I love that there's a classy jazz lounge that's not cheesy in LA. I feel like I'm traveling back to the 50's/60's. They have a great selection of great food and a theme almost every night depending on what type of jazz you like. This place is a hidden gem.
rare find for fantastic food, ambiance and jazz – I have driven past the beverly glenn strip mall for years and never knew that lodged in between the pet store and starbucks is a phenomenal dining experience. Took my hubby here for his bday and loved the food, ambiance and jazz. We started off with some sort of potato/smoked salmon concoction along and lollipop lamb chops. What can I say, wonderfully excellent! Next we went for the beet salad and butter salad, followed by new york strip, bone in (is there any other way?) and black cod. All was good, most was great. The ambiance is a swanky, perfectly lit, intimate, but still very airy vibe. Service was excellent and loved the jazz. Go here for special occasions or just because!
Romantic! – I had my one year anniversary here and boy will it be hard to top this! Our dinner was excellent, the wine was superb and the music is wonderful! it was such a lovely and romantic night! Amazing
Our favorite American restaurant - with Music! – Our favorite American restaurant, the food at Herb Alpert’s Vibrato is sophisticated but not fussy. The good, obviously fresh ingredients include organic, sustainable and grass-fed options. The space is warm, glowing and romantic, with sleek curves and a dramatic floor-to-ceiling fireplace. It makes me happy to eat great food while listening to great music in a gorgeous, intimate ambiance with excellent wine, service, and fair prices!
Unlike many jazz clubs I've been to where the food is a second-rate afterthought, Herb Alpert's Vibrato has enough fine food and wine to be a favorite regular hangout even if they didn’t present a different, top-notch musical act every night. Most nights have no cover, since they only charge for big-name acts or big bands about 3-4 times a month.
With such a variety of great music, we go often. On an easy evening, we might end up at the generous, curvy bar with a friendly, music-savvy group. We’ll order from the appealing Bar Menu, which includes creative well-priced appetizers from their regular menu, such as my favorite-- Lamb Lollipops with Port-Marinated Figs, and my SO's favorite-- Crispy Calamari with Chipotle Aioli, a portion so big we sometimes can't finish it. We both also adore the Fingerling Potato Knish with Smoked Wild Salmon, Champagne-soaked Toasted Mustard Seeds and Lemon-Dill Crème Fraiche, served 3 to an order. There are a half-dozen other tasty choices, all of which we eventually tried... and liked!
The regular dinner prices are reasonable for what you get, considering prime steaks and free world-class music, but dinner and wine can be a bargain, too. Great deals to look for: a selection of 6 high-scoring wines (mostly 90 points and above) for under $40 a bottle (always available); plus a prix-fixe menu on Sundays and Wednesdays with 3 courses for $39 (3 choices for each course) and full-sized portions such as a sliced, pan-seared Ahi Tuna with mango, avocado, lime-cilantro salsa (delicious and huge), a sliced flat-iron steak with tasty trimmings, or my favorite-- a crispy-breaded, tender (pounded, skinless-boneless) whole chicken breast schnitzel with the tiny wing bone still attached, served with a tangle of gently garlic-scented sauteed baby spinach and tomatoes. There’s even a Wine Pairing with the 3-course prix-fixe menu for just $15 for 3 glasses (3 ounces each). YUM! There’s just no way to NOT love this place.
The staff members are friendly, with no attitude, even though there are plenty of celebs and VIPs among the regulars. I strongly recommend reservations. This is my idea of the ideal LA restaurant.

Excellent live music with great STEAKS! – I LOVE this place! There's always a great jazz group playing, and the acoustics are perfect. I have had more expensive steaks, but never better steaks! I guess you could say I'm a steak fiend! The location is great, too. Halfway between Sunset and Ventura Blvd. in woodsy Beverly Glen Canyon.
This is the perfect LA restaurant.
Great Food, Great Service, Great Sound – I find the service to be excellent, caring, and dependable. After many dinners and shows, I proposed to my bride here, at a table near the fireplace, and they made everything perfect, with so much class. We will definitely celebrate our first anniversary at Vibrato this May! The ambiance is great. Warm, cozy and attractive, filled with art and a cutting-edge sound system. The owner is Herb Alpert, of the Tijuana Brass and A&M Records, and most of the art is by him. He also knows about sound quality, which is why his place sounds so good.
We also enjoy Vibrato's food, and consider the prices very fair for what we get, which is the best prime steaks in town, comparable to Mastro's, Cut, Nick and Stef's, Wolfgang's and Arroyo Chop House. The difference is that most of these charge considerably more, and don't have great live jazz free (most nights), making them all more expensive, and a lot less attractive than an evening out at Vibrato. My wife is not as much of a steak lover as me, and she usually has the fresh fish, or a Dungeness crab salad, which she loves. We usually share a dessert, either the moist bread pudding or the buttery shortbread crusted blueberry pie, the best either of us have ever tasted. Early this month, we met friends from the Valley at Vibrato, and they had a great time. We saw Gianni Russo, from the Godfather film, who did a classic Vegas-style show. Great fun!
Over it – My wife and I went to Vibrato last Saturday, and I can assure you it will be the last time I go there to eat. A man came by with a thick accent, who I assumed was some kind of manager. He came by before we had been served any food, and at that point everything was fine. I could see right through his insincerity and could tell he was just going through the motions of pretending to be concerned about guest service. My wife ordered the Veal, which was said to be a signature item. If you call an over cooked, dry, tasteless veal a signature, there's a problem. The thing was also HUGE, but let me tell you, giving someone a larger portion doesn't make up for the lack of quality. I ordered a dry aged filet mignon. The steak was over priced at $54 a la carte, and it was over cooked as I ordered it medium rare, and it came out looking mostly brown with just a slight pink in the middle. The server could tell we were unhappy, but I waited so long for the steak I was famished, and couldn't stand waiting for them to re-cook it. We looked around the dining room for the manager that had stopped by, but he was no where to be found. I guess he is aware of the sub par food they're serving so decides to evacuate the dining room when it gets busy. By the time we were thoroughly disappointed with the food, we both decided that being there for 2 hours to just be disappointed and over charged will result in a review like the one you're reading now.
Best of the Best – You can't beat Vibratos if you love Jazz, good food and great ambiance. We need a sixth star here!
Excellent dinners for special occasions – Vibrato sometimes suffers from lackluster service. the food is very good though very expensive. Entrees are stand alone, no sides and the bill will shock you if you are not prepared.
Pricey but worth it for a fancy occasion – This place is a fun night out, but definitely for an older crowd overall. My boyfriend and I were there for Valentine's day to see some live jazz which was amazing, but the people next to us were celebrating their 56th wedding anniversary when we just graduated from college last year, and that was pretty much the average age there, minus two other younger couples, but as long as you are with a good conversation partner it is worth going. The food is VERY WELL done but a bit pricey with the cheapest entree at $28 but there is no cover for the live jazz so it evens out. The service was very good, but at times with the music it was hard to talk with my boyfriend across our table since our table was abnormally long. Go prepared to spend some money and make sure you call in advance to check what time the jazz shows are starting. Also try and ask for a booth table if possible which will give you and your date a better date experience. Great romantic spot either way up in the hills of bel air.
This Restaurant SUCKED! – I wish I had listened to the review about lazy service and overpriced food! We went on Valentine's Day (admittedly, not a good day to judge a restaurant) and waited forever to get seated. I was told that they had "120 people on the waiting list" but when we arrived there were eight empty tables downstairs. We waited for over an hour to get seated upstairs away from the stage where there were another 6 empty tables (even though there were many open tables downstairs).
The food wasn't bad but the service was extremely poor. An 18% gratuity was automatically added to the $125 per person fixed price menu so the waiter had no incentive to provide good service. We waited 20 minutes between courses while the people next to us came in 1/2 hour later and were served before us.
The oysters and the steak were OK but not worth the $125 price per person for four skimpy courses. The drinks are overpriced, though good, and the band played for about 45 minutes of the two hours we were there.
The upshot is that we paid $450 for two people to sit in a corner of a half-empty restaurant and get ignored. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone and I won't be back. IGNORE THIS REVIEW AT YOUR OWN PERIL! For this kind of money, go to FOGO de CHAO and enjoy a fabulous meal instead.
