Generous Seafood – I came in on a Friday afternoon and dined alone.
The waiter was not very attentive at first, but during my meal seemed to get nicer as the meal progressed.
The ambience was beautiful and very warm and cozy.
i was starving upon walking in so I decided to start with a drink - i tried to passion fruit prisco drink - delicious :)
then i had the seafood soup in a tomato broth with cilanto (starts with an r) - this was a somewhat spicy soup and turned out to be extremely filling. (the waiter recommended it as the LEAST filling soup). The seafood was generous and it really warmed me up on a cold day.
Next I had the seafood ceviche - also unbelievable delicious - I even took half of it home and enjoyed it later.
The food is very well prepared and seasoned...the use of fresh ingredients in both seafood and in the vegetables/herbs is apparent.
It's not the BEST restaurant that i've ever been too but it was very good and I would definitely go again.
It's the typeof place that you can sit in for a while and not want to leave...
Bad fish – I got a seafood dish here that tasted unbelievably unfresh (and bland). The fish seems to be either old or frozen. I can not believe they charge for this food. Just horrible.
Great Authentic Peruvian Food and Drinks – This is the best Peruvian restaurant i have been to in a very long time. I'm Peruvian myself and was born over there came here when i was 9 and now i'm 22. The location here is great we went there for Mothers day 2009 and were pleased. The parking was on the street about a block away and costs us $5 in coins. The restaurant itself is very cozy and very rustic. IT has a little bar in the corner and the drinks were great. The service was also good and the food took the show. I had Pescado a lo Macho something i never had before and it was incredible. My mother ordered Entrana which is steak and that was incredible, she is very tought to please but she loved it. My stepfather who is irish had the pork adobo and he loved that also. The picarones and crepe with lucuma ice cream were also very good. Overall i loved it good price and will be coming back here with more people very soon. It is also only located 2 blocks from St Marks Place which is party central down in the East village, very Andy Warhol like down there . Check it OUT
My second favorite restaurant in NY! – What can I say that's bad about Mancora? The food is delicious... the flavors are unique, there is a wide variety of creative, authentic dishes on the menu, and the drinks are delicious. I go here entirely for the food and because I feel it's a great value, but the service and atmosphere are fairly good, too. Depending on when you go, the restaurant is either completely full or completely empty. It's nice to have an early dinner during the summer, because often they open their doors to the street and you can people-watch. The food itself is also perfect for summer, especially their fresh and citrus-y ceviches. On busy weekend nights it gets a bit crowded and the service is a little worse.. you get the feeling that all the servers are a bit overwhelmed, and flagging down someone to take your order may take a couple tries. But the food and drinks come out quickly regardless, and I feel like it's worth it. Great date spot, but probably not good for large groups. It depends on what you're looking for in a restaurant, but if you're looking for a cute, romantic, mid-priced restaurant with excellent food, this is the place.
Awful – The hostess told us that would take 5 minutes, but we waited 40 minutes for a table for three that never came. Apparently they just have table for couples.
Great food, good service, perfect environment.. – Mancora is my favorite restaurant. My friends and I go there at least once a month. Ceviches, of course, is our best appetise to share among us. We just love shrimps and Mixto cerviches from many kind of cerviches they offered.
Be sides, the grilled fish with the spicy creamy seafood sauce is the best seafood I would recommend, the sauce is very testy. Steak is fine for me as I think that it is not the steak house, but focusing on seafood and roasted chicken, those are yummy..
They have three different kinds of Peruvien beers. and if you love to drink Sangria and Mojito, Mancora is the place you can't miss it.
Friendly service and open air restaurant for the summer breeze, you will find at Mancora.. We love the place and wish you guys will have a good experience like us.
very High Quality Peruvian Flavor – I've been ther two times already. I have taken a friend who is getting his first tastes with peruvian flavors. He will come back and bring others. He is HOOKED on this food, as I have always been.
The ceviche, papa a la Huancaina, the pollo a la brasa and the corn are just GREAT! Don't forget to wash it down with a Cusque?a beer.
Scary Food, Nice Atmosphere – I've eaten Peruvian before and was completely disappointed by this place. The ceviche was huge pieces of raw fish that were a bit intimidating, not the normal chopped ceviche. The chicken with spinach was rubbery and tasteless and almost inedible. The redsnapper was extremely crunchy and not tasty at all. The Caiprinha's were good, the open air environment was good. Would not return here.
Nice environment but small – Food was just as good as expected and in the summer I love how they are almost like an open air restaurant. Space is a bit small but it is fairly cozy.
Got sick off the Red Snapper with Sweet Potato/ Dumb as Bricks Waitress and Owner – If you want to go to a restaurant where if you eat their food for almost a year and then get horribly sick from their fish, go to Mancora. I spent all night on the toilet from their bad fish and usually I wouldn't say anything but instead boycott the place, but because I usually liked Mancora, I called and spoke to the owner, who basically acted like I was trying to pull a fast one on him. His attitude was like, "Well, you were the only one who got sick." meaning I'm lying and trying to get a free meal out of him. He neither offered to refund my bill nor did I ask due to his attitude. He said, "If you come in again, I'll try to take care of you." Well, two days later, I'm still not 100%. I don't dislike Mancora, I just want to warn others who might die from eating bad fish. Dumb as bricks waitress as well. The bus boy was great.
