Given all the media-hype around it, is Umami everything you dreamed it would be? Probably not. But does it deliver when you're craving a gourmet burger? Definitely. The portion is small but the truffle burger is a good option to go with when you're trying this joint for the first time.
Great burgers that aren't your run of the mill...
Finally, a burger at Umami that I really like: the Carnitas buger. Patty is a blend of pork and carnitas. It has tortilla strips, cilantro, avocado. Ask for diablo sauce to make burger spicy. Arriba, arriba!
Burgers here are pretty good but a tad pricey for the size. The cheesy tater tots steal the show! Great happy hour burger special.
These burgers may seem out of this world expensive, but like the name implies there is something just so good about them. I like the fig and bacon. It's sweet and savory all at the same time. Get the sweet potato fries. You won't regret the upcharge.
Get a taste of umami. The burgers and fries here are delicious. Only complaint is the portion size. The burger is slightly bigger than a slider although it taste really good. I recommend getting the burger with truffle on it. The burger is a bit pricy but well worth trying.
I recommend you try the cali burger and sweet potato fries very good burger place.
went here, walked out and then i went to eat to eat at juicy burger.
Their hamburgers were pretty good along with their potatoes, but as for a business itself, its stops right there. The place is small and gets really stuffy, and the service was very mediocre. Our waiter never smiled and was very rude.
Ok--so I'm vegetarian...but at least COOK the veggie burger! – So I'm obviously not here to rate the meat burgers...
I've been wanting to try the Earth burger, and everyone was raving so I gave it a shot. I ordered the Earth Burger and a side of sweet potato fries. After waiting for more than 30 minutes, the fries came covered with brown sugar (which is not noted on the menu--anywhere) so I had to return them. They asked me if I wanted another order with no brown sugar, I said no thanks. The mayo that they brought out for dipping has now been on my table for 30+minutes and has now changed color...made me change my mind. They brought out an order anyway. Fine. I had two bites that were ok until they brought out the burger.
The burger finally comes out (about 40 minutes now) separately and was ICE COLD. After trying to find my server I had to ask for a manager. The server did ask if I wanted another one, but I don't have an extra hour or two for lunch so we called it a day and I left with an empty and disappointed tummy.
Best Burger in LA – Umami Burger serves the best burger in LA, hands down! The truffle burger is my absolute favorite and their ketchup is homemade! My waitress, Nicole, rocked! The service was amazing and the food was delicious!
Citysearch Editorial Review – There’s been much ado about Umami, the specialized burger shack dreamed up by local restaurateur Adam Fleischman. This Los Feliz location was once occupied by Cobras and Matadors, but now folks flock to this famed spot for ‘fancy burgers’ east of Western. While good, the burgers may not quite be the religious experience one might expect. But there are reasons for the hoopla--the burgers have the visual appeal of a sculpture amid Zen gardens, resting solitary at the center of a pure white plate, perfectly formed discs of brioche bread, buttery meat and your choice of toppings. The simple but comforting Asian aesthetic extends to the surroundings, which are of the warm wood variety, and to the name of the place itself. “Umami” is Japanese for that most elusive, “fifth” taste. Sweet potato fries and onion rings here come with roasted garlic aioli or a house-made ketchup crafted with a secret five-spice recipe. There is also an assortment of Japanese beers, fine wines and desserts on loan from Milk and Cake Monkey.
NO LONGER EXISTS – I used to frequent this location but it no longer exists. Not sure when it closed but when I called today she said it is now an Umami Burger
Everybody's doing it.. – The food is tasty, and the ambiance is pleasing but the buck should stop there. Unfortunately, you will spend several bucks just to tease your appetite. Go if your into paying a lot to 'fit in and be coool'.
