Avoid Kash for color!! nice guy- bad with highlights. – Let me just say up front, this is a nice place - very convenient, graceful modern interior and friendly staff- however....I just came back from the worst color job I have ever gotten. I went to get a touch up and was sent to a nice young guy named Kash. I had some brown low and high lights that had grown out and after hours in the chair, I was left with flammable hair. Sweet as he is, Kash just fried the heck out of my previously very silky tresses. He didn't even seem to notice that my hair was damaged when I went back to gently ask him to fix it. THEN he said it would cost me another $120 to get it back to where it was when HE screwed it up in the first place !! ( I guess he was too embarrassed?)
And this is a silly superficial point, but he made me feel so old on top of it ( at 27) because I didn't know the latest Lady GaGa news- and I love Lady GaGa! Maybe he doesn't understand older hair (again my ancient 27 yr old hair that used to be in great shape ...) if it isn't on the latest mag cover or Beyonce video. I ended up having to go to another salon and pay another $120 to get it correctly fixed and conditioned so it looks like my healthy hair again. And maybe he would have understood me if I had sent my complaint as a tweet....
Talented – Kash is as talented a stylist as there is. Great place! Can do anything with a pair of scissors that you want, and can also recommend something that can push your boundaries without looking ridiculous if you are not sure.
Great cuts – Charles who hooked me up with a great haircut. The place has a great view of Union Square. Everyone was friendly, and professional. They also had some good music tunes!
Charles is awesome! – I have been going to this salon for a better part of a year, and have tried various stylists there..including Emmanuel, Kash, Jonnie and Charles. They are all great! I go to Charles on a consistent basis and he listens to what you want, and tries his best (and succeeds) at achieving it. I have blonde color and it always seems to turn brassy after a few weeks..Charles worked with me to find the right base, highlights and weaved in color. Looks great! for the first time in awhile, I get compliments on my cut and color. I am very picky and definitely recommend highly..and not to mention, the prices are reasonable. Thanks, Charles!!
Note to self: Use the right adjectives and it will happen- – First off, I am highly disappointed in all the horrible opinions others have shared about this highly diversified salon.
Let me begin in explaining my experience: CHARLES (the Frenchman) is AMAZING!! Not only was I a complete walk in. But he did exactly what I asked him; efficiently and what seemed effortless. He paid very close attention to problem areas (i.e. uneven cut bangs, as a result of my previous doing), and even showed concern that perhaps snips of hair had found their way into my can of diet coke. He's a charmer and a great listener. Any true fashionista knows the French exude style, simply cause they are born with it. This confirms the idea that Charles knows exactly what to do, to make you look and feel better about you. And the proof still remains months later, I have been approached countless times and even had my picture taken, because others want that exact cut. It just comes to show that when others ask, "Who did your hair...?" I know I got away with an amazing cut. Unfortunately I live in Houston, and haven't come across anyone just as great. I'm looking forward to my next visit and this time trying some color!!
Thank you Charles! XO
Find another Salon if you want a haircut/color that YOU want, not what the stylist wants! – I dont know where the good reviews for this salon come from, maybe the owners write them themselves...
My friend and me went there after reading reviews on this website.
I wanted chunky blond highlights and she wanted a short bob.
I told the stylist I put on henna but it was more then a year ago, his response was: I dont promise anything, lets see what happens.
When I'm paying this kind of money for highlights I expect a more intelligent response but I decided to go for it anyway.
After spending about 4 hours in the salon, since the stylist was getting distracted all the time to talk to his friends coming in and pick up his cell phone, I came out with skinny, orange looking highlights.
Not even close to what I was hoping for!!
My friend got a strange, manly looking blunt cut instead of the short, classy bob that she wanted.
Both of us expressed our dissatisfacion but were told that with our hair, this was the best they could do;)
Next morning, I was still upset so I went to a simple salon in Berkeley before work and in about 1 hour came out with the exact highlights I wanted!!!
Inspite of henna and my hair texture;)
Bottom line: I DO NOT recommend Atelier at all!!
Please do yourself a favor and find a stylist who will listen to you and do what you are asking, not what he wants, it's your hair after all!!
Make sure you know whom you go to – I wanted a nice haircolor and haircut and lost my hairdresser due to a move, so I decided to give a try to this place - afterall, I should be able to get a very nice haircut for $70 - nothing of the kind, the guy chopped my hair in 5 minutes, did not even style it, disregarded what I asked him to do with my hair and comon, I have long straight easy to cut hair. The salon is nice, people are nice but the hairdresser was not good at all and too expansive for making me look like a pudel. I do not remember his name now but he was the French guy, so beware. I would not recommed doing manicare there either - mine was pretty bad
Euro-flare meets California-cool at this tres chic Union Square salon. – In Short
Well-to-do clients escape up the antique elevator to the top floor of this downtown high-rise for hair services, mani/pedis, massages, waxing, tanning and makeup applications performed by an upbeat, fashion-forward team of seven. Expansive city views create an urban backdrop for customers, who sit amid lime green and tangerine interiors, while French owner Emmanuel and his crew coif edgy yet sophisticated looks. For the truly daring, custom body painting turns the skin into high-impact, wearable art.
Best so far - try Fabien – I've tried a bunch of fancy salons in search of the perfect haircut and ended up spending a lot of money on so-so results. When I did like the cut, it was usually too high-maintenance for me to deal with (I can't spend more than 5 minutes on my hair). My frustrations ended after I made an appointment with Fabien, who listened carefully to what I wanted and managed to give me a great low-maintenance cut that seemed to get better and better as it grew out. My only complaint is that when I ask for a trim, he cuts off a little more than I want, but since he does such a good job, I can't bring myself to go elsewhere, so I just go less frequently. The salon is quiet and relaxing, and the staff is friendly but doesn't try to push products on you.
Beware of non-professional hairdresser – The atmosphere and the helping staff are helpful and friendly. However, the person who cut my hair was not professional at all. I asked to stop straighting my hair but he completely ignored my request. I pointed out to him how my hair was uneven but he ignored that as well. He then parted my hair in the middle but I told him that I part my hair on the side, as it was before. He then, snapped at me and left.
The other hair dresser finished the job. He was good.
