Save Simon's Cafe, the Best Moroccan in the City! – Simon's Cafe is in the unfortunately position of being located on a stretch of Sepulveda Blvd. that is anathema to resturant-goers, despite its proximity to a Whole Foods market. Every day, thousands pass by, yet little do they know of the culinary delights that await them inside this unassuming little gem of a Morrocan resturant. It breaks my heart when myself and my loved one are the only two people inside the resturant on a thursday night, especially because the food is stupendous as it is. The Lamb Tagine is otherworldly; probably the best lamb dish I have ever had: sweet and tender and moist. The traditional N. African salads are also delicious. And most wines come at exceptional value: the pride of Simon's collection is a 1982 Rothschild vintage. Please help me save this resturant, fellow Sherman Oaksians!
Delicious and good service! – This little place looks unprepossesing from the outside, but inside is an array of mouth-watering delicacies. One of my favorite foods is Meguez sausage, and Simon's is homemade - incredible! All the food is interesting, perfectly spiced, and flavorful. A full range of textures and tastes, something for every palate.
Definitely one of my favorite restaurants in the world!
Don't judge a book by its cover – The outside isn't very impressive and the freeway construction behind it doesn't help it either. But inside is a gem of a restaurant. The food is one of the best I've had in Los Angeles. The meats are tender, the rice fluffy and the vegetables cooked and seasoned to perfection. I love this place!
A great find off the beaten path – A nice quiet place you can hear yourself talk. Free parking in the rear, and walking distance from the movies at the Sherman Oaks Galleria. Fresh middle eastern food, fresh salads and many choices from the grill, delicious food, home made soups and many choices, including wonderful middle eastern appetizers, fresh Ricotta Cheese Cake is light and has different fillings, ie, apricot or chocolate. Service was excellent and portions are large enough to share.
The best Couscous Royale in town – We stopped into Simon's after walking by and looking over the menu in the window. I had the Couscous Royale, and my husband had the Merguez. The first bite of each told us that we had found a taste of home (being a French national). The Merguez is made by the owner on a small machine he keeps in the kitchen. He uses the less-often found lamb for his sausages versus the beef variety. I had the Merguez in the Couscous Royale and we agreed that it was great. We finished the meal with Chocolate Mousse and a warm Chocolate Cake that were both delicious. The owner stopped by the table several times and was very nice. All-in-all we decided that it will be a regular stop and wondered why the place wasn't packed. My advice, stop in and try it for yourself. You will not be disappointed.
