Not a favorite – I have eaten at Brios with friends at least 5 or 6 times. Several things there really make me feel cheated.

1) Today I ordered the soup of the day and salad. I got the lobster bisque, which is excellent in flavor, but a tiny portion. The waiter clearly stated that that soup was one of the two soups of the day. The listed price for a bowl of the soup if the day and a salad is $8.95, but my bill was for $9.95. Apparently that soup is a dollar more. I did not feel inclined to complain in front of my friends, but in my opinion this was just plain dishonest.

2) The last time I was there a similar thing happened to two sets of friends (4 people) who asked if they could share certain dishes. The waiter said that would be fine, but when their bills came, they were each charged for a small serving, which was much more expensive than the shared meals they had requested and been told they were getting. Again this seemed dishonest on the part of Brios, but everyone hated to complain, so again, Brio got by with it.

3) The time before that, I was again charged more than the menu stated, but for a different item. Again I did not complain, but left angry.

4) The waiters seem to have been instructed to bring as little bread as possible. Each time I have been there in the last year, the waiter has delayed bringing bread until the food is nearly ready to arrive, and in one case not at all until we asked after the food had been served. Today 8 people were seated at our table and two baskets of bread were brought with a total of 2 chunks of bread partially subdivided into 6 slices along with 6 of the cracker things - not enough for everyone! Eventually someone asked for more bread when we were nearly finished our meal. The waiter brought two more baskets. Talk about stingy!!

5) Several times ago, the waiter gave me someone else's bill, which came to more than I had ordered. When I pointed it out to him, he seemed to think I should just have paid it and made me feel cheap and foolish. That same waiter did not return several people's credit cards when he returned their folders with their charged bills in them. He also did not return change to people who had paid with cash, so I had to give someone money out of my pocket so that that person could leave because they had to go somewhere. I had to tell him that he had failed to return her cash and he seemed completely unable to figure out what he owed to the various people.

6) This next problem, which others have mentioned, is not something that I consider to be really Brio's problem as they are located in a shopping center, which clearly controls the parking. Nevertheless, it is a problem that people need to be warned about, if they are going to go to Brios. The parking is terrible! I am disabled and can virtually never find a disabled parking place. Today I had to park completely across the parking lot, which was quite difficult for me.

In summary, the food tastes good, but beware that the service is bad, the soup portions are small, the policies stink, you will probably pay more than you expect based on the menu prices, and the parking is a challenge. If it were not for the taste of the food, I would definitely give this a 1 star rating.

Highly Recommend. Customer Service begins at the Dinner Table! – My husband, my sister & I have visited the Brio several times. The food is excellent! The breads are excellent. We have only had ONE bad waitress. We usually have outstanding SERVICE! WE are planning a Birthday Gathering on Saturday. WE will write a Review afterwards. WE look forward to sharing this dinning experience with our entire family !!!

rushed out – This was our first dinner here in Richmond from moving from Philly, so we expect a lot. THe bar is high for what we like as far as ambience and food. Brio was ok. Ambience was so-so. Very loud, and no candles on the tables (this is a must for me). The waitress had no clue about wines when we were asking her about different pairings. Food was average. I cant even remember what I ate it was the unmemorable. We ordered our meal and 1 minute later the appetizer was out. The following minute our salads were out. I DO NOT like to be rushed during the one date night I get a week. We had to have a talk with the waitress to stop bringing out food so fast. It was like the restuarant just wanted to get their patrons in and out. We told her to wait before placing our dinner order, but while our appetizers were still being eaten and salads were sitting on the table, our entrees arrived. Not good.

It was an average restaurant. Maybe would go back. I do not understand why I have to inform every server I encounter to stop bringing out courses so fast. Why is everyone trying to rush me in Richmond? I thought it would slow down around here?! I've had 2-3 restaurants try and rush us out.... What ever happened to enjoying and savoring your meal?

Worst Experience at Brio – One evening in Spring 2005, I had a business dinner with my co-workers at Brio at Stony Point Shopping Center in Richmond, VA.

I had a tiramisu for my dessert. In it, there was a piece of plastic. I quickly let our waiter know. He didnt care less and just cleared my plate, saying "Ok". Frustrated, I asked him to bring the manager so that I can talk to him instead, then he agreed and disappeared for good 40 min.

Since it was a business dinner, I did not have time to stay forever. So I went to the back area in the restaurant where all waiters and waitresses hang out and told the situation so I could talk to the manager right away. Then one of the waitresses there went into the kitchen right behind and came out with him.

Surprisingly, he seemed he had known what had been going on but just decided to bother coming out to apologize. He said, "Oh. Go to the front to remove your tiramisu from your bill" and even dared to have said,

"Is there anything we can do for you now?"

At that point, I decided to leave the restaurant quickly. When I went to the front to have our bill taken care of, instead of our waiter who had dissapeared, I had a chance to have a casual chat with hostesses there. They were not surprised to hear my story.

Apparently, similar things happen at this restaurant on such a regular basis that they dont care less.

They have the worst customer service I have encountered in my life. I have never returned to the restaurant since and never will. And neither should you.

This ain't no Olive Garden - (that's a good thing) – Brio offers much more than most Richmonders would tend to expect from an Italian restaurant. I've enjoyed many dishes here that are not offered in the run of the mill Italian place as well as interesting new twists on old classics. The lasagne at Brio could be described as an Italian burrito. It's a pasta "tortilla" filled with an excellent meat sauce and topped with a both Marinara and Bechemel sauces. My other favorites include the chicken "under the brick", the chopped salad and the fantastic Bruschetta.
