No Spice Here – The place is nicely decorated and comfortable. I went there for breakfast on a weekend. There were the standard breakfast choices which was a fine selection. I chose the pancakes with pecans and grilled bananas. Three large pancakes arrives with a tiny dollop of limp bananas and a few pecans that were chewy and not toasted. It was almost a joke how meager the "topping" was. They also seemed very frugal with the butter as they provided about a teaspoon's worth. The pancakes were bland and pretty unspectacular and not even good. I heard someone else at a nearby table complaining about his order and "..if he order corned beef hash, where was the corned beef hash?" Apparently, his portion was meager also.

Capital Hill heats up. – There a new restaurant on Capital Hill called Cayenne. What fun. Sophisticated plates from south of the border. Not the normal mish mash you expect from Azteca. I enjoy my first visit and I plan to return often.

looks aren't everything – Walking into Cayenne, I was awestruck; some one spent a lot of money on this place. A curved bar is illuminated by theatrical red light and surrounded by abstract shapes. The place is gorgeous, but thats where my amazement ended. The undertrained hostess stuck us in a neglected corner of the uninhabited restaurant At once our waiter- who so obviously wanted to leave he even asked what time it was- began to continually demand our decision. This was a task in itself, the menu was a mere two pages long (accompanied by a three page drink list)with vague descriptions and ghastly prices. Our waiter disappeared until he brought the bill. We were never checked on throughout the meal despite our unrivaled use of the boys time. The food was mediocre at best. The only thing impressive about Cayenne is the decor, which quickly loses its grandeur.
