Cheap Prices Get You Cheap Service – I've been to this place 2 or 3 times, with the cheap 3-massage deal, and I don't recall having a good experience at this location. I was there a couple weeks ago, and the guy who did my deep tissue massage ignored my instructions- I wanted feet, shoulders and neck. I had to redirect him to my feet, when he took forever to get to them, and when he did them, he pressed so hard, it was torture, not heaven. My pedicure lady did ten times better than that 2 days ago when she gave me a 15 minute massage. As I dressed, there was a sign on the door, making it clear what kind of tip I should leave for his valuable, and hard work. I respect what therapists do greatly, but you have to give people what they want, and make their muscles feel good. The two women I had before that were okay.

Quality was going down ... – I am sorry to tell you... but this place, the quality of therapist AND receptionist (specially) are going down and down. I live in Santa Monica for last 17 years and I started going this place about 8-10 years ago. People were so nice and very calming place.. but now, as I read one another review, they demand TIP and the receptionist is very rude. Asking me how much I want to tip BEFORE I receive massage. and my boy friend told me while he was waiting for me, the receptionist was making comment how this client does not tip good or making comment of the person just left and laughing...

One therapist I received massage, she was kept talking talking... I just wanted to have quiet time and not answer any question or speak.

SO, it is sad.

And I just called and no one answered the line... rang 10 times... so I called Brentwood, they answered in 3 rings.

I love my city, Santa Monica, and I want to keep our city a good image and name. I do not think they live in the city... so I guess they don't care, just coming to our city and collect money and go back...

Local people makes local business grow... they should know that.

Sorry, my boyfriend and I are getting massage today at Brentwood. You store lost two good client.

How much tip you give the therapist – up to now have used this Massage Place and clean and friendly and a good service, but his last time this man said i need to tip him more $ as he usually gets $15-20 and i did not tip him enough, this was before the massage which only made me more tense, totally classless and absolutely wouldn't use that service again, totally out of line to say that.

Fantastic Massage & Jazz is a GREAT therapist – I have had a severely soar neck & back for a couple of days and decided to call in to make an appointment. I was able to get a time 15 from when I called. My Therapist was Jazz and she is absolutely amazing!! She listens to you and is happy to change her routine to work on what you need. I left feeling amazing and my soar neck was cured.

Above Average Massage for a Below Average Price – I like that I can call the day of and that they always have a space for me. This last visit I had the pleasure of getting Danny as my massage therapist and he was AMAZING! If you like deep tissue (or Thai) you have to try him.

Do not spend your money or time here – After relocating to Santa Monica I longed for a little bit of bliss close by and found the Massage Place chain. From the first phone call and making the appointment, I should have known. I was truly astounded at the receptionist. She was downright angry and rude. I thought she must have been having a bad day and I just wanted to feel good. I didn't let it bother me. At first. Upon my arrival, I found out the massage therapist was running 15 minutes late. Still not bothered. I got a 35 minute massage because the therapist had a client after me and couldn't do a full hour. Ok. I was charged for the full hour and told the receptionist that I only had 35 minutes. She said I was wrong and get this, that my watch must be broken. I asked the receptionist kindly if she could discount me for the lateness and shortness of the massage. She gave me a $10 off next visit pass.

I gave the therapist a 20% tip because that's just what I do and the receptionist asked me if their was something wrong with the massage or if I was just giving 20% because the guy was late. There is actually signage at The Massage Place with suggested gratuity.

I gave within the 'norm' and was insulted that she would talk gratuity with me after all that.

I gave my pass to a friend with a warning. She took the pass and her experience was way worse than mine and we don't have enough room here to go into that.

The Massage Place should be ashamed of what they are putting into Santa Monica. It's the opposite of what massage, healing and feeling good is all about. Sad.

really?? – I work at a few of these places, and I was curious as to what the reviews would say..I think it's funny that someone who considers themself a good tipper(because they are the "east coast", of course they are) would think that a $10 tip on a $44 massage is a good thing...you obviously have never given a massage. It isn't bad, but it isn't great. Please feel free to go to a spa and spend a minimal of $115 dollars, to get a massage and a steam, then tip 20% on that. You are correct that is a GREAT TIP, but why when you are spending $44 dollars on a massage and no steam, you find it acceptable to tip$10??? You are tipping the therapist for the massage, not the spa. I have had NUMEROUS spa massages throughout my life, and I would still rather go to The Massage Place, spend $44 on a massage, then tip $20, and still have spent less then half of what I would have at a spa. Not every therapist here has been my favorite, but I went to someone different the next time, and have been amazed quite a few times. Do I expect a $20 tip every massage, of course not, but it really validates an hours work when a client recognizes that unlike restaurant staff, I only have one client an hour. I am not making "20%" off 5 clients at a time, with a new group of 5 clients every hour. The owners keep the prices so low, to keep the places busy, and in return we get to keep working, and pay our bills. We live off of the tips our clients leave us. Massage isn't something that can be done like most jobs, the body just can't take it. So next time you go get a massage please consider the fact that your therapist, whether they are the best massage you have ever had or not, is just trying to do what you do...keep the roof over their head, food on the table, gas in the car, and trying to help make the people in this world a little less disgruntled!!!

Very disappointing – I went to a "Massage Place" near my house in Venice (Main Street) frequently for a few years because it was close and cheap. One day after a mix-up on the part of the receptionist (she told me my appointment was 15 minutes later than it was) I was informed that I would still be charged in full, and worse, I was subjected to the most vile and dismissive, incredibly rude and un-professional behavior I may have ever experienced at any establishment ever. I actually really mean that. She had no sense of treating a repeat customer with any degree of fairness because of her error. She did nothing but repeat ad nauseam that they always charge the full amount no matter what happens, apparently even if the mistake was on their end. It was shockingly rude. I would highly recommend avoiding this place at all costs. Sure, you might get a cheap massage, but who cares when you could be treated like this.

If you are looking for a place to relax, go somewhere else.

Terrible Business Practices – My husband and I live in the area and have gone to the Massage Place several times ? we found two providers that we liked and have seen them about 4 times. At my last visit, my provider was a little gruff with me before and during the treatment, but I thought he was just having a bad day. At the end of the treatment he was adamant that I read the tipping notification sign that is on the back of the treatment door ? in the announcement he very clearly outlined that he expected at least a $20 tip on a $44 service ? a 45% + tip!!! I am from the East Coast, so I am well aware of tipping etiquette ? and 45% is not standard. And bottom line, he was gruff during the treatment and a tip should be left at the discretion of the customer based on the level of service provided. Still, I left a good $10 tip (over 20%). But it gets better ? yesterday I made an appointment with this provider and I was called and told that he would not see me because I don?t tip at the $20+ rate!!! I was floored. If you want to make a tip/service fee mandatory, then do so and be up front about it ? but don?t advertise $44 massages and then refuse service to people ? that is just bad business. This is a no-frills massage establishment ? I would rather put my $64 towards a nice spa experience massage and not be treated so rudely. As I said, we live in the area and we will be spreading the word about the incredibly rude service we received.

Super Esthetician, Good Massage, Horrible Manager – I've been there a couple of times. First to get a massage which was good. The second was to get a facial from Lisa which was wonderful! Everything is reasonably priced, but that manager named Carol is the most horrible creature I've ever encountered! She hadn't really offended me directly, but just sitting there and witnessing her talk on the phone and to customers is quite an experience. She's very rude and condescending. She causes a static vibe to the whole place. She needs to sit in some back office and not be seen nor heard!
