Good Food, Better Beer and Great Service – Nice bright brew pub with some pretty good food. Ended up there on a business trip and thoroughly enjoyed my dinner even though I was by myself. I would especially recommend their IPA

Pretty Chill – I don't know about "touristy," when I was there last night it was packed full of suits. Went in for a cool drink, we were thirsty from walkin around, it was around 3 pm. We had never been there before and so my boyfriend and I got this beer tasting special, for $5.95 we were only supposed to get 5 tastes but we ended up with 7, and free glasses. The bartender was cool, maybe it was just because we're nice and treat people well, or maybe the place is just cool enough to hook people up. Bottom line is, we came back for the happy hour (3:30-6:30). A pitcher of beer is $9.50 and that's not overpriced, as I only drink dark beers and it was a porter. The food is mainstream American food. Nothing fancy, normal portions, normal prices. Watch your tab to be sure you get the specials you're entitled to for the happy hour special. It's not a bad place, not the best place in the world, but if you're on K and you're thirsty, it's worth a beer.

Good for happy hour – The random distribution of reviews by one-time visitors is indicative of what I've experienced: sometimes the food isn't so good, and sometimes the service is bad. It's pretty up & down as far as being an actual restaurant goes. It's also a bit on the flashy, chain-restaurant side of design, so if you're looking for a quiet beer in a place without pretense, this isn't it.

This can be an mediocre place for lunch, but thoroughly not worth it if you don't plan to drink some beer, since there is better food within 300 feet in every direction. Watch out, though, because Pyramid beers are usually above 5% - you may spend the afternoon squinting at the fluorescent lighting in your office and wishing you could take a nap.

On the other hand, it IS a great place for beers after work, as the happy hour prices are good for both beer and snacks. Of course, sometimes those snacks aren't so good, but the cheapness of pitchers will undoubtedly offset that in a short amount of time. The crowd around this time is generally NOT kid-friendly; it?s a bunch of downtown workers dousing their collective ire in ethanol. Dirty jokes and loud talking will abound..

The Hefeweizen is still probably their best beer, but they carry the McTarnahan?s ales, as well, and they?re pretty tasty. The seasonal beer is usually worth checking out, as well. I?ve heard the Thomas Kemper sodas are pretty good, but I?ve never had them ? I don?t go out on Friday at Five P.M. to get a soda. At all costs, do NOT purchase any of their ?cocktails,? as they?re made with Soju and are an overpriced joke. If you want a lame, watery Tequila Sunrise, go to Hanger 17; at least there it will have actual Tequila in it.

For those who need it, there?s a large, oval railing out front that?s ideal for locking up bicycles.

There's better food, better beer to be had close by... – I've been to Pyramid a few times... My wife's friend descibed it as "the one that looks like a Disney Store" from the front. "Big Corporate" is good for some things, not so good for others. I think there are 3 strikes against Pyramid as a "brewpub":

- they don't actually brew any beer onsite - this is a Corporate restaurant with beer hauled in from Berkeley

- the food is lackluster pub grub - nothing wrong with simple, but you better do it really well if that's your focus

- the beers aren't very exciting. Today's most exciting brewpubs & micros are doing some incredible things with beer - unfortunately Pyramid is not in this group.

SO - if you need a bite and don't have time to drive walk another 4 to 10 blocks, then Pyramid will get you filled up & rolling again. But if you want to seek out interesting food with quality hand crafted beers, look up one of the other local Sacramento pubs or restaurants.

Bad Food – The food was horrible! I ordered a simple chicken quesadilla and there were bones in it! Gross! Imagine bitting down on that! They also have a small selection of alchohol that isn't beer. Yes, its a brewery, but for happy hour sometimes you go with people who don't really want beer.

Would not recommend :( – Unfortunately we had our company hoiday party at Pyramid. Our dinner consisted of standard beer bar appetizers and 3 and choice of 3 entrees on our menu for $35 a person. The menu choices were cilantro chicken, grilled tri tip, or a vegetarian noodle dish. I believe the food was supposed to be hot dishes but was served cold. The meat was tough and dry on both the chicken and the tri tip and the flavors bland. You actually needed a beer to get it down. The service was mediocre at best; maybe our crowd of 30 or so people upstairs was more than the restaurant could handle. It might be okay if you are a small table or just stop in for a beer and burger. But I won't waste my time checking.

Great food & beer! – We stumbled across the Pyramid Alehouse while wandering downtown and were pleasantly surprised at how good both the food and beer were. There were about ten beers brewed on-site though a few were sold out. They offer several unique dishes such as chicken & apple bratwurst and wood fired pizzas. Everything we tried was excellent.

My recommendation: Try the Hefe Weizen beer and order the garlic fries as an appetizer. The fries may be bad for your breath but were super addictive!

Better with beer than with food; service. – Pyramid may make great beers, but their food is honestly not that great. The first time I went was on a Sunday afternoon and service was great. We ordered the artichoke/spinach dip, which was overly rich, and the fish tacos which were spicy but nothing much else. I went back a 2nd time and it took 1.5 hours to have lunch, which was the buffalo chicken sandwich on foccacia bread. Either they dont' know what foccacia is, or they have bad baking skills. Needless to say, I didn't tip generously and I don't plan on going back.
