great and when I asked for a shot of baileys for my coffee, The bar tender was not stingy.
I had the polenta with greens and eggs. It was delicious, but needed more seasoning. I wanted the dirty Englishman, but they were out due to the beans not being ready. No canned beans here!
You guys are great. I'm glad we stuck through the bitchy bartenders and gave you guys the benefit of the doubt. Thanks.
SE PDX's newest brunch place – C Bar just opened for brunch. My girlfriend and I usually hit them up for a late night drink, and since our first visit, we knew that it would be our neighborhood drinking spot. But now they are doing brunch. So girlfriend, dog and I had to hit it up. Great service, great food, and always full cup of coffee, and full water bowl for the pooch. Try the Dirty Englishman. YAY C BAR!!
waist of your time – To be fair I'll start by saying I've been in the service industry for 15 years. My wife and I try to support neighborhood establishments. The third and last time we ventured in to the Cbar we sat at a table because the bar was full (our haunt of choice). After 15 minutes I went to the bar to order drinks. After receiving our drinks at the bar, I asked for a bar towel to clean our filthy table, and was handed a DRY bar towel. Very unsanitary: a little bleach please. We were going to order food, but no one bothered to check on us, so we decided to go somewhere where the staff actually appreciated our business. While waiting for my tab I did a quick head count and found there were only 23 people in the bar. I could service at least 60 by myself in my sleep. They had 2 people behind the bar. Truth of the matter is they just don't give a crap.
Astonishingly bad on so many levels – Possibly the worst service in portland. Aggressive and ignorant, mounds of attitude and the tiniest little teaspoon of efficiency. I suppose once the inevitable happens and this place folds, the bartender might get a job as the resident mean old lady at the nearest prison cafeteria--but it seems unlikely. Even prisons have hiring standards.
Great neighborhood Bar – Good pizza, good drinks, nice atmosphere, air is free of smoke, nice staff. They can be slow sometimes, but that was when I ordered a specialty drink that took a little more effort.
tasty food, nice environment, staff are hotties – This bar is a great place to chill with your friends. They have some good beer/ cocktail options and usually have pretty awesome art/ music. The prices are decent for a bar, and the food is unique and tasty.
Where's the service? – Here was my experience at C-Bar on a recent Friday night: My wife and I arrive to meet a friend for after dinner drinks on my birthday. Seating at the bar is full, but there are a few tables to choose from, so we slide into a booth. We see a waitress bringing drinks to other tables, so we assume that someone will take our order momentarily. After at least 10 minutes of being ignored, my wife finally goes to the bar. Unable to see what was on tap, I told her to order me a bottle of Mirror Pond Pale Ale along with her glass of wine. The bartender tells her he is out of Mirror Pond so she asks for something similar. He gives her a Japanese beer...which is nowhere NEAR similar. Our friend arrived, ordered a drink from the bar and it was brought to him. Later, the waitress actually slows down at our table and asks my wife if she wants another glass of wine...but doesn't ask anyone else at the table if they need anything! My wife later orders nachos and we order more drinks which we receive. But over a half hour later the nachos haven't arrived, even though other tables who ordered after we did were receiving their food. The cook brought out the nachos and we said don't bother and we aren't paying for them either. She stated that she was kind-of busy (which if that night was busy, I'd like to see a slow night) and our friend told her the service was horrible. She muttered an insincere "sorry" and walked off. Our friend also complained to the bartender once we paid the tab. He at least seemed to care somewhat, but didn't seem all that concerned. So combine this evening of "service" with one other experience I've had there with rude and slow service just for an after-work beer and you'll see why I most likely will never be back.
