Don't bother – My boyfriend and I (We are big Eagles fans) stopped in to watch the game. I took forever to get a beer. We were going to eat but could not get a seat. To many rowdy people in there for us to enjoy ourselves so we left.
Philly sports bar? – It's a shame that this is really one of the only large sports bars in Center City. I've had good and bad nights at this place. Usually the downside is as follows: We head over to watch a PHILLY TEAM game, you know, Flyers, Phillies, Sixers, or Eagles. We decide to chill in the side room with the big TV. But what's on? Some stupid college football game! Apparently people can call ahead and request a game. But come on. You're in the middle of Philadelphia and you're not going to showcase the Philly teams? This place also always seems super crowded and uncomfortable. I've only had a few decent trips to this place and it was only because the Flyers were in the playoffs so they decided to keep them on TV that day. Oh, and they do have a pretty decent beer selection.
Seriously, you'd be better off taking the subway to South Philly to Chickie's and Pete's. Now that's a REAL Philly sports bar. All Philly, all the time. And the food is better.
meat-eaters, be forewarned – My friends and I used to come here for drinks/appetizers all the time. I've never gotten a real "meal" here, and now I am not sorry about it: A few months back, when I had suggested to a friend to come here, she mentioned that she had eaten a meat-based dish before and said "No way! I ate there before and got really sick." I was quick to discount her statement, until this past spring some other friends and I came here. One of my friends got the giant pretzel sandwich with lots of ham, turkey and cheese. Several hours later she called to tell me she was in the ER with a horrific case of food-borne illness. If you are coming here for just drinks and to watch sports on TV (and MAYBE a non-meat based dish), fine. If you are planning on having a meat dish I would look elsewhere, as their track record for meat handling among people I know is BAD.
If I could give 1/2 star I would – This is by far the worst sports bar in Philly. Clueless management. Bad food. Slow service (althouhg, I dont blame the wait staff...not their fault the whole business is clueless.) The only thing good is the location. Whenever a bar decides to play a regular season Rangers/Devils game (in October, no less), on the main TV with sound, as opposed to the biggest college football game of the year, it is painfully obvious these guys dont have a clue. Their rationale? Someone called ahead and asked if it would be on. And when they are questioned on it, a fist fight almost breaks out. From now on, I am going to call in advance and request the most asinine sporting events be viewed on the big screen. Let's see how far these idiots will go before they catch on.
The food is not good, the management is bad, and the service is bad. Overall, just a trashy place. Although, to people form Pittsburg, this probably sounds pretty appealing.
SPORTS BAR - NOT TEAM ORIENTED - GREAT ATMOSPHERE – This place has all the TV, Bar , Food and sports you can handle. Great place. Do not listen to the cry baby bandwagon Eagle fans complain that their choking sports teams are not forefront.
The games that have the most fans for a team gets rewarded. Eagle fans can enjoy the game on other TV's even if it is not the biggest one in the place. Besides, the Eagles are not going anywhere ever and the fans only come out when they think they have a shot at winning.
Service is good, food is bar fare and people have FUN during the games. Maybe that is why Philadelphia sports fans may not enjoy it. People with lives go for good wholesome fun at the FOX AND HOUND and ROOT ROOT ROOT.
Quit your Crying – The fox and the hound is a great place to watch football in general and everytime there is an eagles game played at the same time as the steelers the eagles game gets the sound. All these eagle fans want to complain and say what great fans they have but look how many steelers fans are there every week compared to eagles fans. Its no wonder steelers fans get the prefered treatment, we are spending the money. Oh, and next year it will still be a steeler bar!!!!!!! The bar has great food too!
The fans are the difference in any sports bar – With hundreds of bars in the city to watch an Eagles game it seems silly to suggest that next year the Fox and Hound will be "more of an Eagles bar than a Pittsburgh bar". The Fox and Hound is catering to where the money is coming from, and the Steeler fans are PACKING in the place every Sunday afternoon (they had to turn people away at the door during the AFC Championship Game, and sold out of 15 cases of Iron City beer before half time!). Was that 'young manager' the same manager who shared information about the bar revenue on Steeler Monday night games were FIVE times more than an Eagle Monday night game? If the Steeler fans were to leave the Fox and Hound next season you would find something to say about the bar they all ended up in too.
Sports heaven – This is an excellent sports bar. It's very large for Center City, and with 20 TVs the game you want to watch will be on at least one of them. Problem is, the place gets absolutely packed on football Sundays, with the large contingent of Steelers fans making it necessary to get there at least an hour before the start of a Steelers game in order to find a place to sit. The bartenders are nice, the waitresses are cute, and the atmosphere is fantastic, with fans of all ages and colors hooting and hollering for their favorite team.
great sports bar – The fox and hound was a very good place to go and watch all the games that we wan't to watch. The only problem was that they catered to the pitt crowd more then the eagles fans and I talked to a manager and the young man said next year will be different and we will be more of and eagles bar then pittsburg. The food was good for a bar and the serves was good also and they had hot women behind the bar also and that helped. I definetly would go back and eat and drink and watch sports again.
BEST SPORTS BAR IN TOWN – We went there on a Sunday to catch all the football games...They had all the games. I dont think anywhere else in town has this. There were alot of Steelers fans. I cant believe all the Eagles fans have given up on their hometown team. Our waitress was great! There was so much energy in this place. I am a football fan and would recommend this place to everyone. They have a ton of draft beers and now they have $2.50 drafts on sundays after 10pm. My buddies and I will be there every Sunday
