Great Seafood, Great Deal, Good Customer Service, Average Decor - All in All . . . Great!!! – Normally, I don't take the the time to write reviews good or bad. However, this place was impressive and stood apart from the usual ilk of buffet style restaurants. Although located in what could generously be called a not-so-great area of town and sporting a decor/ambiance that indicates long use with few upgrades, the food here is fresh (very fresh . . . something important especially where seafood is concerned), plentiful, and very well made. The staff are pleasant and generally attentive (they primarily clear your plates for the next go-round and refill your drinks). One goes to a restaurant of course for the food. The food is top-notch! Sushi is expertly prepared and presented and the station is manned by workers who, while not necessarily interactive (as one would expect from say . . . a sushi-type bar), always ensure that favorites are replaced. The oysters were huge and plentiful as were more common delicacies like crab, salt-n-pepper shrimp, muscles and the like. They do serve typical round-eye fare (they have a prime-rib tender and very fresh salad bar) but the seafood is really why one would come here. Recommendations: The sushi (any and all), the salmon, the red snapper, the walnut shrimp, oysters, salt-n-pepper fried shrimp (you eat the whole thing from nose to tail - the frying makes the shell edible), the kimchi (good kimchi if a little sweet for my taste!), and the fried . . . well . . . everything (does anything NOT taste good fried!?). Great stuff! At $12.95 per adult for all you can scarf-down, there is probably no better deal (at least that I've seen) in town. Hope success doesn't ruin what seems to be a well-kept secret for now.
NEW OWNERS - Fresh and Clean – WOW! VIP has changed to East Meets West - a welcome change. The new owners have given the place an entirely new feel and freshened up the menu. Clean and FRESH. Attention to detail in food and service are a great improvement. The addition of tri-tip is genius. I'm looking forward to making this a regular stop.
All you can steak & sushi buffet with great atmosphere, food selection, and service – This buffet has been under new ownership and a new name "East Meets West Steak & Sushi Buffet" since November 2007. It was formally known as VIP Seafood Buffet. They offer a large variety of choices for lunch and dinner. The food is FRESH, the place is warm and clean, and the owner and staff are very courteous and professional. Lunch is $8.50 and dinner is $12.75 for adults. Children 's dinner is $4.25 for ages 3-4, $6.45 for ages 5-7, and $7.45 for ages 8-11. Children's lunch is $1.00 less than the dinner price. Seniors get a $1.00 discount as well. They offer a really good selection of FRESH food including sushi, many Asian dishes, desserts, and newly added charbroiled marinated Tri-Tip and Top Sirloin steak! Dinners also include crab and best of all it is an "all you can eat" experience! They provide a good selection of beers and also serve wines by the glass. I was also surprised to see a large private banquet area that seats approximately 100 persons in the rear of the facility. Also, with the new ownership comes free Wi-Fi internet access! I had a great experience, will definitely return again with my family, and highly recommend it!
Steak & Sushi Buffet... New Restaurant – The old VIP Seafood Buffet is now East meets West Steak & Sushi Buffet. A much needed change. The old VIP had really gone down hill. The new owners have cleaned the place up, have good tasting asian buffet dishes, a good selection of FRESH sushi and best of all have added charbroiled marinated Tri Tip and Sirloin. The price changed only a little, 8.50 for lunch and 12.75 for dinner. Also dinner includes all the crab you can eat. Service has also improved. One of the best values around.
New Owners, new experience – The place was very clean. The owner speaks english [he is not asian, hahaha]. But the food was excellent for the price and being a buffet. Everything was fresh and tasty. I would go back there again. The owner let us know that the name will be changing to East meets West, where they will include grilled tri tips to the menu.
BEWARE – Having had chinese buns (with meat inside) at other Asian restaurants before, I sampled the chinese buns at this place. IThe chinese bun I had emitted a bad smell when I tore it apart and was about to eat it. The smell indicated that it was spoiled. I brought it to the attention of the manager at the front desk, but she became defensive. She interrupted me in mid-sentence and would not even smell the chinese bun to at least be responsive to my concern. Instead she was rude and said, "Everything's fine. We eat that everday. Nobody gets sick." I tried to tell her that it did not smell right, but she just walked away from me. Not only was it rude, but this arrogant attitude towards a customer can indeed give someone a bad food experience. I reported this place to the appropriate food authorities.
Stay Away! If You Want Good Food Go To The Buffet On Greenback! – I read the other reviews on this place and was a little skeptical so I tried it yesterday... What a mistake! The place was clean and pleasant but the food! Horrible! The sushi was dried out and old! It tasted fishy and I gagged when I ate it ! The crab is small and dried out due once again to age! No drawn butter provided for the hot crab but never mind because these poor creatures died in vein to be presented in such a way! The wait staff look at you as they speak to each other in their native language. I think they were talking about me. Very rude in my book! If you want good food at a good price go to the buffet on Greenback in the Sams Club Center. Its a good $2 less and drinks are included! This place charged $11.25 plus $1.35 for non re-fillable hot tea. Fool me once!
Not a Good Choice – This restaurant is terrible! The tables are sticky and dirty, the staff doesn't speak English very well at all, and more importantly, the food is NOT fresh. They serve sashimi in addition to "second rate" sushi rolls, and the sashimi (maguro) is old and discolored, which is extremely scary considering how often raw fish carries parasites if it's not extremely fresh. In addition, I decided to be brave and try ONE mussel, which I bit down into and encountered a piece of shell, which broke a piece off of my tooth without me even realizing jt until after I left the restaurant - seeking dental repair and reimbursement from the restaurant immediately - and so far in calling them and trying to make a claim, they are refusing to give me the name of the manager or business owner, and are very uncooperative. A shady operation as well as a dirty restaurant.
Excellent Value – I have eaten here repeatedly and the food is always fresh and tasty. They have stir fry station where you can choose your own ingredients and that allows me more choices. I have never been disappointed and their walnut shrimp on the dinner menu is excellent!
Best buffet I've been to in Sacramento! – Great variety for someone short on cash. I go there an eat $50 worth of sushi every time. They've got it all, from chinese orange chicken to some teryaki. They even have great desserts and Mongolian BBQ... I recommend lunch time as it will be the freshest. Can get a box to-go as well, feeds 2-3 people if you pack it up.
