Horrible – I am suffering from Plantar Faciitis and went to Goodhart Shoes yesterday in hopes of getting help finding relief from the constant pain. Upon entering the store I mentioned this, and also that my pregnant wife (who was with me) is starting to feel similar symptoms due to her not being able to wear her normal shoes while pregnant (swelling issues). The man who assisted us (a pleasant guy with a curly moustache) measured my feet, and brought a pair of shoes for me to try on, while explaining how their shoes (Finn Comfort) and process (Orthotic manipulation) work. I liked him and almost immediately felt relief from the shoes. I was impressed. THEN the owner came over. His first comment was "I thought SHE was the pregnant one," to which I responded jovially about my belly and joked a bit. I explained that I was the one with the major foot problem and that I needed help. He commandeered the conversation and started talking to my wife about how she was wearing the wrong shoes (a pair of running shoes that she had worn literally ONCE in the past year) and that THAT was her problem. We reminded him that her feet were swelling and she was being forced to wear shoes with no support because they were the only ones that fit her at the moment. He continued to tell her she was wearing the wrong shoes and to lecture about the correct way to fit and wear shoes. I again reminded him that it really was ME who was there to spend several hundred dollars on shoes to fix my condition. He continued focusing on her.

Meanwhile, the friendly guy with the moustache was backing away. I got the feeling he had seen this sort of thing go down before and wanted to distance himself from it (and, in retrospect, I don't blame him).

I once again tried to redirect the owner of the store and he once again refused, this time less politely saying something like, "I'm going to finish talking if you don't mind."

This started my adrenalin pumping as he was speaking to me as though chastising a rude child. I waited patiently for another moment, then said, "Really, if we could just focus on my feet that would be great. She isn't going to have any more problems a month from now as the pregnancy will be over."

His response? "I'm going to finish my sentence if you don't mind!"

That got me more upset and I said, "Listen, you're working really hard on un-selling me from these shoes I have on. I am on the verge of spending a lot of money here and you're going to lose a customer."

This got him all riled up. He said (very sarcastically), "Oh, you're a smart guy. You're not a customer anyway."

At this point I took the shoes off and he zipped over to pick them up, as if to prevent me from stealing them or contaminating them or something.

I put my shoes back on, picked up our things (my wife was equally as flabbergasted by all of this as I was by this point) and headed for the door. He continued to deride me as we headed for the door.

I told him that I was not surprised by how empty his store was at 2:00 on a Saturday afternoon (prime shopping time), and left.

Here's the rub. I REALLY wanted to find a solution to my problem and this jerk was so self-absorbed about how he's the only pedorthist in the country to go to Germany for fancy training and focusing on the WRONG customer that I couldn't get the service I wanted.

Thankfully, we went to Footsmart in Corinth Square and spent several hundred dollars at a store with good customer service where they seemed to care about my concerns without feeling like I was being lectured by the teacher from Pink Floyd's "The Wall."

I shared my story about my visit with the Footsmart salesperson and she told me she had heard many stories about customers being brought to tears by this jerk.

Another reviewer referred to him as the Shoe Nazi, and the name fits exquisitely given his personality combined with his emphasis of the German method for shoe fitting.

I think the owner in mentally unbalanced. – I am sorry that one star is the lowest possible rating. I went with my wife to this miserable shoe store yesterday. They were rude when we entered. There were 2 people there talking to another apparent customer when we went in and sat down. My wife had spent around $900 in shoes and inserts since this past summer. She was having a problem with one of the inserts and one of the NB shoes. The woman eventually came over and asked what she could do. She would not resolve the problem, said her husband would be back in a few minutes. When he arrived and finally came over to talk to us, he first said the problem was that she was wearing unapproved shoes (other than those he sells), then said she was lacing her shoe too tight, and finally said her toe was lifting up and causing the problem. When we tried to discuss what was actually happening with the shoe, he called my wife a liar, yes, he said, "You are a liar." Then she said, I guess you aren't going to make this right? I told him he could not talk to my wife like that and that I expected him to appologize. He then told us to go to Hell...again, yes, he said, "You can go to Hell." This didn't fit the situation. He went to the door and held it open so we would leave. This guy is seriously a nut case!

Bad Heart or No Heart Shoe Store – My wife has been a customer for 10 years. Yesterday she went to buy some Finn shoes and was insulted so badly she wouldn't even tell me what happened...other than she isn't going there anymore. Didn't buy the shoes...

Good shoes, not good customer focus. – I found my Finn Comfort shoes there and the first time I went in I got great service, but the shoe was too big, but the salesman assured me the fit was correct. I wore thick socks with them. The upside is that they ground the insole well and I got much needed relief for my arches. The second time I went in I got another salesperson and she was not as friendly or as helpful, and I don't think she liked me because I'm overweight. She didn't seem to want to touch my foot. I got the shoes and they fit well. The third time I went they were closed on a week day and I have repeatedly tried to call to find out when their hours are and there is never an answer, nor do they have an outgoing message to give any basic information, and they do not have a website with that info. I guess I need to find another store to get the Finn Comfort shoes.

They were rude to my sweet, 80-year-old mother – Last year my mother mentioned that her feet were bothering her, and that she maybe needed now shoes. I drove her to Goodhart Shoes. I had been gardening, and was wearing old clothes. My mother, who has macular degeneration, dresses eccentrically. When we walked in the door, the clerk looked us up and down and asked, reluctantly, if he could help us. My mom sais she was looking for comfortable brown shoes. The clerk replied, "That's not the way it works here. WE pick the shoes out for you, you don't tell us what you want." Confused, my mother asked, "Can't i pick a color?" The clerk replied, "You are in the wrong place. I don't think you can afford shoes here." My mom, who is very sweet and not used to be talked to in this way, started to cry. I walked her out. I have never had a retail experience this awful in my life! Ever since, I have referred to the (ironically named) Goodhart Shoe people as "the shoe nazis."
