Slow-smoked barbecue and down-home sides dished up in a roadhouse setting. – In Short
Famous Dave's recipes began as a hobby for Dave Anderson, who opened his first 'cue shack in Hayward, Wisc., in 1994. Now a national phenomenon, the restaurants cater to diners who dig into finger-licking-tasty meat. The menu features chopped pork, Texas brisket, baby back ribs and fire-kissed chicken slathered with signature sauces like vinegary Georgia Mustard. Entrees, some of which arrive atop a garbage can lid, come with corn on the cob, drunken apples, baked beans or slaw.

good stuff – I like the BBQ, but service tends to be slow. Food is really tasty though, both the entree and the sides. They give lots of bottles of different BBQ sauces on each table to experiment with.. hot, sweet, smoky, etc. Decor is kind of a 1950's gas station/country retro theme..but with pigs too..lots of weird things to look at on the walls while you wait.

Get the Bread Pudding – I'm not a big fan of the menu choices at Famous Dave's because I am trying to lose some weight so I start out a bit biased, but my husband loves the place so we go there sometimes. The Beef Brisket sandwich is very tender and flavorful and I recently tried the Cajun Chicken Sandwich, pretty good but very messy. The "Hell Fire" pickles that are served with all of the sandwiches are sweet and hot and worth the trip alone. But the best thing on the menu is the Bread Pudding, it is really something you just have to try to understand, and a serving is plenty big enough for two. Another great thing about this place is that they often print a survey phone number on your ticket, call, take the survey write down the number and on your next visit-dessert is FREE. So if you think the bread pudding is good the first time, you'll like it even more when it's free.
