Well, after 6 hours in the Salon and $90 (originally should have coast me $60) later I'm still disappointed with my hair color! I have been using Aveda color for over 3 years now and this is the first time I am unhappy with the final product. This was my first coloring experience at this location, but I came in hand with my formula from the Aveda Salon I use in Chicago. After the first attempt I ended up with a darker root then when I first waked in and lighter ends. The second attempt finished looking like a darker version of the first attempt... and yes that includes what should have been brown roots now black.... The third and final attempt the stylist added highlights into the now black roots, but unfortunately I still have lovely chunks of the black color on the sides. On top of it not once did management get involved to try to compensate me for my time and extra money spent at the salon. Looks like I'll be going back to my Chicago Aveda Salon in a few days to have them fix this.... which of course is going to cost me more time and money. I cannot in all honesty recommend this salon to anyone, I am extremely disappointed not only with the outcome of my hair color, but with the lack of intervention from management. I feel they do not value the time or money of their customers.
Decent Service, Although Overpriced – I went in for a basic facial. The aesthetician sat with me for a brief Q & A beforehand. She asked what kind of facial I wanted and I replied the "60 min Elemental Nature" facial. (Note: on the brochure, this is listed as $80.) She scribbled something down on her clipboard, finished the Q & A, then brought me into the massage room. The massage was fine (albeit unremarkable). When I checked out, I was charged $120, which is $40 more than what had been listed on the brochure (and all of this was *before* tip). When I asked why, I was told I'd received something *other* than the Elemental Nature facial using more expensive products. Perhaps I am a sucker, but I went ahead and paid the extra (what's done is done, after all). However, I will *not* be returning anytime soon.
ok...just...ok – I called and the receptionist was friendly. He suggested a stylist for my needs. I wanted something different, I brought pictures (a cute bob with a lot of layers) knowing I wanted something a bit out of the ordinary. My stylist was right on time. She seemed to be in a bit of a hurry. She told me she could do my haircut no problem. The shampoo girl gave me some weird head massage rub thing for a minute. Anyway, my stylist cut my hair in like, 15 minutes, blowdried it and cut it again with the zig-zag scissors. it looked o.k. Kind of matronly actually. She spent more time talking about herself than paying attention to my hair. My hair was not like my picture. My bob was uneven on the bottom AND in the layers. I washed it and now I can't even style it. I am afraid to go back because I don't want it cut any shorter. I will say she covered up the cut with an ok blowdry. I paid what I thought was a lot for my haircut, and I don't like it. I won't be coming back. Oh well...the search continues.
The best cut and color for curly hair – I usually leave salons with tears in my eyes because they don't cut, color, or style curly hair well. This place did an excellent job and the service was fabulous.
Ali and Rene' Moved! – I called A+S, and they told me Ali and Rene' are at Lakshmi Hair Studio in old City!
I am going with them!
Update: I went to see them at Lakshmi...WOW! So cool! Great atmosphere! Of course I was happy as always! The whole feel of Lakshmi was very urban and hip. The location was gorgeous!
Wonderful Cut and Color – I love Art + Science! I am very, very picky about my hair and have been completely satisfied with my haircuts from Rene. She listens to what I want but also gives her own professional advice. I've also been pleased with the coloring services. Although I always struggle with parking, it's worth the hassle.
Color your hair here, seriously! – I do not like salons and I generally am never satisfied with my hair when I leave one. I kept researching and researching salons in the city and outside Philadelphia. I read a small article on Daily Candy and decided to look up Art + Science. I read all the stylists bios and decided to pick Ali because she had "color" under her name. I crossed my fingers and made an appointment. I have NEVER walked out pleased with my hair. She did the most amazing coloring job. I went from multi-shades of terrible uneven sort of brown sort of brassy, to beautiful light golden buttery brown. It has been a few days and I have gotten so many compliments already. Everyone there was so nice and fun, but Ali is definitely the person when it comes to color. She just overall rules, take my word for it! You will not be sorry!
My favorite place for spa services – I get facials and massages here. When you get a facial they start you off with a footrub. The massages are the best. You can sign up to have them text message you when they have last minute appointments open as well.
Most importantly, all the products are natural!
