Only if you grew up in a jerkwater town and had no idea of real italian food would you like this place. I've had better frozen pizzas. It was like a upscale Shoney's with Sinatra photos on the wall
Great new restaurant at Myrtle Beach's Market Commons – After a visit to the local art museum, a friend and I dropped in for lunch at the newly opened TIK in the newly opened Market Commons. Very pleasant ambiance - rough faced brick lining the walls, bare faux-oaken tables attractively set with tableware enfolded in black napkins (nice for businessmen - unnecessary for casual beach wear) eclectic jazz on the sound system.
HUGE menu. My friend chose crab cakes with pastina - I chose Beggars Purses with shaved black truffles and peccorino. Our server Brian was friendly without being intrusive and he was knowledgeable. She reported her crabcakes to be perfect - mostly crab and very little cake. My Purses were absolutely divine - plump little sacquettes filled with creamy ricott' and the light oil sauce with truffles and cheese - to die for.
We shared a trio of sorbet - nicely married with whipped cream and fresh min and I ended with an excellent you'd-never-know-it-was decaf Espresso.
Have been raving ever since.
Great food and price! – I have dined at Travania's about 15x since they have opened in Lexington, the food is always world class, and the management makes our party form 2-20 feel great!
Unfortunately Disappointed... – I have heard mixed reviews from my friends about TIK, but my husband and I were going on a date and decided to try the restaurant for ourselves this past Saturday evening.
The ambiance of the restaurant was nice with low lighting and lots of tuscany earth tones. As pricey as the restaurant is, I would definitely expect a white tablecloth though. The wait staff were friendly, but not overly so. After our food was served, we did have to seek them out if we needed anything additional.
The salads qualified as "salads" as they were romaine lettuce topped with diced tomatoes - although the balsamic dressing was pretty flavorful. The cannelloni was disappointing. Some of the noodles were hard around the edges as though they had been sitting out for a while. Both our meals came out barely warm. We had to track down our waiter to get our meals heated up. Of course they came back piping hot - out of the microwave. After dinner, I had a cup of coffee with cream and sugar. The cream came with something floating in it. Of course I had the waiter replace it.
The prices were lower than what I anticipated. However, after dining there I would expect them to be lower based on the experience and the quality of the food.
Overall, I was sadly disappointed. I would really appreciate an exceptional Italian restaurant in Columbia. Before I return to TIK, I would dine at Carrabas; or even perhaps the Olive Garden. In comparison, I would rate them 4-stars and 3-stars respectively. Too bad we don't have a Lombardi's (Dallas) in Columbia.
Good Option for Italian in Lexington – I have had dinner at Travinia's twice since it opened in Lexington. The food was good, but not great as a whole. They have a few dishes that others I was there with really enjoyed, so it is likely dependent on what you order. Nicely decorated interior for Lexington. As with any new restaurant in Lexington, the wait at peak times has been obnoxious. The service was adequate the first time I was there and abysmal the second time. The hostesses felt as if they were doing you a favor by taking your party's name, and our server was difficult to find to put it mildly. In fact, they missed out on a dessert order from us by taking too long (15+ minutes) to come back to our table towards the end of our meal.
That being said, this is a nice place to have dinner in Lexington compared to the plethora of national chain restaurants you would otherwise be choosing from. And who would be their next competitor? Stefano's? Seems like Travinia's would be the obvious choice for the time being in Lexington for Italian.
Superb service ! – Part 1
Well folks I must say I was impressed with the service here ! I had been told by friends to try this place since all my friends know I'm a man that can't even boil water so I thought I would try it out this past Monday 7-23-07. From the moment I entered the door I was treated as if I had been a long time patron. I was graciously greeted by a kind and caring hostess who told me she would keep an eye out for my female friend to arrive while I sat at the bar and enjoyed a tasty margarita mixed especially for me. Believe me when I say it was .....GREAT !
No sooner had I taken a sip than my friend arrived and we were escorted to our front table looking out through the huge glass facade. We felt as if we were center stage and it was really quite a unique location for our table. I highly recommend it to you ! Then our waiter arrived whereupon we greeted him and introduced ourselves to him since he didn't ! I later learned that the wait staff are not allowed to introduce themselves unless asked. Management should change this policy immediately ! Our waiter Brent though really made our meal ! Remember this was my first time here and he really gave me the scoop on what was good and what wasn't. I appreciated his honesty and straight forwardness ! I had arrived being a little nervous on my first visit here but he quickly set me at ease and he really had my friend laughing and joking right along with him. I knew this was going to be a great evening ! Brent quickly brought us our calamari appetizer along with two more margaritas. Hhhhhmmmmmmmmm this was going to be a longgggggggggg meal !!!!!!!! .....to be continued
service great, food great, tobacco smoke in Lexington store is overwhelming – The brand new Lexington SC restaurant has the potential for being our favorite all around place to go. However, the smoke from the bar permeates through the entire establishment. You leave with that tobacco stench in your hair and clothing; you even puff smoke from your lungs for some time after leaving. The manager simply says..."what can we do until they change the law?" Cost effective technology is out there that would neutralize the smoke to the point that we non-smokers would be totally oblivious. Some very successful restaurants in this area, Blue Marlin, e.g., have actually gone smoke free. Good luck, Anderson.
