AWFUL – DON'T GO IN!!!
The first thing that "greets" us are two awful waitresses with a bad attitude, the place was empty but they still didn't let us choose a table. The cob salad OMG, awful, looked like a plate of garbage and it was tasteless, the salmon tartare plated ugly retro and had no taste. They should think about just closing down.
We had to go to tartine to get some good food after to take the disgusting taste and overall feel away.
Delicious food in a fun and friendly atmosphere! – I highly recommend the delicious french fries! I have liked everything I've tried here. The service is great, too. In addition, it's hard not to notice the beautiful decor. Very fun and great FOOD!!!!

Looove Extra Virgin – When I first moved to nyc, this was my first great find and ever since then I have been back again and again. It is delicious, the crowd is always nice, and the service is always spot on. Go with some friends for a good dinner, a date for a great date, or even bring the family when they come to visit- i bet you get no complaints.
Good Place for Dinner.. – I had the good fortune of discovering a new place in NYC went there by chance one night had fabulous service at the bar then sat a table to have dinner. I think the server was very attentive and gave one of the best service in a restaurant that i had ever had in NYC(And I have been to them all). I ordered the crusted virgin chicken love love love love it!!! Give it a chance folks you wont be disappointed. I would definitely come back..
Glad we waited! – My husband and I have walked past Extra Virgin many times when going to another restaurant in the area that we love. Every time we would pass Extra Virgin, we would say that we need to come back to the area and try it. Last night, we finally did try it, and we definitely enjoyed our meal. I wish I could give it 4 1/2 stars, because that is exactly where it falls for me. The wait was about 1/2 an hour at around 9:00 PM. Not sure how late the restaurant is open, but it definitely died down a lot at around 9:45 PM. Maybe they were turning people away. When we did sit down, we enjoyed a delicious and creative meal that wasn't too expensive, considering the quality of the food. For 3 drinks, an appetizer, and 2 main courses, our bill was about $95. We ordered the scallops with bacon and horseradish mashed potatoes and apples for our appetizer. The scallops were delicious and the combination really worked. I had the salmon with corn salsa and grits, and my husband had the truffle encrusted chicken with pea risotto. I would say that both dishes were equally good, but it seemed that the chicken was the real signature dish - very different and very tasty.
I was surprised that some people posted that they were surprised that the meatballs had pork in them. It is fairly common for meatball recipes to contain pork... That dish is no longer on the menu. There were only 2 pasta dishes. The restaurant offers a lot of different seafood dishes, however.
We would definitely come back to Extra Virgin, and we recommend it.
Hidden Gem in the West Village – I went here last night for an early dinner and was blown away. I sat outside on the sidewalk where the tables create a play of Ny city and the people passing by. The feel and aura was very romantic on a nice summer night and I highly recommend trying to get a seat outside especially if you are on a date. I live in the West Village and as recreation try to go to a new restaurant each time mostly bc there are hundreds of great ones in the neighborhood. This one is an exception. I can't wait to go back. The artichokes and the poached egg were so delicious! I got the goat cheese salad which is fried in breadcrumbs and then topped with greens in an granny apple vinagrette with pistachios on top. SO GOOD. My boyfriend got a shrimp dish and also loved it. They bring out live oil to the table and ask you to pick between a mild, an almondy tasting one, and spicy. We chose the spicy and were quite pleased. I saw their brunch menu and can't wait to go back. I can't recommend this place enough! I'm confused by other peoples negative comments about the service. The service was excellent. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The presentation of the food was beautiful. I feel like there are just some people who will complain about anything no matter what and I think the negative comments on this restaurant are due to those types of people unfortunately.
Make sure to ask what's in the meat – Was there on Sunday nite and ordered the Sunday nite platter - spaghetti and meatballs. The service was fine. Everyone seemed very attentive. When the spaghetti and meatballs arrived, it all looked very good. I am particularly fond of the old spaghetti and meatballs and was not dissatisfied when I started this dish. The meatballs, though, tasted pretty undercooked and I had stomach pains later in the evening. I cannot say there was a direct relation, but I rarely have an upset stomach after a meal and my dinner partner had diahhrea afterwards. But back to the restaurant. After we finished eating (I could not eat my entire meal - not just because the meatballs were undercooked, but because they were HUGE), the folks next to us asked what was in the meatballs. The waitress answered that their meatballs are a mix of beef, veal and pork. Four things: 1) diners ordering meatballs automatically expect that their meatballs are made of beef unless otherwise mentioned (there was no mention of contents on the menu), 2) Jewish folks will break a cardinal rule by eating these (usually unawares), 3) those who are against eating veal because of the way these animals are treated may just end up eating it anyways, and 4) pork undercooked can be a particularly dangerous meal. I would have given this restaurant more than 1 star had the meatball ingredients been on the menu, but they were hidden behind the term "meatballs", leaving the diner to have to determine the ingredients himself. Great experience – Although the outdoor seating is extremely cramped, I would definitely eat here again. The food was delicious (salad and bacon wrapped scallops for apps; steak au poivre and salmon for entrees) and reasonably priced. Great people watching and overall cool, laid-back atmosphere.
