Shame on OZ Moving & Storage for their lack of work ethic/ negligence. We thoroughly researched moving companies before moving from LA to Philadelphia. We chose OZ Moving because of the price and their extensive experience doing cross country moves. Let me say that I never write reviews but feel compelled to do so now since it's my only recourse and I want to save others the disappointment. Everything seemed to go beautifully on the LA end of the move but by the time things got to Philly it just got worse and worse. The trip took way longer than they assured us it would but was technically (fine print) in their ridiculously large window. They had 6 guys pack us in LA and only 2 unload in Philly and they were not that motivated if you know what I mean. We had to be on them all day encouraging them to keep it going. We unpacked the items that were supposedly packed with care "by OZ." These were the pieces of furniture and some extra large pictures in glass frames. OZ encouraged us to have them pack these items since they supposedly knew what they were doing. Just a sample, we opened the box that had the extra large format glass picture frames and the glass was SHATTERED, like heard of elephants ran over the box shattered. I feel that they were negligent in their packing considering they didn't even use bubble wrap, actually the only packing material I could find in a box was a wadded up plastic shopping bag in the corner. The corners of all our pieces of furniture were nicked and chipped. Since we didn't pay them $3,000 extra dollars for their "full value" protection plan, they only paid us .60 per pound for the damage. Yep, that's $9.00 reimbursed! (don't even get me started on the state of our dish pack packed glassware!) If we would have know that they were going to treat our possessions with such disdain, we would have made sure to have full insurance, but for that price we could have just gone with one of the big name movers and avoided all of this anyway. You get what you pay for, shady shady business.
I have to say I was nervous about my DC to NY move - but my experience with OZ was amazing. My movers - Jimmy and Jimmy were so helpful, careful, and awesome. They moved me within in a day - started early and stayed late - making sure my furniture was arranged exactly the way I wanted it. They went the extra mile helping me get settled in - suggesting how I could improve security and even installing my air conditioners for me.
Worst ever!!! – Horrible!!!. A few of my boxes were STOLLEN off of the truck during my move while they were doing an inventory. They went against regulation and counted the boxes half on the truck and half in my apartment. I heard one of the movers yelling at one of the guys for leaving the truck unattended. I got screwed in the situation because there inventory was acurate because they finished after two theives must have walked off with my boxes. I know this for a fact and I lost some valuable things including some important paperwork. Don't let this happen to you!!
WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER DO NOT USE!!! – Oz Moving has proven to be 100% UNRELIABLE and unhelpful. When I made an appointment to get an estimate on my move, they swore up and down that they pride themselves on never canceling, being on time etc. The night before my appointment, having never received a confirmation call as promised, I took the initiative and called them. I spoke with someone from the call center who rudely took my number and hung up. Imagine my surprise when the next day I get a call informing me that not only was my appointment cancelled but that I had APPARENTLY gotten a very detailed message explaining this the day before. This was not the case. The woman essentially called me a liar, my boyfriend and I both missed work for this non-existent appointment and they had the gall to get pissed because neither of us was able to make a 3pm appointment (because I actually work during the day unlike them.) DO NOT USE OZ MOVING.
Great reviews but horrible customer service?? – I'm the kind of person who researches quite thoroughly before I consider a business deal with any company. I decided to contact Oz Moving for my long distance move due to the amazing reviews that they received from past consumers. The representative assisting me seemed rushed while we were talking on the phone. I ignored that because that's just probably how he talks. However, when my fiance and I decided that their services were not going to meet our needs, I politely thanked him for taking the time to talk to me and wished him a good day. Well, his rushed speaking turned into a snobby and disgusting attitude. He spoke in a demeaning manner (as if I am some dimwit who didn't do her research) and was completely rude. I quietly listened to what he had say - I let him vent about how he's been working in this business for over 20 years, how experienced is, and how any other company I could think of using was inferior compared to Oz. After his venting was complete, I kindly thanked him again and wished him a good day. His response was "click". Here's a tip, Mr. Johnathan: in business, you win some and you lose some, it's not personal...having a disgusting attitude will not attract a customer your way. If you are reading this, I still hope that you have a good day.
Quick & Painless – Local move - Bronx to Brooklyn. I've only used movers one other time in NYC, and that was a nightmare.
I went with Oz after 2 recommendations, and I'm glad I did. The crew showed up about 5 minutes early. Overall, I was shocked at the efficiency. Man, they moved fast. My final bill was a bit above the quote, but for reasons that are understandable - extra time for bad traffic between boroughs, and I paid for some packing materials (TV & lamp I forgot about!).
The crew was very nice and helpful, and not one complaint about how much stuff I had, or how some of the small boxes containing only books were a little heavy. Moving is a really big pain in the ass, but if I have to do it again, it'll be with Oz.
Easy sailing – I am surprised by the bad reviews I read here as my experience with Oz moving was a much different one.
To start off, it was a pleasure dealing with the representative who estimated my move. I was very impressed with the professionalism and knowledge she displayed, especially as I was comparing it to other companies who were much less friendly and helpful.
This was my first move after over 10 years and I did a quite extensive market research. Oz was by far the most pleasant to deal with and even though they were a little pricier than others I decided to use them. It was a great decision. My move took place this past Thursday, a few days after the snow storm and I was worried the movers will not arrive on time or at all but they were at my apartment door at 9am sharp, exactly as planned. From that moment on the guys were working their a** off and finished the move as estimated with almost no damages at all. The only issue was that one of the guys slipped on a patch of ice and dropped a night table and one of the legs broke. The next day I spoke to the customer service department and they sent me a carpenter who fixed the table in a way you would never know anything happened.
I commend Oz moving and their customer service. i hope all moving companies in New York City are like that.
Best Movers in NYC – I moved a couple of times in the last few years and this time was the easiest.
I called Oz Moving, got a price, set up the move. It was a very calm and helpful lady who set me up. She also got me some free boxes that were very helpful in expediting the move (there big garment boxes).
On the day of the move, the movers were there 15 minutes early, got everything packed and loaded by noon and went straight to my new place and unloaded. I got the guys some pizza when we got to the new place and when I came down with the head guy at the end f the move as he insisted I would see nothing was left on the trucks, I saw the guys sitting to eat the pizza (over 2 hours after I got it) they didn’t stop working to eat when got it, too bad, it is much better warm.
It was quick, professional and painless.
Superb Service – Oz Moving made my moving day so easy, I wanted them to move in with me!!
The foreman was very nice and polite, and the rest of the crew was so quiet and efficient you could forget they are there. The head guy helped me rearrange my stuff in the new place, I guess it comes naturally after seeing as many apartment as these guys do. He should be applying for an interior designer position when he leaves Oz!!
Oz was a little more expensive than other companies, but it was definitely worth it and worth the hefty tip I gave the guys. I wish all service providers would be as professional and polite as the men from Oz.
Professional movers – Moving in NYC is always a pain, but choosing Oz Moving made the difference.
It was a very pleasant experience from the get go. The person on the phone was very nice and accommodating. He explained the charges and the estimate very clearly and patiently.
When the movers arrived, on time, they were all clean and dressed the same with company shirts and pants. The head guy explained the charges again and had the rest of the guys prepare the equipment for the move. By the time we were done with the paperwork, the guys were working full steam ahead, quietly and did so for the rest of the day with no complaints.
By the end of the day, I was exhausted without lifting a finger but the movers were working as if they started just 15 minutes ago. Amazing!!!
It was a great experience to work with such professionals. I recommend Oz Moving to anyone who wants moving day to go by without going crazy.
