San Diego's Best – The food is so spicy n delicious that you can't leave the place immediately. Great environment.
good food – After a long break in san diego we had great dinner in san diego at gourmet indian an indian restaurant at downtown. the food was amazingly good and the lamb rogan josh and the lamb frankiee my fav here and the cocktail i like here is bloody mary which was fine the service was good enough and the CD they gave me is a good remembrance of mine.
Indian food at u – recently i had great dinner at the gourmet india in downtown and the food we ate were paneer saag, veg korma, mushroom masala, crab cake and the lamb makhni with the cocktail bombay sangria
great dinner food – great food, fine service, excellent place to hang out, we had a dinner with chicken saag, lamb makhni and mango lassi all are awesome and the music cd they gave is very pleasing and the service was quite good and the decor was extraordinary. A little bit minus is with parking it is in horton plaza beside the restaurant its not a problem the experience will overcome every thing over here.
Best Indian Food in San Diego! – Gourmet India is one of San Diego?s best kept secrets! I travel frequently to London and always miss the incredible Indian food they serve. I have tried every Indian restaurant in San Diego and Gourmet India is the first that matches the quality of London; However, Gourmet India has is own uniqueness that you will not find in London. The food is geared more toward hot weather climates, so Londoners will find a number of items on the menu that they never see in the UK. They also have a number of incredible beers from all parts of India. I recommend the India Special, which is about two 12 oz beers in volume. This is also a great place for vegetarians or vegans as is provides many dining options. The location is very close to the parking garage in Horton Plaza (to the right of the main parking entrance on 4th and F Streets). You can park in Horton Plaza and validate your ticket in the Mall for three hours of free parking. One of the things you will notice about Gourmet India is the Indian clientele. If you dine at other downtown Indian restaurants you will notice they are missing. I will leave is up to you to draw the conclusion. Gourmet India charges extra for rice (so do most Indian restaurants in San Diego), but the rice high quality and is prepared as a dish. I recommend the vegetable rice of the day. My favorite appetizer is Uttapam, which is a popular griddle cake from Bombay. I also recommend the Mulgutany Soup with chicken, but is also comes with vegetables. The soup is a lentil of the day cooked with ginger, onion, tomatoes and coconut milk. All of the curries are excellent and homemade. The chef/owner will also make nearly anything upon request. I occasionally ask for chicken yogurt saffron, which is not on the menu. I also like to order Chicken Tikka Masala or the Murg Korma. The lunch buffet is basic and very nice, but I prefer ordering from the menu. If you like Indian cuisine, I highly recommend Gourmet India!
best indian food in town! – Great sauce, the lamb makhni is the best I have ever had. The sauce is rich, full, buttery, moderately spicy and just wonderfully balanced. This is the only place to eat indian food, none come close. You can even taste the chicken tikka masala and the sauce just compliments it so well. I have eaten at other indian restaurants and the food is bland and dry. The food here is excellent. I took an indian friend of mine to dine here and he told me it was so good, almost as good as his mother's cooking. The cheese naan is so good, the bread is soft, and pillowy, but cooked with melted stringy cheese inside. I dip the cheese naan in my lamb makhni, so delicious. You will definitely leave here full and completely satisfied. I also order the mango lassi as my drink, its a yogurt based drink with mango and its delicious. Be careful though, because the mango lassi is filling and you might not want to spoli your appetite for dinner. As an appetizer I also reccommend the samosas. You will never want to eat indian food anywhere else if you go here, trust me.
GOURMET...HARDLY – OK... it's authentic in that it's owned and operated by Indians but it is not gourmet. Just passable. OK but low on the sc ale of what indian food should be. The best i can say it that it's not horrible. PS- Don't you find it interesting that the 2 rave reviews that followed mine have NEVER reviewed another restaurant? Sounds like a put-up job to me.
