My experience was AMAZING but you need to be PREPARED!!! My experience was taking my 2 1/2 year old in with an appointment and utilizing the coupon for 54 photos for $15.
1. It is almost impossible to pick ONE pose of your precious child. So expect to spend around $80 (this includes 4 pose packages AND the CD and much more)
2. Take snacks and water for your child and allot an hour for the photo shoot.
3. I had my husband show up AFTER the photo shoot, help pick out photos and then take our son HOME while I finalized all the packages, payment and waited for the photos to be printed.
4. CAYLA is the best photographer!! She was awesome and made all the difference. No pressure, just professional input and she was very patient.
5. You are not buying amateur photographs you took yourself and printing these at Walgreens. These are professionals that are trained to take amazing pictures and that costs money.
6. Go in with a list of possible people you will be giving these photos to and what sizes they may want (8x10, wallet,etc...). This will make your decision easier.
7. DO NOT take your child during their nap time or just before lunch/dinner. Disaster is inevitable. Be sensitive to your child's schedule and everyone will benefit.
HAVE FUN!!! BE PREPARED AND IT WILL BE AWESOME!!! :)
I walked into this place with no appointment but had no problem getting in, there was no one in the place. I should have taken that as my first clue. I told them what I wanted and didn't want and they kept pushung for things that I did not want. Once the shoot was over I ended up spending over $200. I was only wanting to spend about $100. I ended up with so many pictures that are going to sit in a box because there are just too many. There are many that I do not even like that I ended up purchasing just to get out of there. They are very pushy! I was in there for a total of two hours and with a one year old this is unacceptable! I will not return!
Rude – I signed up to write a review of just how stupid this establishment is. I called to get a photo, I reiterate, one photo for the military. All I needed was a white backdrop and one snap of my camera to send to the US Army. I was told that I could purchase a business package and it would be an hour long shoot. Are you kidding me? what kind of business do you run? You can't do someone a favor like this?? I am not asking for too much am I? Nobody should go here or deal with these folks if this is the way they run their business.
Worst photo experience ever – I wish there was a no star option because there was absolutely nothing acceptable about my session at Portrait Innovations in Ballantyne. It started out on the wrong foot. I called to request that I move my appt. back 30 min and the girl I spoke to said no problem. When we got there, all of the employees were standing at the front desk and the manager said that they skipped lunch waiting for us since we were so late. Nice way to greet us. I told the photographer that the big reason we were there was to get all 4 generations together (which is a very rare opportunity). My daughter is 1 and wasn't going to be incredibly cooperative for an hour long session. She demanded that we do all of the shots and combinations (I guess it's a requirement?) and got very frustrated with me when I asked her to take a few more of us all together. She scared my daughter with her games and wouldn't let my mom help with the toys. When my daughter cried b/c she was scared, the photographer said they would just wait until she got a good shot. I asked her to move on to a different shot multiple times and she didn't- until she was ready. Then at the end, when you select your photos, I said (maybe a dozen times) that I only wanted to buy the shot of the four of us. Sadia just kept saying that she couldn't understand why we didn't like the others too. She would not move on - she was rude, insisted that we should pick other shots. I told her I liked them ok, but I only wanted the one. She still wouldn't accept that as an answer. This is not a "hard sell"- it's just plain bad service, unethical selling techniques and horrible photography. I had to have the manager come over to get the process over with and let us buy the one we wanted and get the heck out of there. I would have walked out if I didn't have such a small window while my grandmother was visiting. "you get what you pay for" isn't even accurate- They should have paid me the $9.95 that they advertise to put up with all their attitude and bad service.
Excellent experience – Extremely pleased with overall experience at the Ballantyne location. Wait time (we scheduled for Friday @ 10am) was only a couple of minutes.
Photographer "Sadia" was excellent....you need to request her when you set up an appointment. She was very thorough and efficient. She took about 40 shots with excellent results. Total shoot time was about 15 minutes. Gallery review was ready in about 5 minutes.
I misunderstood the costs associated with black & white prints but "Bruce" VP of Training for the location was very accommodating and resolved the issue to ensure total customer satisfaction.
Highly recommend this location. Will go back/use in future. Very satisfied.
Very Pleased - But You Get What You Pay For – After reading many reviews, I was skeptical about going here, but I thought it was about all I could afford. So I made an appointment, gathered up the family, and off we went. The place was a bit of a madhouse when we got there -- just lots of people, way more than I expected. But we ended up only having to wait about 15 minutes before our photo shoot started. The shoot itself was great -- lots of poses and two different backdrops; even a wardrobe change. Afterwards, we had to pick our pictures the package we wanted.
PEOPLE: This is part of the deal with portrait innovations, so don't be surprised when you have to do this! It's part of their process. And yes, it can take long. And yes, they will try to upsell you.
We had a great photographer who worked well with my one year old and eight year old (she was young, which made me nervous at first, but did a great job). The only surprise was when we initially selected pictures, the "package" she tried to sell us was almost $400!! But we whittled it down to a selection and price we liked and I have to say, the pictures came out great. She didn't pressure us AT ALL which I appreciated.
Total time there was 90 minutes.
This isn't a $500 photo session, so if you go in knowing what you're going to get, and don't feel pressured to buy the most expensive package, I think you will be pleased. I will definitely go again and recommend them.
Disappointed – I have used Portrait Innovations twice before my visit today. But my experience today just ensured that I will never return. An inexperienced photographer taking photos, and the hard sell to buy a couple hundred dollars of pictures. I thought I understood what package I was buying after telling the photographer that I did not want all these different package combinations. Then I go to pay and it wasn't the price that I saw when I did my photo selection. I was then told that it was too late to change because the photos had been ordered!
Worst Studio in Charlotte, NC – First, if I didn't have to choose a star i wouldn't. Portrait Innovations isn't worthy of even being rated with 1 star. My family and I have gone to them twice (Promenade Shopping Ctr) off Ballantyne Commons Pkwy, Charlotte, NC. Both times we walked out very disappointed. The first time was last December, the 2nd time being just yesterday. This location has the rudest manager and terrible photographers. We have 2 children, our oldest 4 years and our youngest 1 year. The photographer shot 100 poses, actually only 5 different poses when it all comes down to it. We just received about 20 shots of the same 5 poses. These people require you to sit there and narrow the poses down to the ones you like the best. It's a little frustrating that you don't have time to actually really look at them before making a decision. When you have 2 children there who have been patient for the 1 hour it took them to capture the photos, it's hard to have to sit there for another hour just to look through the poses. They rush you b/c they schedule their appt's on top of eachother. They are horrible with kids. The manager made a comment to me when she pulled all our pictures up on the screen "oh my, she was not wanting to cooperate", she had the nerve to say about my 1 year old. I suggested to her that if they had someone in the room to help the photographer it may work out a lot better. The photographer was busy trying to get the kids to remain looking at him that once he got them looking he had to run and grab his camera, by the time he ran and grabbed the camera they were looking elsewhere again. Also, I saw on their website that they have $9.99 promotion, I told the manager that was all we wanted and she said "the $9.99 is in addition to another package". It doesn't say this on their website, very misleading. Maybe not all locations are like this, but people "BEWARE", do NOT go to the location in The Promenade. They are very, very rude. I have more to say, but I've said enough.
Inexperienced rude photographers not good with children – I have an 8-month old and the photographer (Nick) was able to take 40 usable photos in about an hour after which my son became fussy. The only thing the photographer could do to help was say "keep him calm" in a very mean voice. Children are sensitive to the adults around them and my son really, really, really didn't like him. We had to leave before the photos were even ready (we bought the smallest package available) and had already been there almost 2 hours. Our session was cut short by other photographers interrupting Nick explaining that they had to use the bathroom. I think our session was in a location that prohibited employee access to a restroom. There were so many sessions going on at the same time (about 7 concurrent) that the waiting area was jam packed. I was so happy just to get out of there. This was the 10th time that my son was photographed and by far the worst experience that we have had - even Sears and K-mart were more professional. We were at the Promenade location at the intersection of Ballantyne Commons and Providence Rd. in Charlotte, NC and went during the work week while school was in session to keep our session "off peak" for better service, but it didn't help.
Thought you should know first... – I think people should be aware that the company doesn'tt care about you or it's employees at all. It's all about the money. They want to get the most people in and out as possible, as fast as they can-for the money. Over Christmas my store worked our butts off going 12 hours days with only a 15 minute break . (ILLEGAL!) The regional manager was forcing our manager to double book appointments. By lunchtime my eyes would be bloodshot and I would get migranes every weekend. One girl went to the doctor and had several stomach problems from the stress. It might not have been so stressful if we didn't have to keep unattainably high sales averages. Because of the $9.95 special, we all got letters for Christmas stating if we could not get our averages up withn a month (none of us did), they were "letting us go." And they did. Look at the economy... people don't have money now. And to be honest... the $9.95 gives most people enough. Speaking of honesty, they want us to rush customers through the sale so you don't know whats going on and trick you into spending more money than you want. Several managers from other stores tried to "train" me to do this, but I didn't think it was right. One would even add extra sheets into the cart if they weren't paying attention.
If the photos aren't the greatest... you might have had someone that is new - they go through employees like crazy! They fired one guy because he updated his resume online and they took it as he was seeking other employment, or someone was getting married and told to keep quiet about moving after the wedding because they would immediatly get rid of her too. Before they got rid of us, they would have the manager come in on his days off to do interviews for our positions. There is so much more I could say, but with this information you all can make your own decisions as to wether or not you want to do business with a company like that. I would not. Feel free to pass this on, I am from studio #76 in Indiana.
